I believe it is pronounce "chris"-knife, as in crystal. They are made from a tooth of Shai-Hulud (sandworm). That said, while what you produce may not be a traditional crysknife, I'm looking forward to seeing it

Phenomenal cinematography and editing in this one! Making damascus steel has been boring to watch for quite awhile, but this one is like a movie. I really appreciate that the songs used in this one sound like they came from the new Dune and the level of detail in editing to the chosen soundtrack. Kudos, Jamie!

Yes! Was about to say. This one was fire.
I did not realize how much I missed these videos until now. I love seeing you embark on knife or sword making projects Alec! I would love to see more content like this. Maybe it would be an idea to make more knives and swords inspired from movies and series? I’m thinking almost a “Binging with Babish” style of series. You have gone the route of historical blades, maybe fiction inspired blades next?
OK. Wow. Splendid project. Did Jamie direct this video? The shot of the power hammer from 12:18 to 12:34 was PHENOMENAL work. Music was great too, especially the first part - perfect for Dune. Good work, guys! This is the kind of videos I love to watch on your channel, I missed it!
Can we all appreciate that beautiful shot at 12:29? Masterful.

I think if Jamie was to throw tennis balls at Alec randomly, it could take it to a whole new level of entertainment. You could call it Balls of Steele.
Ok ok ok ok ok .....I am a machinist and at 7:32 when you discovered how to control the twist rate using air I lost my mind in the best way possible! Alec this is good stuff! I love the creative use of a lathe as I also primarily run lathes. Oh and I live in Montana just for some added giggle factor.
@Yossus

Can you offer an explanation of how it works? My intuition would be that the air would cool the piece down, and so it would twist less where blown, not more. Obviously it’s the opposite. But why?
I can’t believe you were able to forge weld that successfully! Bravo! (Also i know little to nothing about blacksmithing and machining so if it was actually easy, i am still impressed)

Alec makes it look way easier than it is.
I tell ya , Jamie is by far one of the best at making the steel forging look so cinematic and just freakin awesome. This is what we love to see, glad you made it home safe bud. I know you cant wait for a your extra tools and gadgets. Cant wait to see how this comes out. Idk the movie, but the photo looks like this will be fun to watch
You know it's going to be a long series when it's episodes and not parts
This is reminiscent of your old garage forging and playing with your Damascus patterns. Super awesome!
That bit with the dustpan at the lathe was the classiest stfu I've ever seen. _* chef's kiss *_ 😙👌
It feels like we are going back to the Alec Steel of my sub days. Awesome content man keep it up.
Weird question that probably won't get answered. Have you considered getting/making an induction forge for the shop Alec? I know it's unlikely, but it would let you forge more exotic materials like titanium and tungsten more easily.

FINALLY another 200 part project! Absolutely love these!!
I have to say....the cinematography has come a long way buddy. The editing with the slow mo...music choice. You could be talk about paper clips and we'd all be enthralled. Keep going. We love this
I miss the multi series builds like the claymore and the viking sword. Love seeing you inlay gold and go out of your comfort zone and always comes out amazing.
This reminds me of the old days of your channel. Really like the hands on and the little setbacks. That's what we damascus blacksmiths are always facing. Feather is always a challenge, looking forward to the next video!
As soon as the music started playing, right before the twisting, I thought for sure Alec was gonna muck something up. My anxiety was running wild in anticipation.
I love watching the mix of traditional style forging mixed with the more modern machining. I could watch those bars being twisted for hours.
I made a crysknife from stainless stock, used an elk antler for the handle, and hammered aluminum for the handle wrap. I used a 3d printed version I made as a 1:1 mode for sizing and shaping. Can't wait to see what amazing piece comes out of this series!
Finally we back to the old alec steel we like, very happy to see this series started

Hear, hear.
Might not be the safest way to twist the bars, but for sure it looks super cool(and time efficient)!
Can’t wait to see which way you stretch it! At first I was thinking you have to stretch the twists the entire length of the blade for the cool factor. But then I got to thinking about how much more awesome it would look to see the twists stretched the other way to create almost a mosaic blade. So after thinking of both I vote for mosaic, stretching the twists on the twisted axis and make a mosaic blade Alec, the spice demands it!
Alec what an unusual way to stack a billet, I appreciate you pushing the boundaries of what and which way you forged. As a massive frank Herbert fan , I am so looking forward to this build
Incredible job getting those bars forged 👏👏
I missed this style of video so much! Amazing as always!
Amazing video. Glad to see a knife build, return to the channel. I would love to see an other sword build.
A little tip for getting the alignment correct on your twisting jig would be to do the welding on the morse taper end in situ. Put the square tube in the chuck, put the taper in the stock, nudge the taper onto the end of the tube and then weld, remove tube from chuck and cut to length = perfect alignment and less distortion when twisting the hot stock
Can't wait to see the finished product.
Hey Alec, you should make a separate video just about the lathe, twisting technique. This will make an awesome educational video for us🙌
I really love those builds. I get why you love trying out new stuff (experiments or rebuilding tools, etc. in damascus)and it is really entertaining but once in a while I like to see those knife/ sword series.
i loved all the forging shots and cant wait to see the progress on the knife
That forgeweld is one of the most impressive things I've seen a blacksmith do. Thanks for the great content.
"Wills twisting machine has me green with envy." hahaha he has quite an assortment of cool tools. He's aquired. I gotta say i agree
That twisting method works an absolute treat. Nicely done 👍
"May thy knife chip and shatter!" (This is a quote from Dune, I hope the knife comes out well and _doesn't_ chip or shatter)
Glad to see you back to basics, not to dissuade your other projects, but it was refreshing to see you make a nice piece with a little banter and music+work
Really loved the music selection in this episode!
So nice to see you back making knives again!
Easily the best music choices for any video on the channel so far. Preferred it over the usual stuff quite a lot
This is a whole new level of production! Keep it up guys
Love everything about this video, absolute banger mates! Music, editing, filming, story and humor all on point!!!
It’s been a while since Alec done something that worked. Even Jamie couldn’t boss him around this time.
The editting and score is awesome as always.
Heat, beat, repeat! Let's make some doise! Love seeing blacksmithing projects back on the channel.
Love seeing the new shot angles! This knife will be interesting to follow.
Jamie is film-maker extraordinaire. Every episode just looks great
Now THIS is the Alec content I remember and LOVE
You know its an amazing day when Alec uploads!!!
Good to see you at the forge again Alec 😊😊❤
Felt like an old school video!! I loved it!! Make more Damascus weapons!!! I wanna see katana 2 baby!!
At last, a Smith making a Dune knife, been a fan of both Alex and Dune, read all the books, seen all the films, and followed Alex from almost his debut on here.
Awesome to see an increase in forging content.
Awesome looking forward to seeing the finished piece!
The music is fantastic in this video Jamie!
Glad to see you made it back to England safely. Hope all is well.
The lathe worked soooo well for the twisting. 👌👌👌
♥your twisted way of using a lathe
Turning the piece by to the side is such a cool and unique idea! I hope it works out!
Your “spaghetti linguini” possibility is something I’ve actually seen. I work on a LOT of dangerous machines and the lathe scares me the most.

That twist was hypnotic!
That has gotta be the craziest forge weld I've ever seen be successful! Can't wait for part 2!
Such a riddle of steel. Thank you so much.
The music was perfect on this one. Keep up the good work!
I realy missed you making those wonderful blades.
Fantastic episode, can't wait for part 2!
Amazing audio work to mimic the Dune soundtrack!
great idea with the lathe!!
I missed these really in depth videos. I love your videos so much and I’m so glad you are still making so much even though you may not be continuing everything as you move back to the UK
Glad to see you still stretching your abilities! Keep on cracking on!
This episode goes HARD! The music, the project itself, this is awesome!
Im happy to see the slowmo timing with the music edits back :)
man i've missed this type of content
great to see you making things again
Thank you for returning to your roots! 👍😎👍
I had an idea for a video that might be different from your usual pointy builds: Had you ever considered making a grill or grill guard for your truck out of Damascus? It would take a lot of material, but might be cool to work with patterned steel on a larger scale than a sword/knife. Plus you'd probably be the only person able to say you have a Damascus truck.
I remember seeing Alec repeatedly flip his billets under the power hammer in-between blows and it looked really cool. I haven't seen him do that in forever, why did he stop?
Loved the music, very industrial sound. Can't wait to see the finished blade. The lathe twist mod is cool! I may have to try it out when I get my lathe running!
excellent sound design on this episode!
One of my favorite creators making something from one of my favorite franchises!
Great music choices for a Dune themed knife! Someone is a fan.
10:36 Amazing trick there, Alec. Making a puppo appear from behind the paper. Houdini at work.
Wow usint the lathe to twist the damascus WAS AMAZING it worked SO WELL!!!!! I would love to see more aplication of this! also genius using the compressed air
Hey Alec, I wonder if you could discuss in one of your videos how you work with or engage with mistakes or failures during the creative process? As a fan and aspiring creative I'm always curious to learn how the more experienced manage their expectations and hopes when making.
I’m excited to see you are doing a multi part Damascus build again.
Very good twists man. Good job controlling the heat.
great video! it looked like more was done in one video which is a great format
I love how you did the twist with the air blower controlling the heat lol
This is a whole new level of production! Keep it up guys. Can we all appreciate that beautiful shot at 12:29? Masterful..
I wonder if Alec could make a slam-proof door, maybe even store some of the energy to assist in opening it. Like those drawers do.
pleeeeaaase let this be a 10 part serie :D
Every metalworking instructor ever: The lathe will try to kill you. Alec: Imma put red hot steel in there & see what happens.
Despite the tiny cracks, the way you forge welded that billet was bloody impressive!
