I've been geeking out on your segmented scale videos lately. I'm getting ready to do my first set for a chef knife for my mom. I think I've decided on (front to back) Bocote, stainless liner, black peal kirinite space, stainless liner, purple heart and it's terrifying! Watching these definitely is helping to calm the nerves a bit

I really like your instructionals man! Please take this following statement as a compliment because it is 💯 the reason I like your instructionals so much is because though (in my opinion) you are a very prolific knife maker you don't pretend to never make mistakes or edit them you actually highlight the same mistakes I'm making or would have made had I not watched one of your videos. I feel truly honored that you put out as much content as you do especially when monetarily speaking you don't make anything off of these yet you still need to make a living. Have you said my piece there I just wanted to comment that fully I agree with the medium starbond bond to Copper Brass even nickel silver I think it's better than two part epoxy I actually do a fair amount of work with Copper , and Brass I even make some of my own copper and brass mesh Raffir scales. I really enjoy making segmented scales as well. I agree with you that it isn't THAT hard of a process to make something that REALLY can elevate the end product. It gives your customs a more high end look and when done seamlessly can really blow people away. Idk if you've made any videos about pricing any of your customs but what are you going to ask for or what are you getting for the copper carbon camel fiber knife that you're making in this video because I do stuff very similar and I feel like I'm just underpricing them way underpricing what I'm doing and putting out because I'm just a no-name but I do really good work at least that's what I've been told... I am however my own worst critic so ya know I try to take that for what it is . Ive made less than a dozen knives on the two years I've been doing this how good can they really be? Thanks in advance for reading this and hopefully responding!

I really appreciate the positive feedback! And there’s a few people now that agree with using CA over epoxy so that’s cool to Hear! As far as pricing goes you have to charge enough so you’re happy to go in the shop every Day! That’s what it’s all about .

Love the video those things turned out awesome 👍 unfortunately I am about to start selling knives after I swore i would never sell knives. This is a very expensive hobby because im not happy unless I make high quality blades. I've made 3 to sell so far but they turned out so nice i decided to keep them. I got a pretty good feeling im not going to be very good at selling knives 😂

I made 4 sets of scales with silver nickel and it was a nightmare with epoxy. The blade pro is amazing but any heat just delaminated it like nothing. I called starbond and they recommended the starbond medium flex and it’s absolutely amazing. It’s twice as impact resistant vs the normal starbond medium. It’s their sb-keg-500 to be specific that’s what they recommended for this application.

I'll have to give the CA glue a try. I'm gonna be doing some brass liners in a set soon here and the last time I used brass the heat build up wrecked the epoxy like you mentioned. It's definitely worth the trouble though. It might just be chimp brain talking, but shiny lines just look soooo good in a handle. Lol.

Awesome info, thank you for sharing..................The one thing I struggle with the most especially with copper,is the copper liner and drilling through it. Sometime if I dont have enough support under the scale while drilling the pin holes it deforms and pops right off the scale, even with a super fresh drill bit. Ive learnt to use a sacrificial bit of flat mild steel under the scale while drilling the holes to support the soft copper

I’ve been making a few knives as a hobby for a few years. Last knife I made was a big hit with a lot of people I’ve been showing it to. Now the demand has put me into a spot to start selling. My question to you is; how did you deal with selling knives with minor imperfections, grind lines being off a hair? I work out of my garage, pretty primitive.
