Harley Bentons are cheap, personally I'd probably put in IronGear if on a budget as those EMGs cost as much as the guitar in some countries but you can't expect HB to have EMGs, Dimarzios or Duncans, I mean even Jacksons and Ibanezs that are much more expensive have shit ceramic stock pickups (look at the cheaper Adrian Smith model).

yeah-no 90% of electronics are fed by some kind of plug 😂 There are a lot of solderless brands out there already. @@Wargasm644 that's true but more than 90% of electronics are used in a digital implementation and the quality of the connection is a lot less consequential in a digital design. @@yeah-no1353 - sub-par connection is a bit of an overstatement-short of an extremely sensitive equipment that can measure in picocoulombs (continuous flow is more important than point-of-contact resistance) there is no way one could perceive a difference between soldered and good solderless solution (i.e. tight/crimped connection via de-oxidized or gold/platinum-coated ports) no matter of the amplification/feedback loop. I could understand why would someone prefer soldered connections in super-cheap equipment as crappy soldering is still marginally better than crappy connectors, but it boggles the mind why are people accepting, or even preferring soldered connections on $300+ guitars.

In 25 years of building custom guitars and basses I've worked with a lot of pickups, electronics, components, and with that, a lot of companies of all sizes. When it comes to the electronics, say what you want about EMG pickups, the solder-less wiring, pots, connectors, I've used them on many different pickups, for years, and never had a single failure of any kind. When it comes to customer service, I've never dealt with anyone better, more helpful, or more responsive (Acoustica, who make MixCraft DAW software is on thid level). I have had a EMG technical support help me install pickups from other companies onto their wiring sets, their pots their Electronics they preamp, and they were fantastic, and they were definitely more helpful than the people who built the pickups I was installing. Most of the time would just say, "just use our wiring and be done with it," and then they would end the call. That's not what my customer wanted, and I, as your customer, that's not what I want. EMG would listen every time and help every time. As for the pickups, they make dozens of different pickups and pickup sets, and only the 81/85 set sounds like the 81/85 set. That set is used on 16 of the top 25 metal albums of all time, and are still used more than you think. I've tried quite a few of the other sets/pickups, and never been disappointed, and never had anyone ask me to replace them on a custom build, except builds that were over seven years old and the owners were just ready for a change.. That's guitar pickups. I think the bass pickups are even better, on average, than the guitar stuff. I am a professional now, and I didn't facepalm and move on. Playing a guitar, or any instruments, really, is about fun, about being yourself, about listening to the voice inside, doing what feels right, playing what you hear in your head, feel in your heart, letting the river of energy flow. So, if this is what you felt inside, kid, and this is what felt right for you to do, then I am proud of you for doing it, being honest with yourself and putting it out there. Fuck the mamby pamby pussies afraid to be themselves, and fuck the doubters, the detractors, and the trolls.

Thank you! Someone else who understands why I only use EMG (and DiMarzio, Lolar, and Gibson) pickups. I’ve used Fishman and gotten bad jacks as well as pots and customer service. Never a fault with EMG. The only other active pickup I’ve liked more, was a IBZ/DMZ stock pickup in an Ibanez. A close second is the Seymour Duncan SEVEN. But EMG has got the package. Reliability, quality, service, and tone.

The EMGs sound ever so slightly fuller and controlled out of the mix but if anything I'd reckon that might have as much to do with the change of pots as it did the pickups if not more so. Or I could just be talking out of my ass, but who knows. It's all opinion.

Top tip for cable management - do your guitar modding in the middle of the day rather than the middle of the night. You are far more likely to do a good job if you are not wishing for sleep. As for protecting the sharpie marks, you are better off spraying the guitar applying the liquid to a paper towel and using that to cover an area ralatively smoothly rather than leaving an obvious ridge line as displayed in the video.

So i have an idea , no idea if you would see it , but i think if you made a video or videos on how you come up with riffs , or just teaching your riffs , it would do really well , I definitely think your riff writing skills are top notch... why you dont have a solo album or EP yet is beyond me!

If you look at the video of James's new guitar - Carl - made from the bits of the garage from their old house on Carlson Blvd in El Cerrito, you'll see he has two batteries installed. It could be that he's using them wired in parallel for longer life or in series for more attack/percussive pick sound at 18V rather than 9V. The output really doesn't change that much but the sound dynamic of an 18V system is much more instantaneous and dynamic. If you don't want to go buy a router and hack the guitar up, get an EMG battery box and run a stereo cable from the guitar to the battery box and then a regular cable from the battery box on towards and pedals/effects processors and your amp. You'll need to install the little battery blank inside the guitar or chop and solder the battery connector if you're not using the blank.

I'm a collision repair tech. Freaken bodyman for short. In 1989 Lita Ford opened for Motley Crue on the Dr Feelgood tour. I had her sign the back of the headstock on an N.J. series Warlock, Arrest Me Red just like hers. Anyways I scuffed around it with a gray scotch Brite pad and used automotive clear coat and it's still there to this day.

  • @IndependenceGuitar

MC Brodz well that’s if you buy them one by one. That is the retail price. There are companies like Mitchell who make inexpensive guitars and do use them on all models. As they buy them in bulk, they’re much cheaper. And if your talking about a few dollars per guitar over 2000 guitars, so that your brand will have better quality, and that it costs just as much in labor to fabricate a plastic one, there is absolutely no reason. I actually own a Mitchell ms400. Damn good guitar for what i paid.
