Makhtoum Abdalla: Education is a fundamental right for every child | TED

Ғылым және технология

For children growing up in refugee camps, education is a powerful tool of liberation. In this inspiring talk, Makhtoum Abdalla, displaced as a child in Sudan and now living with his family in the Otash camp in Darfur, shares his biggest dream: to ensure all children are educated and taught the skills needed to become "captains of their destiny."

Education is and always has been fundamental, a means of guiding and informing us on how to go about life, how to navigate the complexities of living in a vast world of uncertainty. Education means communication, collaboration, self-realization, opportunity. How can we give rise to our global community without a knowing of the infinite intersections that make up our shared universe? Education is a right to life, a right to love, a right to be a sovereign being in an ever-changing, ever-significant world.

Education is a society's foundation to "empower" it's people. Modern societies know this but struggle with equity with access and opportunity beyond being empowered. Why this matters: within countries with great prosperity (an inconvenient truth)..."the value of your wealth is locked up within the quality of life of your neighborhood." - Aaron A. Wilson Empowerment is the foundation of society...it levels up culture, prosperity, security, and ones own stewardship with the world...making it a better partner, ally, neighbor, and steward to our world.

How absurd that the right to life, the notion of survival is not a given. Food, shelter, safety/security, education, none of which are cemented in the global wellbeing. This is universal. We can come together in pursuit of these inextricable facets of life and being.
