I’ve been trying to find part 2 for days Lol 😂 I’m about to make my first etch now. Sadly I’ve tried this 10 times but certain things were alittle different, should work this time haha 😂 🤞 thanks man!!
A great big thanks for posting this Erick! My shop will be finished soon ( a recent basement flood has pushed me out a few weeks) and I've been looking for a nice concise video on charger etching. This is it. You rock!

@@theriversexperience9383 Thank you sir!
If you can find a desktop power supply that is AC /DC you can get a darker etch. DC will etch the design AC will mark it black. I picked one up from marketplace for £10
Some of the newer "smart" battery chargers won't work, there is a safety for shorting built in. I just picked up an old used charger for 5 bucks on ebay to try now. So far I use stencils in vinyl I cut with a old cricut I hacked to load my own designs, and acid etch with ferric acid, and results are good, but i see a few pros of being able to electro etch, so about to try my first electro etch now.
Beautiful thank you for the video. I've spent $120+ on stencils and metal blocks and other hoops. I like the box idea I've used charges for ATVs and other riged things. That is the same solution I use. I have been using a 12v battery w/ felt wrapped steel block. But I will give this a go.
The ammo can setup is a nice touch.
Great ideas Eric thank you.
Cheers! Skol!
Great! Thank you!
Thanks for the excelent advice!
Thank you for sharing this video I’ve been wondering how they use them
Hardest thing for me is finding someone to make affordable decals. Also, all new battery chargers seem to have an auto shut off, making them useless for this. What I've been doing is coat the blade with nail polish, scratch/draw my mark, the I use an actual car battery (while still in my truck, I turn the engine on, hook up jumpers, then smaller alligator clip cables to the jumper cables) then use cotton Q-tips with salt water. ...it ain't ideal, but it works.

That's a lot of power! I'm sure it etches really deep! I would be a little nervous using that much juice.

@@ChristopherSalisburySalz Just don't stick your tongue on the cables. 😋 ..kidding! I'd definitely prefer if I could find a cheap charger that worked, but this is what I've got for now.

@@theriversexperience9383Thanks to you! learnt a lot from you.
What brand of vinyl do you use for the stencil and does it need to be heat resistant?
@theriversexperience9383
Жыл бұрын
It's just a translucent vinyl that's meant for etching, you can get it from Amazon. Vinyl is pretty heat resistant by itself and should be fine for the little bit of heat that comes from the etching process.
Are there other ways if you don't have a cricket to make the actual logo part? ✌️

You can coat the area you want to etch with paint or fingernail polish, then scratch/draw your mark in. Etch, then clean off the paint with acetone or paint remover.

Yup, this is what I use to do. fingernail and a pencil is what I used, just make sure to let the fingernail polish dry for a minute so that its easier to make the mark.

There's got to be a lady in your neighborhood with a cricket. If you're married ask your wife to put a request on Facebook. Or you could buy vinyl and cut the mark out freehand if it's not too complex. The vinyl stencils can be used several times.

Thanks for the feedback everyone 👍
I found a battery charger at a flea market for 6$. I was looking for an old one to avoid the "automatic" feature (whatever that is). Apparently, this type of charger won't work for etching for some reason. I don't know if this is true or not, but figured since I heard it on the internet it must be true ;)
I read that the new battery chargers don’t work.
What is a cricket.

A vinyl sheet cutter that cuts out designs you make on the computer. Almost like a printer. People use them to make signs and tshirts.
What is a cricket? Down here in Australia it is a sport, not something our wife would own....

Do you need to use a specific type of vinyl for the stencil?
Why did you switch to the battery charger? Did the old AC adaptor not work as well?

@@theriversexperience9383 I just need to find a non-automatic charger if there is such a thing anymore. They also sell DC power supplies that would work well for a DC etch which is the most important part I think.

@@ChristopherSalisburySalz Harbor Freight has a manual style charger for 54.99. Old computer power supplies work also but they are low amp and etch slow.
