    Hey Mr.Buck, im calling you that since I was one of your students in Contemporary Media in 2020 when the pandemic hit, I wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You helped me out so much and I can’t thank you enough for it. I’m graduating on may 29th and I couldn’t have done it without your help. Thank you Mr. Buck. I miss you and wish you the best. Love you man

    Oh my gosh this is awesome! I’m so happy for you! I hope your high school experience was a great one, even with the craziness of the pandemic. I wish we could’ve had the full “Impact experience” without it being cut a bit short. I think I’ll always be a bit bummed about that. Either way, thank you for checking thinking of me and keeping me updated, and all the best as you step into this next chapter!

  • @45KevinR
    @45KevinR15 күн бұрын

    Even at the show this setup reminded me of a chunky cordless drill. On the good brands the battery and gearbox kind of balance each other and give you quite good balance and handling despite the weight. On that vein a 3d printed small cage around the transmitter to create a foot, perhaps modelled on a makita battery, might give you a base/stand for putting the microphone down.

  • @tombuck

    One thing I can’t wrap my head around is how creators do this with typically-mounted mics (the Yeti comes to mind) and I can’t hear ANY handling noise or resonance no matter how much they jostle. Whereas if I try it it’s an absolute cacophony of vibrations and handling noise. Is it just me? Are folks just running noise filters in post?

    With the Sona's XLR placement, the transmitter won't directly connect. So what you could do is use a small XLR patch cable and then find a way to attach the transmitter to the side of the mic or its yoke. That actually sounds kind of fun...

    I am looking for a cheaper solution on the wireless XLR option as I would be curious what this would look like on an MV7. Shouldn't need a Cloudlifter type device.

  • @tombuck

    Someone might have a better solution, but as far as I know, wireless XLR is a bit pricey because it's typically part of a UHF system. This ends up being better in the long run because those systems tend to last forever, but the upfront cost is higher. I think there might be cheaper XLR transmitters, but you might run into issues with reliability/complexity. In this case, as goofy as this idea is, I wanted it to be rock solid reliable.

    Really? I've had no issues with patch cables and regular XLR cables, but the transmitter was definitely a no-go.

    That's a fun idea, but I'm wondering, doesn't the transmitter have adjustable gain? I know the beltpacks have enough gain to not need an extra booster.

  • @tombuck

    @tombuck

    15 күн бұрын

    They do, but with the SM7B specifically, there's just SO MUCH gain required that maxing out most transmitters either doesn't hit the mark, or isn't super clean. Plus in this case, the booster becomes part of the handle, so it works out.

    I wonder if the SM7dB would work well in this situation? Also, you *do* realize that pretty soon you'll be able to lobby the Pantone folks for a specific color called "Buck Blue". ;)

    I guess why you wouldnt want to do this is because of the suuuper strong proximity effect... 1:24 your voice gets extremely phasey when you go off mic even a little bit with it right in front of you. It has great rejection (it's an SM7b so of course it will) but when you're doing interviews with a hand mic, you're not monitoring things like proximity effect or weird roll-offs if your mic drifts off-subject because you're focusing on other things. It's fun though, looks like a power drill lol and this shit is way cooler and more interesting than the wannabe iPhone video influencers doing stupid flips and shit to try and get the attention of a brand lol

    Unfortunetely I guess you didnt see my comment in the previous video.... this could/should had been addressed on this video, and you missed it .... I came across a video where the guy uses a Xvive P1 to power the boom mic, and he uses a Rode Go mic to transmit wireless. (kzread.info/dash/bejne/eIB6wa1mdqXgdMo.html) Considering I already have the Rode Go II, the Xvive P1 costs only $50 !!!! (compared to $907 I would spend with the setup you have on this video. (price including lithium battery and charger)). So... my question is.... Sound quality .... will the Shure SLXD3 give a better sound quality than the Rode , since we're technically using the same microphone? In other words, will the transmitter itself reduce the sound quality? I understand the UHF system is more reliable, but price wise .... is it worth to go up $907, instead of $50?
