Make Portable Cooling Misters - No Hose Needed to Beat the Heat

Make your own portable, personal mister for a cool & constant spray of water to beat the heat. See how to this version of the patio mister for a personal use size plus several options to Dial it in for your needs. This is meant for a 1 person cooling effect. The whole effect of a mister system takes advantage of a process called evaporative cooling; moisture exposed to air flow creates a cooling effect. This video builds on a previous project where I made two versions that connect to a hose for constant water flow. The benefit of the current project is that it is portable and does not require a hose, motor or power (i.e. plug or battery). This means it is perfect for a backpack, patio / beach chair, shade umbrella, picnic table or anywhere you need some cooled, moist air!

Key Materials:
- Brass mister nozzle (I got 20 on Amazon for just over $10 total)
- empty, clean 2 liter bottle
- cheap air pump (picked mine up for $1 at a discount store)
- 1/4" drip irrigation tubing (roughly 4 feet)
- 3/16" brass hose barbs - aka splicer (X2)
- 1/4" clear vinyl tubing (roughly 2 feet)
- zip ties
- Optional: in line on / off valve (used with drip irrigation tubing)
- Optional: velcro to attach pump to bottle for easy access and storage
WARNING: only fill bottle 2/3 full of water. Only pump to the pressure needed to make the mister system work. Over pressurizing a bottle such as this could result in a potentially dangerous rupture.

Very cool. I was thinking, if I use a wide mouth bottle, I could even get some ice in there for those times when there's no respite from the heat. Personal, portable AC unit!

I buy the .03mm orifice brass nozzles from Amazon. I use them with my 2 gallon Harbor Freight sprayer. I rigged a home misting system using PVC pipe. Tapped and drilled the nozzle screw in holes, attached the water hose to the adapters, and viola, very fine mist. The more pressure the finer the mist,of course. Make sure you clamp the hoses down tight. The water pressure likes to push out the hoses from the adapters. Notes: - I sanded down a small area on PVC pipe using a circular sander equipment. Makes for a better seal. - I placed a piece of panty hose over the intake tube adapter. Helps keep out debris. - I have hard water where I live so I remove the nozzles when I will not be using the mister system for a few days. - Buy extra nozzles, they can clog easily, especially if you detach and reattach your hose. Dirt will get into the system.

I’m doing same thing but with a 5v fan and instead of a air pump I’m using a 9v fish tank air pump paired with a momentary push switch 😂
I work on a forklift in 100°+ weather and I am thinking about taking a Scott's (pesticide) pump (new of course) and hooking up a misting hose to it and surround my forklift with the string of misters! Your thoughts?? Great video!

Not only do I think it is a great idea but I also know it will work! Great minds think alike. When I made this video I did it as a pre-test to bigger things including a clean weed sprayer. I have tried it and it works great!! My plan is to make a video for it as Summer gets closer. Note: I built it into a new hose but I think it would work well at the end of the regular hose too. Also, I think you can add more than one nozzle on a single pump bottle.

Awesome idea with the electric pump!!! I definitely want to try that! Is your spray bottle made with the electric pump or are you adding that on as an extra?
