I love those T-rex costumes! I think one of the best instances I saw of them (the T-rex suit) was a trio of them running around with pizza boxes and the TMNT eye masks. They even had the knee/elbow pads, sheaths for their weapons, and one of them even had a sign saying they were looking for Mikey and that he was "lost" It was fantastic XD

To dirty it up, I'd make some 'mud' to dip the edges in; water, tea, crushed coals and ash from a fire, maybe some saw dust from the shop. Can use pretty much anything, but the water helps it really soak in, especially after ratting up the edges like you did.

Actually something I have been meaning to share, and related to creepy costumes. Surgical gloves work great as a base to do really creepy hands. Just put one on and use liquid latex and fiber. Cotton is pretty common and it gives a burnt flesh kind of texture but tissue(read Kleenex) works really well and gives a wrinkly skin texture. You can pain if you like but I have used food color to color the latex and that can give you a really good translucent "real" look. Some tinted with a bit of blue lets you create veins. Cover that with some "skin tone" ish latex and you can get some really "old" hands. Crepe hair will also stick really well in the latex when it's wet. A hair drier will speed up the cure a LOT. Usually there is enough stretch that you can take the clove off but worst case you can slice it up the wrist till you can get it off. I almost never have had to cut it to get it off. It's reusable for a couple of years, then the latex starts to get dried out. This also works really well for building up "flesh" on skeletons, though then I start with coton to build up "muscles" etc. and then use tissue as a final "skin" layer (or not...).

The Ringwraith hood is actually a separate piece and drapes down to about the waist. Also stippling the bondo on the blade and lightly sanding is back will give you a better corroded metal texture.

Ah, the leg-hose.. something I get asked about when in my flight suit. It is officially the "Pee Hose" and was linked to an adult diaper and a 'reservoir' for the cases where a Ghostbuster gets scared, or on long jobs when they can't make it to the washroom. Like the ones Astronauts use during a space walk. Most of us just have it clipped to the back of the belt on a fob and removable for when we have to wash the flight suits.

Interesting. For theatre sets we use contact cement. There is a cup thing with fan blades and you stick it in a drill. The cup has a loose seal and you fill it up with contact cement (or rubber cement) and spin away. The glue leaks out of the loose seal and the wind from the fan blades blows the "web" out and on to things. It pretty much dries enroute so you can make big webs really hast. More fragile than the hot glue I'm sure.

One costume over here in Vienna, Austria that always makes me laugh is this one guy that's dressed like a tube of mustard. You can see him at almost every con and he's hilarious!! He even wears a hat that looks like the screw cap and when you ask him for a photo, he poses like he's trying to screw the cap open.

For all my broke cosplayers, I’ve found two amazing ways to make props. A cardboard cutout covered in great stuff and carved to shape works great (just make sure you have enough foam to cover both side of the cardboard because great stuff shrinks a bit when it fully cures and can warp the cardboard if there’s not foam on both sides) Also for my Hellboy costume I’m trying to make ive found cheap yoga rollers for only $5 at Dollar General, and they should work perfect for making his Right Hand of Doom that I’m hoping to articulate as well. I’ve also heard wood glue mixed with water can be a decent sealer for foam, but I haven’t tried it out myself yet

This year I made a metal robot arm out of the aluminium from soda cans. I lined all the plates with 2mm black craft foam for extra definition. The only downside to this is that you have to drink a shit ton of soda to get all the material.
