    Easter in Australia is at our Autumn (Fall). This Easter we will probably have fish & veggies on Good Friday for Dinner and a roast lamb with cheesy potato bake, roasted green beans and dinner rolls on Easter Sunday for Dinner. Hot chocolate, tea and or coffee with carrot cake and or some mini chocolate Easter eggs for dessert! God Bless from Australia xxx

    We went on vacation so I am binge watching all my channels. Love your videos and shared you with my nephew. He does the cooking as his girlfriend "doesn't cook". Thank you! P.S. Cabbage was 89 cents in my store today. I am making Egg Roll in a Bowl tomorrow! LOL! My husband just came in and said "Those are the Canadian Chicks."

    I'll give you the recipe. Here: Christie's Ham Sauce (which was actually my Auntie Dorothy's Ham Sauce that we've been eating since 1989!) 1/3 cup sugar 2 Tbsp. Dry mustard 2 eggs 1/2 cup vinegar 1/4 cup butter In a double boiler, mix sugar and dry mustard together. Add eggs and beat with electric mixer or whisk. Add vinegar and butter. Cook low and slow in a double boiler. It keeps fairly well in the fridge but like I was telling Sharla, I have no idea how it will freeze. But I'm going to try it and I'll find out!

    I have had a lot of different baked Hams in my life, with glaze/without, with Gravy/without, but I have never heard of Ham Sauce. Interesting. And the only time I've ever had mustard on Ham is in a sandwich. I love sandwiches with left over honey glazed Ham. So...I don't know, I'd probably like Christie's Ham Sauce? Anyway- It's always great to get ahead on baking, cooking and prepping for any big meal. Thanks ladies for the helpful tips!

    I have not eaten creamed corn since I worked in a canning factory we made the creamed corn, just let me say making your own is only way to go. Some of the bugs and stuff that is allowable extra protein is just off putting, I will be doing the recipe you said sounds nice. With frozen corn maybe when corn is in again I’ll be freezing a bunch ahead with fresh corn. Thanks for the ideas as for the potatoes I hated doing them too so I bought the kitchen aid attachment that peels them before that I had a little potato peeler that plugged in, I have Arthritis in both my hands so those jobs were just to hard now anyway. We are having turkey and ham because some like one or the other but not both picky ppl in my family lol

    There is a KitchenAid attachment for peeling potatoes?! They have everything! 😅 I love that it saves your hands. I agree about the creamed corn. I think when it's canned, it's just crushed corn and there are no milk products whatsoever. I didn't really think about the bugs. Lol. It's a nice treat to have creamed corn like that his recipe. It's really delicious. Happy Easter 🐰

    We're doing sliders for the main on Easter but the mashed taters will make potatoe salad a breeze and I'm thinking the corn and carrots will definitely make an appearance for some of the sides! I will have to make an addition to the cream corn of lime juice because it will taste a lot like Mexican street corn that way. I just really love watching y'all and now I'm of to find the slider video you made for my ingredients!!! Oh, I'm a member of the club but I want to watch b4 I start assembly this time lol.

    I have been binge watching your videos and love them. I just wanted to ask if you reuse the freezer bags?

  • @FreezerMeals101

    @FreezerMeals101

    4 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately we don't. If they have had raw meat in them, I don't trust that I could get it clean enough to safely reuse. The other thing is that because they end up being in our freezer for awhile, they sometimes get banged up, so with holes and such, we can't. We have tried silicone bags in the paste. They can be difficult to clean but some people have good luck washing them in the top rack of the dishwasher. They seem to be prohibitively expensive and their "gallon" size never seems to fit as much as the ziploc gallon sized bag, so until prices come down and they are a little more user-friendly, we will have to continue with the plastic :(

    I'm not a huge fan of Easter dinner. My mom always fixes it and usually I bring sugar-free finger jello for my diabetic kiddo. But this year Mom is on a cruise over Easter. My husband likes the traditional food. We are picking up a ham from Honeybaked next week. Had a gift card for 2 years from my old job I hadn't used. They used to give us every year at Christmas and Honeybaked would have a Kiosk around Christmas open in the mall. This year they did not. We are driving about 20 miles to the nearest location, but since it's less than $5 out of our pocket, it's worth it. We're doing frozen scalloped potatoes and I'll make another veg and rolls are store bought. I'm about keeping it simple, especially since it's just my little family of 5.

    @@FreezerMeals101 I know I was not clear. The frozen scalloped potatoes we will have on Easter will be from the freezer section of the grocery store. I am keeping this as no fuss as possible! The hardest thing I will need to do is peel my carrots, unless I have some maple dill carrots hiding in the freezer. That being said, I have made scalloped potatoes once before for the freezer. I can't recall the exact time/heat, but the recipe and notes I found suggested that you partially bake before freezing. I feel like maybe I did them for 45 minutes and then the day we cooked them after thawing, they were cooked through the rest of the way.

    I just baked off my leg of lamb, made the grave, and now I'm going to freeze lamb slices with gravy. I'll take it out on Friday night and let it unthaw in the refrigerator until Sunday afternoon. I'll reheat it just before I leave the house for 1hour at 350 .

  • @lonejensen5798
    @lonejensen57984 ай бұрын

    I have a general question - sorry for putting it in here during Easter, but I've seen a lot of your videos and just chose the newest one :-) You often use canned soup as part of a dish. I'm from Scandinavia and we rarely use that. I myself have never bought canned soup in my entire life. Maybe because of the price, at least 4 dollars for a small can. But you seem to use it as a kind of base sauce, something that thickens with flavor. If we in my country don't want to make sauce/soup from scratch, we have powder, e.g. from Knorr, where we add butter and milk ourselves. It's probably no better than the canned ones. We also have frozen soup as fastfood. But I haven't heard of anyone using it as a base for other food in the same way you do. You seem to be really good at cooking in general, so while I'm no saint when it comes to using convenience foods, why? Isn't it easier, cheaper and healthier just to make it from scratch and avoid the can? It is not criticism, but a reflection on cultural differences between countries.

  • @FreezerMeals101

    @FreezerMeals101

    Hi! Thank you for watching from so far away! The reason we use it is because a) it is easier but b) here it is much MUCH cheaper. Up until a few years ago when groceries really shot up, you could buy a case of 12 soup cans for $5. We tend to have a lot of storage in North America, and most people drive, so it's very common to buy bulk items for cheaper. Another reason canned soups are used is because they are condensed. So they have a thick texture and lots of flavour. Gravies made from scratch can separate or go mealy upon thawing but soup gravy is stalwart! Haha! Unfortunately they tend to have a lot of salt so they aren't great for keeping your sodium down. That is probably the biggest drawback of using soup in a recipe. Growing up, many households would be familiar with having canned soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and because the soup was so readily available, inexpensive, and you could keep it on hand, it made its way into being a staple in American cooking and by default, Canadian cooking. We have knorr soups as well, and yes they absolutely could be used as base flavour. I have a really great spinach dip recipe that calls for Knorr Cream of Leek soup but that is about the most I've ever used it. We do have many recipes that are "soupless" and we create our own flavour profiles using spices and sauces but we definitely also have many recipes with soup because it's just part of the cooking culture here and it appeals to North Americans. I hope that answers your questions. You'll continue to see soups used in recipes but we're also on the search for more recipes that don't use any, and we create the flavour and texture ourselves. Thanks so much for your comments and questions! ♥️

    As luck would have it we did a Mega Session literally before the initial lockdown! We felt so relieved that if the world completely fell apart, we would at least be fed! I don't know where you're from but here, for socializing, we were allowed "cohort families" so our families were cohorts and we were able to do our next one without much trouble. Plus it was our job, so we just had to do it. 🤷‍♀️ After that, the restrictions relaxed and it wasn't even a question. You would laugh to know that we had a zoom beach party for our families. We decorated fish and hung them up in our living rooms, and we brought in our lawn chairs and dressed in beachwear and literally had a zoom beach party! Oh the weird things we did during covid. Haha!
