Turning A Fish Tank Into A Terrarium
Old fishtanks often make great terrariums because they're clear, made of glass, sturdy and often come with a light fitting. It's one of the easiest ways to get started with terrarium making and in this video I'll show you just how easy it is to plant one. Thank you to Plantamamita for allowing me to film in her space while my workshop is being repaired.

What I like about the hobby is it is very accessible. Technically, at it's most basic, you just need a jar, some dirt, and a plant or two (and moss!). Chances for success and aesthetic quality increase as you invest into it, but at its basis, very accessible.
I used make terrariums back in the day. When I brought my first one home and put it in the living room bay window she said I this will never take off as a hobby. By the time I moved out the whole window was covered. She was sad about that and I had to leave her a couple. Here it is 35+ years later and I’m thinking about starting up again. Thanx for sharing.

I made my first terrarium!! Your videos definitely helped me gain the confidence I needed! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences:) Cheers!
This is fascinating! I got gifted a 3 gallon and 15 gallon tall aquariums, then remembered how much trouble aquariums are, so they have been sitting empty for a year. I now know what to do with them AND have a new hobby as well! Thank you so much for this easy tutorial! You have made my day all the way from Florida, USA!
I've been making terrariums for many years. I've always loved plants but living in a city a few years ago, made it very difficult to be able to get my hands in the dirt. So I found that creating terrariums gave me my Green Thumb Therapy. Without it, I'm not a happy camper! I have a terrarium, that is that shape but it has a door on it. I have plans on redoing it as it's gotten a bit overgrown as it's around 4 years old. Even though I know a lot about building these little worlds,I plan on buying your book to see your perspective on this art. Plus, you've had an amazing journey!
I’d like to see you do a paludarium style, but enjoy your builds and I’m getting a lot of inspiration! Cheers!!

I used to stan SerpaDesigns a lot, but this guy is definitely dividing my attention haha. Both are great content creators, would love to see a collab one day.
Thank You
That soil is good stuff! Would also be good for pollutant adsorption with the zeolite and activated charcoal.
This is great! Shows more of your personality and overall better editing
Good vibes!
love your videos im so inspired to try the same :D thnx!
Just made my first Terrarium😊
i love your channel so much!!!!!!!!!!!
Eu gosto muito dos seus vídeos, eles são muito bons. Por favor coloque legendas em português. Muito Obrigado. Google translation:" I really like your videos, they are very good. Please put subtitles in Portuguese. Thank you."
I see this terrarium is over a year old. Could you please post a video on the terrarium's growth.
I love your videos and my knowledge to start my first terrarium is growing and I'm excited to dive in. I can tell you're a bonsai nerd as well, like myself, have you considered a bonsai channel?
awesome!
I love your channel, its a shame its not more popular, I feel like the only thing holding you back is the fact that your terrariums only ever include invertebrates for fauna, I think if you did some terrariums with maybe micro geckos or frogs or something it would bring a lot more attention than just plants with a clean up crew.

I personally love the dedication and detail he adds when creating these videos focusing more on the plants/ inverts. there are so many channels already covering tons of reptile/ amphibian care. Most of these channels when discussing creating/ decorating the terrarium dont stop to talk about all of the fine details like this. If anything i'll be taking what I learn from this channel and expanding on it once i go from Isopods to my first reptile!

How timely that this video came up today! I was going through your videos yesterday trying to find some info on whether springtails can escape a terrarium. I have just set one up in a small fish tank which has a gap of about 1.5 cm at the top where they could get past the glass lid. I live in the tropics in Australia and I'm not sure whether I should catch springtails for the terrarium, as they could escape and populate my house! 😁
@Blue_cheese.

They most likely won’t escape and if they do they’ll die due to the lack of humidity

I've turned a 2ft n a 3ft n a cube tank from a aquarium to a terrarium
Love your videos. I always wanted to do a terreriam like that
Where do you source your plants/moss and also your materials (soil,gravel,lavarock etc etc) from
I see that the video is over a year old, can you post an update on this terrarium's growth?
That room at the beginning looks like so much bong smoke gets blown through it.
Is it necessary to put fungus and insects. What happens if we don't put it on.?
We’re do you get garlic snails
Do you have a reliable stockest for the spring tails?
can you do a multi mushroom terraniums? with maybe some type of animal? please.

I have a fire bellied toad vivarium that has sprouted some small beige mushrooms, they are such a nice little detail. They showed up after I added a piece of wood that had been in a previous tank.
Can you link to that aquarium tank you have used?
Do you have any tips for remedying a terrarium that was watered with regular tap? Browning moss, I hope it doesn't die!
@greenjars_
Жыл бұрын
Put all the tapwater youre gonna use in an open container and leave them for around 24/48 hours, which will help remove chlorines
@AGoodBean
Жыл бұрын
You can adsorb chlorines with more activated charcoal.
I thought terrariums were supposed to be mostly sealed? I need to know for my own terrarium lol. Also this will need grow lights, right?
Hi, love your videos! I am wondering why you didn't add a charcoal layer to this one.

hi, what brand is that fishtank? im in australia and i like the shape of that one..
niiice, maybe someone knows where to get this aqarium?? would be so nice
How often do you have to water it?
A Terquarium!
Is there a list of how much it would cost to start the hobby ? Is it in ur book ?
this just got pinged to me on the discord server lol
I wanna make one of these with a nano tank
What other insects can you put in to terrariums that will help the plants and soil?
Do you sell these? I would be very interested in buy one…
50k!!!!!!!
FYI - At approximately 0:39 seconds, ficus pumila is mislabeled as nephrolepis.
