Make a Table Saw Fence Alignment Jig for Checking Fence Alignment - Woodworking Table Saw Jig

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In the woodworking tutorial I show you how to make Table Saw Jig for checking the alignment of the your table saw fence.
All woodworking tools need to be carefully set and aligned, especially the more often used machines like table saws, which is the reason I made this alignment checking jig to quickly and easily check the fence on my table saw.
This is easy DIY woodworking jig to build and will help keep your cuts clean and straight on all your future woodwork projects.

Nice jig. I think I would make one sized to check the blade alignment and then when it's turned around in the miter slot, it can check the fence as well.

My tracks are not necessarily parallel to my blade. So I touch the blade with the fence and make sure it contacts the teeth at the front and back at full extension. Alternatively I mount my dial indicator to a magnetic base and slide that along the fence with the dial indicator probing the saw.

Colin, you can attach a piece of MDF to the miter gauge to get a face square to the fence.

Great tip! I'll get right on this. No reason not to go ahead and use the same jig to test the blade to the miter slots even though it is unlikely... The toold makes it easy.

Great video again, Colin. Thanks for sharing. There are many roads leading to Rome (and to Ottawa also, I suppose). That measuring gauge looks awesome. I should try to get one, some day. For your happiness, your fence was well aligned. But for us, newbies, it's a pity because you didn't show how it's possible to make the fence aligned, how to adjust that. Can you show that in a future video? Or did you make already a video on that topic. I'm looking forward to your next video.

Thanks, Colin, great as usual! I am a begginer in woodworking and am a little disappointed with my new Einhell TC TS 2025 table saw. Though i knew it was a not expensive saw, some of its characteristics didn,t liked me. The alignment of the fence is one of they , but the principal is the not accurate of the 90 degrees of the disk. The question i want make you is if i am expecting too much for this kind of saw or it could be better By example, if i set the gauge of the inclined cut in zero, the disk is NOT at 90 degrees. There is a difference of almost one milimetter betwen the top and the bottom of the disk saw. I sincerely congratulate you by the channel From Argentine, Mario.

A warped or cupped piece of lumber will also bind the blade when pushed through the fence not always alignment.

Hey Colin. Is it bad for miter slot to have that metal to metal contact with the adjustment screws? I suppose if they were aluminum screws they might not be abrasive to the miter slot. Meaning, the softer aluminum is less likely to affect the cast iron.

If the blade and the miter slot are parallel why not just check that the fence lines up witht he slot?

  • @joebrown1382
    @joebrown13827 жыл бұрын

I bought a Jet Super saw 15 years ago. The left slot is IN THE EXTENSION ! The slots are NOT parallel ! I built a cut off sled & it binds when you push it through. I loosened the 3 bolts on the extension & shimmed it out with aluminum foil. The sled slides better but not perfect. Jet does not do this any longer, both slots are now in the main cast iron.

The industry name for it is HDPE "high density polyethylene" Amazon has it or as others have mentioned, you can use a cheap cutting board which is the same stuff.

  • @RC-Flight

You can go to the dollar store and purchase a kitchen cutting board. They are also made of that material or very similar that will do the same job.

  • @quietudinal4857

@@RC-Flight No the same material at all Cutting board material melts at normal table saw speed giving a messy cut with melted swarf and you must run the cut as fast as you can to minimise melting. The plastic type you really need is UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) It has a Temperature range: -269ºC to +70ºC . This is sold as runners by some suppliers to fit standard tracks. Typical cutting board is made from HDPE Temperature range: -100°C to +80°C that's why you must cold cut.

This is backwards from what I was taught. The blade/motor should be adjusted to run at 90 degrees to the left (miter gauge) slot. Then the Fence should be adjust from the same miter gauge slot.

  • @RenoScruggs

40yeartrucker there is usually a couple of Allen head bolts or screws on there that will move the fence to left and right. A lot of saw fence are little different but the owners manual that comes with the saws will tell you what do.

Right if you place a piece of Phenolic in the slot & bring the fence up to it it should be flush, if not make adjustments on the fence.
