This tutorial is fantastic!!! Half square triangles and flying geese have been the frustration of my quilting life. You did a tutorial once about how to make perfect HSTs and it saved my sanity. Now a simple way to make flying geese - you're a GENIUS!!!!!

I see a number of people complaining about this technique being wasteful of fabric. I understand why some people consider it very wasteful, but its one of many techniques to make Flying Geese so if you don't like this technique then don't use it. Personally, I see the appeal of it since there's only one seam, very little math involved, and judging by the video they don't take long to make. This would be great for beginners, quilters who don't have a lot of time, or quilters who have difficulty making Flying Geese or find making them intimidating. And that Advent Calender project is adorable!

I fmq on a home machine. I used a dab of lapel stick (a fabric glue stick) on the edge of the geese at first. after a while, I had no trouble and didn't need it. another idea I had was a Lil scrap of wonder under to fuse it down. this method is a godsend for me. I have really arthritic hands, the less cutting, the better! love you, Jenny!

I can't wait to get started.I have been subscribed for quite awhile now and each tutorial inspires me. Oh how I wish I had the time to do each one. I have many favorites, but to pick just a couple--I would have to say the Chevron one and the Cuddle Pillow Quilt.Thank you so much for all of your wonderful shortcuts and tips.

I made the Christmas project Jenny shared at the end of the tutorial. My grandchildren each had one side on the wall hanging. . Then they spend the month of December writing an appreciating message each day to their siblings and put into a the others pockets. On Christmas Eve they take turns reading what the other wrote. I find we are so busy each day we don’t always see the kindness we do for each other.

RICKY TIMS demonstrated this same block several years ago on the quilt show.... I have made several of them...... I left some of the " pockets" open on them when I made the quilt for kids .... they could put small " lovies" in the pockets. I did find that the pockets could fill with " crud" if left open so I had to be careful and shake them out before putting them in the wash.

This has to be my favorite video of all time. It takes something that seems so complicated and makes it super simple. Thanks so much!

LOVE this and something I can make for more than one occasion. The inch inch strip you cut off can be used in a scrap project.

I must have missed something here. I didn't catch that much waste. hmmm....Anyway! I LOVE THIS IDEA! Flying Geese is one of my favorite quilts and this makes it so easy! I love the Advent quilt, too. Such a sweet way to use up scrap Christmas material. Thanks! :)

The 'waste' that I believe viewers are referring to is the fabric you 'don't see' hiding in-between the layers of quilt...due to the folding technique, it does not get cut off, and reused in another quilt top.... but gets hidden inside...but it could add to the warmth of the quilt and add to the general weight of the quilt as well.

I love this! Been looking for an easy way to border a panel. Now the only question is when its being quilted, won't the geese get caught in the design? Just like the iron caught it.

Question ... on the completed gray quilt, did you sew down the sides of each of the Geese prior to machine quiting it? It would seem that if you left the Geese sides open as on the Advent calendar, one would need to iron/press the gray quilt after each washing.
