    Such a darling bag, Jessica! Here's a tip I only recently learned, after sewing for 46 years. On the lining, when you stitch to your opening, don't cut the thread. Instead, l turn the lining 90° and stitch off the edge. Doing this on both sides of the turning opening helps to pull the seam allowance into the bag making closing it easier. Can't wait for the next video!

    This is a great video, doesn't assume we know anything about bag making, the tips are super handy, and the pace of the construction was perfect. I purchased the kit from MSQC and really appreciate all the lovely fabric, cork, and zipper that are coordinated and ready to go. Saves about eleventy-seven trips to the store! Looking forward to the next bag in this series.

    Purchased the Mia bag kit a week ago and finished it today in two sewing sessions. First time making a purse and with the all the supplies in the kit and the video tutorial it was a successful sewing project with a few seems needing ripped out and re-done but I’m happy with the finished product. I did change the lining fabric to a green batik that matched the flower fabric perfectly. Can’t wait to show it off!

    Cute bag! You can reduce bulk in the side seam by NOT topstitching past your zipper tabs. Don't think you mentioned that. Apologies if you did. You're a solid teacher!

    I think the key part is trimming the seam allowance before you turn the bag right side out to debulk.

    Loved the video. Very clear instructions, and great tips for success. I have one question, though; the pattern says that some useful additional items (which I then purchased) were the "handmade" hardware, rivets, rivet tool, purse "feet," etc. You did mention the purse "feet," but not the rivets. I assume they would replace the stitching in the strap, but do you use two on each side? Thanks for a great tutorial. Can't wait to make the bag.

    I made the bag yesterday and love how it turned out. Your instructions and video are so clear to follow. The only problem I had was when I was sewing the exterior panels together at the end and the two foam sides wouldn't move through my machine. I ended up putting a piece of freezer paper on either side to help it glide and then tearing off the paper. Not a great solution, but it worked. What am I doing wrong? do I need a special foot, or just a better machine?

  • @rachelharrison4614

    @rachelharrison4614

    2 жыл бұрын

    Was the problem the thickness of the foam? Maybe a Jean a ma jig would help. I've never used one myself, but it is a simple tool used when sewing together thick fabrics. It's usually used on Jean hems, but I've heard of people using them on all types of thick seams? I wouldn't do a very good job explaining how it works, but there are lots of videos you could watch.
