Now I know what to do if the power goes out at my next rave.
It's a blessing to have such elders around you to teach such simple yet amazing stuffs.

If you don't want to ruin the record use a plastic stylus cut out of a plastic bottle. It will still work well.

It's weird that this popped up as a suggestion to watch for me. I saw this clip on Nickelodeon back in the early 90s, and it started a lifelong love of recording media for me.
I was a follower of Mr. Wizard for a long time! Don't remember any of the programs but I'm sure I learned SOMETHING! lol
To think that only a few years ago we thought we could make speakers with some aluminum foil, some wire, a plate and a penny.

I saw a video like that when I was young. I was so excited and when it didn’t work I was crushed. I blame that video for not going into engineering.

I have a piece of graphite stuck in my hand for the last 30 years because of this episode. 10/10 would stab myself with a pencil again for more Mr. Wizards experiments.
man i remember seeing this years ago when i was a kid! i forgot this show existed...thanx for the memories👍😉
Then AJ would later create the worlds best record player company known as Crosley and make millions of dollars off of teens who have no idea what the hell they just bought
OK! I’m gonna try this with the UK first issue of The Darkside of the moon!
now, do it to *all* of your dad's records.
im going out to buy some cheap records at the thrift shop to try this out!
Macgyver did it with a pencil and a needle out of a piece of earring... lol
Magic school bus...school house rock... this show... compare the old shows to what they put out for kids now and wonder why science and maths scores for kids today are in a hole...
can somebody enlighten me why there is SO MUCH HATE for Crosley players? Are they garbage literally?
@dragonsmythical16

Even though I got one as a gift I did some research about them and apparently the weight of the needle arm can vary and sometimes isn’t regulated properly so it ruins a record over time. Another mention is the speaker system can disturb the record if loud enough to cause the record to move from the vibrations.
Yes, don't use your best records! Ideally, the needle tip should be spherical: I think it's .005" for the old 78 RPM. Keep the good work up and some of us more mature people need to teach the kids basic technology!
Man that's a tight hi-fi system there!!! I'd love to hear some 180 gram vinyl on it!!! Hi-Fi to the max mang....Hi-Fi to the Max....

Sounds great. The sound of vinyl will always top that of a CD or FLAC even. Even this primitive device ends up sounding so much better than a digital file, as I can hear the analog recording through this video.
Nice.
I will only do it to 78 rpm records and old 45 rpm records that my grandfather used to own
It think that would be infinitely better for a DIY Edison Standard.

Does this actually work?
@Trekkie4
Жыл бұрын
Yes, it does. Simple physics... not that I would recommend playing your records like that as the metal needle is going to destroy them, but it does serve as good example on how the phonograph (older & fully mechanical turntables) work.
it is a remarkable concept...that is totally lost on children today that think music only comes out of a phone or computer or the car
And ALF?
Does not work. Help
