This is a tutorial showing you how to make a knights chest armor using craft foam. Very easy to make and it comes out great. You can do this project in a couple of hours. And you don’t need a lot of materials.
This chest piece is adjustable so you can make it to fit you or anyone you want .

    i find these videos very helpful cause it gives me ideas on how to make my dragon armor for next Halloween but i just have too questions 1) can i attach the shoulder piece to the armor? 2) when can you show us how to make armor from the waist down?( minus the shoes)

    Thank you for making this tutorial! I just completed a Roman soldier costume for a young relative and used your tutorial to make the breast plate. Much lighter and more flexible than cardboard!

    Very cool and the final look is very convincing. Even the seams down the middle are reminiscent if where they would bend and shape the steel plates during forging. The Templar's cross was a nice touch.

    Im using the pvc foam floor mats its really thick and big anuff to cut the template on then mold it like indy mogul did but u have the knight chest plate which is exactly what im looking for thanks

    I found in Michael's craft store a roll of craft foam that would be perfect for the chest piece because you can just roll it out and put the whole pattern on the foam no seams to worry about/

    This is exactly what I need to make the under-armor for the breastplate for my Mega Man Volnutt cosplay! Only alteration I'll need to do is change the hole for the head so it has a more cylindrical shape like Volnutt's armor has, then attach the breastplate to it.

    Start with a simple sewing pattern a size too large so it will go on over clothing. Fold out any darts to remove them. That is, don't fold them to just the dart length shown. Fold it all the way across the pattern piece so it stays flat. Another reason for the larger size. Then extend the front sides to get overlap.

    hey epicfantasy how well will the velcro stick onto the posterboard? because when I apply velcro to other things such as cardboard, it pulls right off. Will it be very fragile and hard wearing? because I've been trying to make my own armor for the renaissance festival and I would like how well foam armor is before I start making it...

    I hope it's not to late to help you. I made a foam armor and that's what I did : I sew my velcro to an extra piece of foam (the same size as the velcro) and I glue it to my armor piece with contact cement. I think that it holds better on foam rather than on the velcro tape. (I hope you'll understand me, english isn't my first language, and that's hard to explain !)

    Hey Will, I am making a kings guard costume from game of thrones and this chest piece is perfect. But i have some questions. I'm making mine out of 6mm foam and I was wondering if I can fiberglass over the foam. I also did not see a template on your website? I admire your videos so much, defiantly one of my favorite KZreadrs. Your amazing, simple, cheap armor and weapon videos are so great.     Awesome tutorial! I was thinking of making that then adding some extra things to make it look like the Mirkwood elves. Either them or the lothlorien elven armor. Will it work as well if i use hot glue?

    when ever i try to go onto the storm the castle website to grab a template neither my phone nor my pc can load it. any idea why this is? i can load other websites just fine, any form of the storm the castle website gives me a website not found error though. thanks in advance :D

    Is this viable to do with a single large piece of foam for each side? I have several thick foam floor mats I wish to convert into armour.

    Yes, I believe it is. But, by "each side" you mean front and back? The only way to know is make up the template then see how the foam will fit on it. The thick floor mat foam can be a bit different to work with.

    When you complete all of the armor pieces you should get a full body mannequin to display how all the armor would look together. Just a suggestion.

    Is it posible tot replace the velcro for holes and use lether bands to keep it together. Looks more "real" that way. Or wol the fome board braken?

    I've used spray paint on the foam but it leave the armor still looking porous. Is there anyway for me to get it a consistent and smoother finish? Perhaps a certain primer?
