Sonia Bethancourt It doesn't fall apart. You see, when you stab the wool with the felting needle, the barbs on the needle 'grabs' wool strands and knots the wool together. I tried pulling apart wool before since I used the wrong color and it took too long with a lot of trouble!

I haven't needle felted in a while but this video is why I started

Well I'm pretty sure with a crappy toothpick it still wouldn't work. I've been needlefelting for over a year now. I'm pretty sure this guy is a troll. Oh, and Wendy, I recommend buying bulk online, because trust me, you'll break ten on the first try :D

Stella Anderson (I don't know If your still having a problem but I'll reply anyway) This same thing happened to me but when I first started felting. The first thing you need to do is make sure it's rolled up really tight and firm and it helps to start stabbing your ball while your rolling it up and you also want to make sure your sides are being tucked in as you roll it. After it's all rolled up you want to stab it together (mine usually take about 10 minutes to get into proper shape) after it's been shaped you just want to keep firming it up until your satisfied. You can do that by just stabbing it for a while or if you still have a lot of space inside and some loose areas then you'll just want to take those and stretch them over then stab them into place. If you do this you should have a firm ball after a while.

you can get a felting needle at your local craft store such as Michael's or Hobby Lobby, and or buy them online. You cannot use a regular sewing pin as these needles are not shaped the same as felting needles. Felting needles are shaped so that they can force the fibers to tangle with each other. Regular needles and pins are not shaped this way.

I stopped doing felting as I got fed up with stabbing myself. I have tons of wool tops, and having seen your gorgeous little kitties I will just have to dig them out and have a go. They are so cute. (The stabbing is due to arthritis in hands and being 70, I shall just have to think me younger.) I made a really nice camel with a saddle and lots of dangly tassels, but it took me 3 months to finish! Otherwise I made mainly dogs and the odd rabbit. Thank you for re-inspiring me.
