Nice tip about the silica gel, didn't know that. After that machete attack in 2019 on the AT, I now include a tourniquet, 5x9 sterile pad, & cohesive wrap. Also, a lot of people get rashes on their upper thighs & private parts and a tube of clotrimazole cream is a lifesaver, that rash turns into flesh eating bacteria and just eats your skin.

for blisters: I pop them but leave the skin and put moleskin or leukotape over it. After a bit the skin dries out and dies and peals right off. by then the skin underneath isn't as sensitive anymore. Never had an issue or an infection.

This video was something I came across last spring, well before you started SOBO. I'm packing for an overnight right now and wanted to express a note of appreciation for your advice. My reworked kit is lighter by half, less chaotically jumbled, and (I think) more focused on actual trail needs. A couple of outings later (only minor scrapes and aches, fortunately) I can confirm its value. Thank you! Keep moving forward!

Used to roll ankles a lot in the military. the combat boots weaken your ankles by providing too much support. So I came up with ways to exercise my ankles after that, and avoid wearing any shoes with ankle support ever since to keep my ankles strong. Been wearing minimalist shoes almost exclusively now for over 10yrs, no matter the weather or terrain.

Probably better to pee on a wound needing irrigation, instead of using filtered water.
