Make a 2 Sided, Desktop Infinity Mirror...

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Most of the infinity mirrors that I've seen are one sided, but I wanted to build one a little bit different. This one is going to be 2 sided and designed so that it can be displayed on a desktop or a shelf. It's an easy, very cool project to make! To me it kind of looks like it could be a Stargate.

Thank you everybody for your support and for all the constructive feedback on this video! I made it so that it can be a starting point and inspiration for your projects. I did make some mistakes in the process of building it, but I do appreciate all of the constructive criticism in the comments because that helps other viewers on their projects. One thing that I want to point out that some of my viewers have mentioned is that I drilled through 2 of the glued joints. That's not something you would want to do. The only reason I did is because it isn't supporting any weight and it allowed me to give it a balanced look for the bolts. But eventually that joint will break and I will need to deal with that. Please continue to leave helpful feedback so that new viewers can benefit from your input!

Well it might not be better but you could turn it into a clock by having a track in the middle and have an ever moving indicator. Then you could have the lights color shift based on the month and how far into a month it is.

I made this other one so that I could turn it into a clock kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmGexauihpnVpqw.html but I didn't think about having the colors shift depending on which month/time of month it is. I like that idea! When I get to that point I may have to include that feature.

Ok it was a while since I last did anything with optics but you might get a better result if you put on more pice of plexiglass or of a plane of glass between the two outer plexiglass but touching the inner part of the of the mirror film. I would also try using less directional individual leds and use a epoxy with the same refractive index as the middle part to create a pice that is solid all the way through but is a laminate of materials of different refractive index. Also you can get the semi reflective film in a whole lot of different grades of transparency so you could make it none transparent all the way but still give the infinity mirror from both sides effect.

Wonderful! I love your ideas, and the way that you go about test fitting everything, and trying out your ideas. I think that you idea to place the tint to the inside is really good! I have dealt with tint for years, and this is by far the best way to have done it. Have you thought about reproducing both of your frames, and placing them on the outside of the plexiglass? That way you actually have an outer frame. This would possibly strengthen the whole structure. And also, try using smaller screws. Something that will disappear into the framework. Not so noticeable...Keep up the great work! I love this!

1st and foremost this is awesome project and good video... love the window effect sugestion: 1. buy a 2' x 2' sheet of wood at desired thickness. sandwhich the 2 plexisheets to the wood sheet. (better than all those pieces 2. draw your pattern. drill your screws / bolt patterns and secure (head ache saver, use something with flush heads.. replace end product with desired bolts)... 3.cut with a fine tooth jigsaw blade ... or scroll saw. use a drill bit to make a starter hole when cutting out the center. note: monitor your blade & bit speed + pressure. doing it this way makes it easier to create all kinds of shapes... cut your designs out in cardboard for templates so you can easily reproduce. there are alot of cool spray paints out there to add texture effects to you final design... a super high sand paper helps smooth everthing out. if you own a router you could also inlay your plexit sheets.

Interesting this stuff is only getting popular now. Back in the '70s, I was building these for friends, and even installed a large version in a buddy's van, back in the day when guys were tricking out their vans with fancy interiors, lighting, and air-brushed exterior artwork. Loved doing airbrushing back then, too, but the infinity mirror idea hit me when I was playing with a couple pieces of two-way mirror, and suggested it would make a great panel on a wall, or a table sculpture, so he paid for the materials and I put one together over the next couple days. It had a lighting controller that would allow the edge lighting to do a movie-marquee-style thing with any speed variation he wanted. This video's method is showing a way that's a little cheaper than buying pieces of actual 2-way mirror, which can get ridiculously expensive, depending on reflectivity grade.

Color Changing LEDs with a controler would make that definatively sicker. You can add a cut out of a character or something on a thin plastiglass, and set it in the middle, so that it gives the impression of someone going through, and since there's a gap between the cut out and each side of the mirrors, when you look at it at an angle it give some Perspective.

i would do one side a full one way mirror and the other a normal transparent mirror that way you can flip one side and be able to see through it like this one but then flip it to have an endless LED tunnel effect

Nice video! Love the idea. If you want to have the same two-sided infinity effect but don't want anyone to be able to see it through the other side, You could've possibly placed two mirrors back to back and inlaid them in between the plexi glasses, although this does mean you would have a thicker mirror and would need to buy another set of LED strips.

  • @HowDoYouDIY
