Just don't worry, we are doing good & will do wonderful. Remember the institution & the Country is important, not the individuals. We fantasize a lot for people who speaks wonderful english & who try to portray things gloomy. You shall & will witness what all is done in last 4.5years, is going to reap huge benefits in another year or two It creates nervousness in the likes of so-called secular politicians, writers, professors & last but not the least so-called Secular Journalists wouldn't feel the same way as they are used to.....they all know the days ahead is for sure brighter than today & once the Government Of the day achieves the same then the political situation will ensure not to cater any kind of favouritism to which these rich & so-called learned people are inclined & habituated to.

Hope you remember the menace of NPA's rouse alarmingly during his tenure which obviously this government of the day did put things in the public domain & ensured to seize any wrongdoing further by taking many corrective measures which Mr. Rajan also acknowledged in this very interview. Remember when the flood gates are open then to quick fix anything isn't that easy. This very fact is well known to Mr Rajan as well. Let's put it like this....In a neighbourhood a drain was getting choked so a sweeper was called to clean the drain. Public asked sweeper how much time will he take to clean the drain. Sweeper said 5 hours. OK do it. Sweeper went inside drain duct & started cleaning. When 5 hours were about to complete, public from top asked, is it about to complete ? Sweeper said no I have not even been able to do half as yet. So the argument started. Sweeper then asked public since when this drain is & when was it last cleaned ? 70 years & no idea when it was last cleaned. Sweeper then told public - You allowed the drain to get choked for 70 years & did not bother to clean & now when I am cleaning it you are telling me why I am slower than what I promised to do. I came to know how much muck is there in drain only after I came inside the drain. It is more than what I anticipated when I was outside. So what you want now? Sweeper to continue cleaning the drain or come out & let drain get choked again by same people who clogged it in the first place. You can blame the sweeper to be slow ( compared to what? ), You can blame sweeper for poor anticipation of muck inside but can you blame him for muck that has deposited over decades or for not doing his job ? Worst will be if you ask sweeper to come out & let the drain get choked again. PS - This story has nothing to do with 2014 & 2019 or Gandhi family & Modi. It has more to do with intelligence of us Indians.

@@jotendrakumar2852 when you're talking about petrol prices, you should know on what factors does the petrol/diesel prices depend. Just check the International crude oil price between 2004 and 2014, you'll get your answer why the petrol prices were so high. Talking about the other factors. You must know one thing. Congress was a corrupt party and so is BJP. But while the UPA rule, they had BJP as a very strong opposition. Congress is not as strong opposition and that is why it becomes important for people like Raghuram Rajan to raise their voice against the present government. One advise for you brother. It's the basic right of every citizen of this country to have his/her own opinion. Maybe Raghuram Rajan has observed something worse in the tenure of BJP than during the tenure of UPA. Think about it.

Swamy has repeatedly said Raghu brings ‘American’ economic philosophy to Indian economy. Inflation and growth go hand in hand. Raghu wanted to control inflation at the risk of moderating growth and BJP/Swamy want more growth even if it meant higher inflation. RBI and the government cannot row in opposite directions hence he was released from RBI.

It made MPC to control inflation. Urjit patel was bigger inflation hawk than Rajan. Swamy is frustated economist. He knows how to sound smart, but not one sensible economist in country backs his theories. Among economists, swamy has same status as a climate change denier in scientists.

It is one of the most informative interview of Professor Rajan, but Mr. Prannoy should have avoided interrupting Dr. Rajan's explanations by putting his own "non-expert" opinions (acknowledged by Roy at the beginning by saying he is not a economist). Many of the great insights were cut-off by the anchor when Dr. Rajan could have described academically.

Inder Makkar , that’s a good thought, he could be - but not as Dr Manmohan Sigh. He needs to be independent from any the family. Also one of the thing inclusiveness- current govt have that in them “ Sab ka saath Sab ka vikas”. We were divided since 70 years, if congress or any govt put common civil code we can solve this, let’s see congress can take this as challenge. BJP had that in their agenda- looking forward.

I am having a funny thought this conversation is like it teaches our economists and financial minister a lesson free of cost I know I am not able understand that high quality debate but I know some people are watching this discussion and they are understanding what they are doing

At 16.00 ..what he said about Nehru is reality of inclusive India.. Nehru ambedkar Rajendra Prasad..all had similar thoughts for making inclusive India..we should proud of our founding fathers..

I see many people, mostly who are naming everyone anti-hindu or sort, are questioning why he didn't solve NPA problem in his tenure. Well, the thing is RBI is regulator. It can only point out bad loans. It does not have much say when banks are healthy. During Rajan's term, most banks were healthy and giving loans like crazy. He had warned then about not giving credit like baap ki zagir, but that happened. He ordered banks to disclose their books when he realised problem was brewing (AQR) , but our benelovent leaders decided it was time at this crucial Juncture, to change RBI guard. After that, we have spent 2 1/2 years framing PCA and IBC, after which, guess what, we have a new governor, this one was never even part of RBI board uptill now. Even if you are a BJP supporter because f some hindu-agenda, this hurts us all. Listen to an economist, who has no interest in partisan politics, than sanghis like gurumurthi or merchant

Liabilities comprise of what RBI owes e.g the value of currency issued

Value that is on the note. Because that is what the note says," I owe to pay the bearer a sum of....".You can call the RBI to honour it. So the currency is like a fixed deposit receipt you have with the RBI.

Raghuram Rajan Sir, you are talent our country needs and to be followed rather than following anybody else. Thank you very much Sir. And thanks to ndtv for this nice interview of his.

What a conversation....! Pranav trying to get as much information on Rajan's past work and difference and difficulty in current economic situation..... Rajan saved himself by not taking names and examples in explanation.... And when Pranav caught him on GDP.... question... Rajan said he is not an expert on GDP calculation.... Wow what an escape.... Made my day....

No words can define his persona .

This is a sincere thanks to NDTV for bringing such a legend on stage and emphasizing on the real issues this country is facing. I really hope our government addresses these issues with utmost sincerity and maybe we are finally united with those "acche din" which we were promised. Dirty Politics aside, in order for our nation to grow a basic sense of being an 'INDIAN' is a must. I hope with time in hand we understand this and effectively we progress towards development.

Thank you so much NDTV for this fantastic and deeply insightful interview. I find economics little difficult, but hearing someone as erudite as Dr. Rajan is amazing 😊👏🏻

An absolutely professional way of conducting debate with lots of knowledge sharing by both. An anchor being able to understand to the invitee and vice versa makes the debate fruitful and professional. Edited: had mentioned "Rajan", changing it to "Mr. Rajan" Mr Rajan is one of the most respected intellect by people of India if not people in governance and the list is very small

I really didn't get.. why Miss Anchor didn't ask 1. if "Vijay Mallya" is A Fraud or Defaulter.. 2. If RBI can play a major role in solving the NPA or load issues.. What the hell was he doing, while he was RBI governor.

@@ankitasingh8059 With due respect to Mr. Rajan.. he was governor from Sep 2013 to 2016, that's the period when "Actual" bad loan jump from ₹4 Lack Crores to ₹ 8 lack crores (2013-2014.. data by NDTV and india today), then to ₹ 10 lack crores the moment he left.. If govt (modi) is responsible for unemployment or Farmer de-stress.. then why not the Boss of bosses of all banks.. should be responsible for crumbling down and looting of Banking sectors.. ??? Kindly respond.. 🙏🙏

@@ankitasingh8059 how can we digest the fact that. The economist who predicted 2008 recession in Advanced.. couldn't figured out the looting in Banks.. Downfall of Banking sector of india.. I have been living I. Sweden since last 1 year and one thing I learnt.. We indians are so stupid that we follow either Modi or Rahul or Rajan so blindly. Our so-called educated youth of India need to know. Handling economy of india more tougher as US/Europe has formal economy, which can be run or predicted by bookish knowledge. But not india.. 🙏🙏

Mamun Rashid : Listen- he say actions were taken since 2014, once elections are done burden passed to next coming in-charge. And economy is not as bad as It is hyped.

We loose educated economists to election campaigners who are just drilling a hole in the institutional fabric of Indian Democracy. Majoritarianism is a drama of the shakunis... I grew up with unity in diversity as a slogan we shouted till our lungs were sore. We need responsible people like Mr. Roy ask responsible questions. The people of India must stand with the like of Mr. Roy when they are threatened! Thanks Mr.Roy am your fan from world this week days!

Very informative. Influenced my thought process and the way I was looking at the situation to a large extents. Worried about the university view of India and civil war within.

loved it.. many thanks.. my question to both of you is how to bridge gap between experts, like you, and common, like me.. vote is one, but may be slow, and reason for majoritarian conflicts around world.. can direct democracy, ie stronger participation of common people to economy, politics, legislation etc be the solution

I love the fact that he is now speaking much more freely and expressing his thoughts much more than he was when was in India as governor. He could not speak against the thinking or the policies of the govt. or a massive backlash would have come his way.

The point he noted about rupee devaluation & the concomitant rise in RBI's asset has clarified my doubt of as to why the government is seeking greater dividends from the RBI. The simplicity with which he explains technicalities of economics indicates how good a teacher he is.

Raghuram Rajan the Greatest Economist Endowed with Compassion,Humility,Simplicity and above All a Very Good Human Being.May His Tribe Increase.

Wow!! Everytime u listen to him, u get learn a lot of things and an insight to d economy! He explains very complex thing in such a way that a layman can understand clearly! He is an asset of India! What a talent! We have let such talent to go and allowed our economy to be messed up! Shame on us!!
