    The 3 day cycle adds a whole new dimension to the role-play element. The characters become predictable, and you really get underneath their skin, as you repeatedly observe them go through these same 3 days of their lives, having the option to intervene with their troubles or not... At the same time, after the 3 day cycle is reset, you and Tatl are the only ones who actually remember your encounters and interventions with these people...

There was an interview done with Miyamoto during the release of OoT 3D who said that Link is 9 year and went onto a 16 year old as an adult. "When we decided to handle Link growing up from a 9-year-old child to a more mature 16-year-old". However, MM does not take place 1 year after OoT, different sources such as Hyrule Historia state that Majora's Mask happens "months" after the ending of Ocarina of Time. it still never fails to mesmerize me that this game was developed in a period of 1 year. This game is my favorite game, of all time. The atmosphere, the story, and the dungeons just seem on point. Sure it has some flaws here and there, but not enough to interrupt the enticement the game had at my 7 year old self. 18 years later... the game still has a similar effect. That is how a game ages.

    A lot of it reads as streamlining problems they saw in the JP version. For instance, messing up the water temple platform seems more frustrating for a player. Adding a noise cue to the bomber's steps would help locate them. Sound changes would help the cut scene. So it's like they picked up on problems after and took the chance to tweak them.

  • @ResentItPlays

    @ResentItPlays

    I assume each character has a map of voices the game uses when certain things happen. So each character has a "groan" when they lift themself up an edge, an "attack" when they initiate an attack, and even a "scream" for when they either fall from a high height or take damage. Since Fierce Deity is just Majora's Mask's usage of adult Link from OoT, they probably mapped adult Link's "scream" to Fierce Deity's "scream", and when the ending cutscene looked for the character's "scream" it got the one for adult Link.

    It's not non glitched, but there is a much easier way to be the Fierce Deity. Honestly probably a couple. The reason they locked him up and restricted his use is because at the start, he was going to be the "Adult" mask, which was how they were going to spin the kid / adult transformation from Ocarina of Time. That eventually got scrapped, and FD was what was left, too big to functionally fit most places sized for this "in between" not as short as kid not as tall as adult link, and didnt really have much functionality left anyway He's too big for doors, (When you open a door his lower half has to clip into the ground just so he can walk through it), his energy discs affect like, 1 or 2 enemies that are not bosses in the entire game, and his defending with the infinity sword is....less than effective at best. At least for me, running around the world as Fierce Deity was fun for 1 cycle of the game, and then lost it's appeal. It's actually kinda boring.

I could see them being originally used instead of the strange diagonal chests in the goron moon dungeon to make those 90 degree turns. They seem to have the right properties for it, but the chests were probably more reliable in the end.

    LOVEEEEE the Great Fairy training cut scenes! It fits so well with the other MM tie-ins to Hero of Time’s role in Twilight Princess, such as the Song of Healing. It brings more things full circle. The idea of him still having room to get stronger and better despite having already saved an entire other timeline is a nice touch, too. Great compilation of differences! I don't know how but I had that JP version since I was a kid, and I sure did noticed changes on future ports, there are other changes that also caught my attention: -In the US version they removed a cutscene where you see the giants dying, if you call them to stop the moon but you haven't saved the four, and that scene returned to the 3DS version! just like the Pirates Fortress route for the Hookshot returned! -And speaking of cutscenes, in the JP version you are forced to watch certain cutscenes like those that happens after you beat a boss, but in future versions, the game simply skips the cutscenes after you have seen them once. -There's also a little weird glitch that happens when Kafei hugs Anju, his position gets a little messed up and he gets warped away from her just for a little bit, but that one really is nothing important. But yeah, the game was pretty much rushed and for some aspects I'm kinda glad it got some changes, except for the save files for those that have siblings hah.

    That segment about the ocarina being able to sound as Sheiks harp and the sound of Impas whistle let's us know what the team had in mind. During that single year of development. ... well more like, it gives us a good question to ask/look into: was Link going to be able to play more than one instrument? (In his true Hylian form)... and for what purpose? Another thing that that caught my eye was the unused scenes of the Great Fairies training Link. It hit me how that very well could have been what inspired the Hero's Shade passing down his Hidden Skills to The Hero of Twilight. It's a bit awe-inspiring

    The "-tula" in 'Skulltula' is meant to be pronounced like in 'tarantula'. And I guess while I'm on the subject, "oo" in 'Nabooru' is meant to be pronounced like in the word 'door', and 'Deku' as "deh-koo" or "dey-koo". Also, being that it was the Japanese version, you'd be venturing Termina as a demon, not a god, being that link is wearing the "Demon Mask" in Japanese.

    @Warren Valion It would appear to be a mistranslation indeed. I found a Japanese fansite for the game, and it had it listed as 鬼神 (kishin). While that first character is oni (demon), the second one is kami (god), which some-how some-one back in the day missed, and it's been spread as fact ever since. To correct myself, 鬼神 does indeed translate to 'Fierce Deity'.

    Fun fact: You used the Collector's Edition for the North American footage, but the Japanese GameCube version of Majora's Mask (included with "The Legend of Zelda Collection", The Japanese version of CE) actually features most of the changes made to the original international localization, such as the ability to save at Owl Statues and the simplified Deku Palace bean seller route. On the other hand, it preserves a few aspects of the Japanese Nintendo 64 release, such as the clock (reading 0 for 12 and "Last" on the Last Day) as well as Skull Kid's cry being bound to him. This information (as well as much more changes than listed here) can be found on The Cutting Room Floor article you linked.
