Major Storm: Fire trucks responding with siren and lights and on scene

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A storm brought heavy rain, thunder and lightning to the West Midlands regional area. Multiple fire engines were busy responding to calls as seen in this video, which also captured the intense driving conditions that night in Herefordshire, UK.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) became very busy responding to water related emergencies such as flooding and fires involving motorways, barns, vehicles, sub-stations, railway embankments, telegraph poles and vegetation across the two counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire per @HWFireControl on Twitter: / hwfirecontrol

    I live here it was 2 months of rain in 4hrs, don’t think any drain system could take that value of water, one road I never seen flooded before, and the Greyfriars Bridge A49 Road was totally flooded out, and many local road passable with care due to water and tree debris on the roads

    I work in a store by Greyfriars, the yard was looking like a swimming pool & if it had rained any longer we’d have had to close.

    Great footage there, hope you are all safe. It's tragic to see such news of flooding, if only our town planners could design sustainable and functional drainage systems like those in Japan and abroad.

    Quick question: what is the difference between a water ladder, water tender, rescue pump, water rescue tender and heavy rescue pump? Is there a striking difference between any of these, or does it depend on the type of ladder? To me they all look identical except for the 13.5/10.5m ladders.

  • @YelpBullhorn

    @YelpBullhorn

    Not a lot really! It's very fashionable these days for fire brigades to invent their own designations for what are essentially the same vehicle. Historically pump ladders and pumps were kitted out as urban fire engines, whereas water ladders and water tenders were more of a rural-specific vehicle. But these days the terms are interchangeable. Obviously pump ladders in cities carry different kit to those that operate in the countryside, but essentially they are the same. Water ladders DO tend to carry the 13.5 metre ladder as their main ladder (but not always!), whereas water tenders carry the 10.5 metre as its main ladder. And a water ladder's kit is still more geared towards urban incidents, such as property fires, chemical incidents and rescues. And water tenders still tend to be rural-specific, and carry things such as a light portable pump, chimney fire kit, animal rescue gear, and beaters for grass fires. Now it starts to get somewhat complicated.... Some water tenders carry no hydraulic rescue gear at all, and some brigades will equip them with some, but not as much as the water ladder. Some are fully kitted out, and the word "rescue" is generally incorporated into its designation, such as a water rescue tender, or rescue pump or water tender rescue...... etc., the list seems endless these days! Today all UK water ladders and pump ladders carry full RTC hydraulic rescue gear, and many brigades allude to this in their vehicle designation. So we get water rescue ladder, water ladder rescue, pump rescue ladder, rescue pump ladder, water ladder emergency tender....... blah blah blah. But all you need to know is that these are basically the same vehicle. Curiously some rescue pumps carry the 10.5 metre ladder while some carry the 13.5 metre ladder, but don't mention it!!!! When you see the word "heavy" added it means they'll be carrying more rescue gear than a normal rescue pump, and "ultra heavy" means it'll be carrying even more than that. This extra rescue capacity can result in these appliances responding to rescue calls outside of their usual turnout area, and often respond county-wide in much the same way that rescue tenders and emergency used to do, and in some cases, still do. Rescue tenders and emergency tenders are few and far between these days because of the multi-role abilities of today's jack-of-all-trades fire engines. So basically if it's got "ladder" in its title it has the bigger ladder, but not always! And if it has the word "rescue" in it it carries hydraulic 'jaws of life' rescue gear. But if it doesn't have "rescue" in its title, it might not be carrying rescue gear. But then again, it might be!!! Hope this helps!

    YelpBullhorn I do most of my research on lfb (who only has pumps, pump ladders and frus, and who don’t use 10.5m ladders at all), so I’m not familiar with all these variants.
