I grew up in a short (and basically elderly) staffed rural VFD, and the tanker support almost brought a tear to my eye.

Man I would love to see some detailed walk around videos of those tractor drawns! We don't have anything like that in Ky (at least nothing anywhere close to where I am in north central Ky) and they have always fascinated me.
This is a fantastic compilation! That Kenworth tanker is an oddball, with square headlights on what otherwise looks like a T800. Thumbs up!

@@tdore5794 First thank you for your service. I did six years in the US AF in Vietnam. 67-73. I have never seen tankers like this used for fire fighting. My home burnt down September 2021. It went all the way to the ground due to lack of water. Our fire department only has a 1000 gallon tanker. Needless to say a total loss, still trying to work with the insurance company.
Hey everyone do those semi fire trucks got a cb radio like what all the other truck drivers got that’s on channel 19 ?
@farmkid230
Жыл бұрын
If the department trucks spent alot of time or work near a major highway then they most likely would have CB radios, but if they usually only travel within their fire jurisdiction then they would only have their regular fire equipment radios
Dear lord that is a lot of gallons of water.
The Glendola Ladder Truck has four vertical lights on the passenger side of the cab, from top down they’re green, blue, yellow and red. Do they serve some purpose or are they just emergency lights? They don’t seem to be on as the truck is going down the road. Just curious if they mean something if anybody knows.
@demonracer2
Жыл бұрын
Good question! They do serve a purpose. Those lights gauge approximately how much water is left in the onboard tank, so if a crew is operating away from the truck they could look back to see if they have 1/2 or a 1/4 tank of water left etc

Please explain their numbering system for the apparatus
@demonracer2
Жыл бұрын
Sure thing I would love to! For Monmouth county the first number is the “district” each town is designated a district number, the second is the station within the district, and the last number is the unit type, which here is the explanation of each. 30-32 - Fire Marshals 66 - Chief 67-68 - Assistant Chief 69-71 - Other Fire Officer 72-74 - Attack Engine (Pumper) 75-84 - Class A Engine (Pumper) 85-88 - Rescue/Salvage 89-92 - Aerial Ladder/Tower Ladder 93-94 - Brush Truck 95-97 - Tanker 98-99 - Support Unit So for example the first truck in the video was 52-2-90 52(Wall Township)-2(station 2)-90(ladder) Other towns in the county like long branch or Asbury Park only have one station so they skip the middle number for simplicity and will just response as 25-74 or 83-89. Hope this helps!
Just an odd question. I live in the western US, so I don't know much about laws on the east coast. What are the rules about sirens? I see almost all the apparatus shut audible warning devices down about the same point. Were they entering a protected area or something like that? As I said, I am just curious. I do like seeing the various apparatus you catch. Thanks for the videos.
@demonracer2
Жыл бұрын
I was standing about a half a mile from the scene, sadly the tractor drawn tankers were coming from a very low populated area next to an airport and commercial properties so low traffic flow so none of them except the Chief were using sirens pulling up
@firefighteruppy9121
Жыл бұрын
I'm in Maryland in a small rural farm community. I can't see their view down the road, but I would imagine, like us, they only run the sirens in areas that need it (around populated areas, intersections and side streets).
@jaysmith1408
Жыл бұрын
Driver discretion for the most part, I personally use them at little as possible. If there’s nobody to move, what’s the point? With enough sight range, the lights do most of the clearing. Chirp the siren, if clearing an intersection, but don’t overdo it.

@@demonracer2 our biggest issue at 16-1, was getting the older guys to teach us at least pay for a few guys to get their CDL but the old rules applied. We would have had about 6 new drivers or more. They did it to themselves. Should never had gotten rid of that piece. Was an important part of the Tanker Task Force. Rather have 6000 to 8000 gals per truck than less than 5000
