MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY 2019 SILVERADO: Why Did I Buy A Chevy?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Over the past year of owning my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado RST, I have noticed a major issue. The rear end in this truck sounds like it is going to fly apart sometimes. Periodically it will clunk violently when either coming to a stop or going between reverse and drive. How long will the truck and/or rear end last? Only time will tell.

I own a 2019 Chevy Silverado Z71 trail boss. I have not experienced that issue but from time to time I hear odds and ends clunks and sometimes poor transmission slips. I agree with you in the fact that I like all brands, and I give every name a shot at my business. Look at the Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade that have become unbelievably solid examples of vehicle brands that were terrible in the past. I see a lot of inconsistencies within the same make and model. For example....My 2019 silverado has been solid but by friends same model has not been. I also have close friends with Ram and F-150 that are good and bad. I work in the collision industry and I see most vehicles for collision only but I do hear of problems with all brands at any given time.

Here we are in 2024, and the Chevy 8 speed has had 60 plus TSA for shudder, slipping and hard shift amongst other problems. They are now in a class action lawsuit for this exact transmission. I have a 2019 Silverado that started acting up after I did d transmission fluid service at 47k. I'm glad like you I have the extended warranty because at 64k it began bad downshifting at pulling up to stop lights. They replaced the valve body and just returned my truck after 3 weeks, parts are in high demand and in back order that's not a good sign. Looking to go to the 10 speed but a little leary of Chevy and GM now

Hello Kevin. I also follow Scotty Kilmer and his great advice. This is before I bought my used 2013 Chevy Silverado LT 4X4 extended cab pickup truck. I just bought it back this year on my birthday in February. I bought it with 74,204 miles. I use it to go to work and come back to my apartment. About 3 days ago I drove it round trip 307 miles from San Antonio, Texas to Laredo Texas and I did not experience any trouble of that kind like you did with your 2019 Silverado. It has been a great truck and the only thing I have replaced on my truck is the master power window switch. But this is regular use wear and tear. Other than that, iit has worked great for me.

@Prince Marth yes we’re all “blinded” by pride over Chevys. That’s why we’re watching a video about problems someone mite have with them. Also your the one that responded to someone not even bashing Ford with how your “friend” bought a new Chevy and it broke down after 10miles. I work in a good paying job that employees a lot of younger people who need trucks for the type of work. I’ve had coworkers buy new rams that started having problems before even 5000 miles, I’ve seen the same with f250s brand new but constant problems. Sometimes you just get a Lemon. Also when I bought my truck brand new I’m used to having to break in little engines so I figured the same with my 1500. The first couple thousand miles I went easy on it. My family is a Chevy family, my dad started with a F250 but he didn’t like it. He said the suspension was too stiff? Don’t ask me to explain what he meant, I was young and just know he didn’t care for the f250. His 2500 is coming up on 250000 miles he takes way better care then most people do with their trucks.

Sounds and feels like a torque converter. It's covered but wouldn't be. The cost of that warranty will have paid for itself. It covered an injector replacement ($1k) not to long ago. And now this... I always buy the warranty. I'd rather have it and not need it than come up with the money when it's most inconvenient cuz that's when something always goes wrong. Thanks for the vid.

I think Scotty likes to piss people off. I know mechanics that hate Fords cause they suck to work on and Scotty worships them. I have a 2019 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3 V8 as well with 40k miles. I am the 2nd owner & bought it with only 7,500 miles. I've never had the clunking that you're describing but I do have a couple things that really bother me about the truck. Didn't notice it till after I drove it for a few weeks(of course) Sometimes but not all the time there is slight slip in the transmission from 1st to 2nd gear. It bothers me because I feel like on a practically brand new truck it should shift immediately into gear without any hesitation. Not sure what that's all about but i also I have a slight hesitation sometimes when taking off almost like there is a fuel injection or carburetor issue. I periodically run Lucas Oil fuel treatment through the truck which seems to smooth it out a bit but there is still that slight hesitation that drives me nuts.. sometimes almost sounds like the carb or injector is clogged where it's starving for fuel. The transmission slip is very concerning though as down the road I'm wondering if that's going to become a bigger issue.

your rear end is fine.........a small slip......could and will trigger the locker. I was super concern when that happened to me, I thought the transmission slipped badly. As time when on and got to know the truck more, I realize the locker will activate sometime with the smallest slips, and sometimes it won't engage even with heave acceleration and slip. Its an automatic locker, it will act randomly.

I have a 2019 Silverado 1500 LT, 5.3L with 3.42 rear axle ratio. I love the truck and haven’t experienced any clunking as of yet. However, I have noticed at times a slight hesitation “Like fuel starvation” if I accelerate rapidly. I live on a slight incline and it only does it the first time I drive it. I took it to the dealer and he said it had something to do with warming up and building up air pressure. When I do let the truck warm up I have noticed it doesn’t do it. I wonder if anyone else has experience any of this. Update: I just found this on GM Forum “Look up bulletin #16-NA-361 harsh 1-2 shift upon first startup shift under light throttle. GM says it is normal on the 8 speed. It has something to do with the initial clutch fill time of the C4 clutch. No fix for it. Gm says it's normal. I have driven more than one 2019 8 speed and they all do it.” Thanks, Phil

I've also read on the forums that the truck has it "learn" your driving, so it'll calm down after a while.

I had something similar happen on my 2019 colorado last year though. They installed shims in the rear leafs to help quiet down the popping noise when it would pop into gear. I'm not worried on the silverado, Feels beefier and better made to me in my opinion. Just drive it hard til it let's go! You'd rather it break sooner than later right?!

Hell mines done that from take off, reverse to drive, and cruising at 50mph not sure if it’s rear end or transmission but it is a extremely hard shift it feels then truck immediately goes into limp mode. And throws all kind of sensors. I pulled the code my self once it said lost connection to TCM. Dealer always makes up some excuse or dumb fix that doesn’t change anything. Last time they said it just needed an update. It’s happened twice since then. I don’t even bother taking it in anymore I just live with the issue as it hasn’t left me stranded yet. I learned to pull over restart the truck which will typically get me out of limp mode and then just drive normally and the check engine light goes away after a day or 2. Btw I should note my truck is 2019 Silverado high country 1500 6.2 with the 10 speed.

I know this is an old video, but throwing my experience out. I have the same truck except mine is a non-z71 4x4. I had the transmission shutter, the rear end issue with the reverse to drive, and now at 74k, it’s getting a whole new top end due to the bad lifters. Been a GM guy my entire driving life, but seriously considering going to another brand. Luckily, I have a lifetime powertrain warranty to cover it all. Just not worth the hassle though as long as it has to stay in the shop.

I have often wondered why any major car company would keep building cars with the same defect year after year. I now think I know why. My 2019 Silverado would fail to engage after stopping then slam violently into gear upon take off. As he states, it was literally like getting hit from behind. The dealer claimed they could find no issue, but told me I could trade it if I was uncomfortable driving it. And in fact I did trade it for another brand truck from the same dealer. They then sold my truck (presumably without telling the next buyer about the tranny issue) for $10k more than they paid me for it. The dealer made a tidy profit on my warranty issue and kicked the can to the next customer who will likely either wind up having to trade it in again or else buy a new transmission on their own dime. The 8L90 transmission is probably the most profitable item in the GM line up.

Hay Kevin! I have Experienced that same problem. And its Vary intermittent! I believe its the transmission. Intermittently when shifting from reverse to drive ,the forward clutch isn't getting adaquite fluid to fully apply the clutch pack. So what your feeling is a natural flair. The engine RPM increases before the clutch is applied. Giving you that "Bang". Hopefully there will be a fix for this intermittent condition soon. I'm not concerned enough to tear down the trans to look for this problem at this point, mainly because its so intermittent. And it could be as simple as a software update. I'm an Advanced Level Master Automotive technician. I have 39 years of experience. At a GM dealership. I disagree with Scotty! I've been at the Chevrolet Dealer my Entire Career. And I have worked on ALL makes and Models of vehicles. (My Dealer has a high Valume body shop and used car department) So I'm well versed on most vehicles Out there! I started working on GM vehicles previously to Computer Command Control Vehicles. So I've seen a lot of changes over the years. Some good some bad! But nothing to make me move away from buying GM products. But it doesn't matter what vehicles make it is, it will have something wrong it at some point. But anyway I don't think you need to worry much about that problem. Their will be a fix for it..

Just wait until a lifter fails once the warranty expires, $6k repair and this has been handled for years, corporations do not care about anything but profit, they’ll screw the consumer anytime it leads to profit. If your truck has fam or dfm beware. Oh, and enjoy moving a truck with a dead battery when it uses a fob, no door unlocking, no putting it in neutral, good luck. There’s a solid reason GM has such a short warranty compared to others. Buyer beware.

Scotty is even harsher on dodge than he is on chevy! Grease the front zerk on the drive shaft. Plenty of grease will fix "issue." My 2001 did the same thing. It hasn't done it again since I greased it.

I love my Toyota Tundra 2010 with 500,000 miles and nothing has gone wrong. Just tires oil brakes and a battery. I will never buy anything but Toyota ever again. I’ve never meet anyone that said they would never own another Toyota. That tells you all you need to know.

I don’t get why they haven’t brought Hilux into the states again. With American trucks the way they are, let’s be honest Ford is just as crap as GM with just a little more dignity and they’ve been that way for over a decade, There is a big hole in the US market for reliable heavy duty pick ups and also large pick ups, which Toyota doesn’t currently offer. Someone can make a new truck and make it right, you gonna get rich quick

Well you do have a point there the trucks in the 90s or anything earlier than that it’s always gonna be better because every year they put out a new truck every year there’s more electronics and more computers and the older they are technically the better they are because they’re easier to work on

I have owned for a brand new Chevy Silverado‘s my last one I put a hard running 125,000 miles on it in less than a year! Never did anything to it except change the oil did not have the transmission flushed when it should’ve been and I never had one problem with the transmission ended up selling the thing for almost what I put in for it! Carmax gave me $28,000 the total price was $34,000 from Carter Chevrolet not a bad gig! My new truck I just purchased which is a 2021 baby Duramax is running great and I already have 2200 miles on it and averaging 26 to 33 miles a gallon. So watching these videos scare the shit out of me but my own past record with Chevy has been great!

Same issue. 2019 and been to the dealer 4 times for transmission slamming into gear. Usually when cold, hit the gas, no go, then transmission drops into gear (usually before I can tell and lift off the gas) so I chirp the tires. Also slams into gear when slowing to stop randomly. Dealer can't/won't figure it out. Last time they said it was a loose leaf spring bolt. Ridiculous. As I was driving out of the dealer I got my "slamming into gear" shake literally in the parking lot. Again, sporadic and usually when cold. Won't buy GM again and been a GM guy for a long time.

I put do not recommend Scotty Kilmer channel. Why because my 2013 Chevy Impala has over 225,000 miles on it and my 2016 Chevy Silverado has 130,000 miles on it. Both Vehicles just need basic maintenance like oil change, spark plugs and battery change.

He's over the top that being said he goes of reliability reports which is true right now toyota and porche are very reliable and gm and Ford are low on the list still majority of people aren't going have problems but more gm and Ford vehicles are going be in a shop then Toyota or porche that being said it's still a probability game depends how lucky you are could buy a lemon or not

Totally agree. I have almost 120,000 miles on my 2011 GMC Sierra with the 5.3L V8 and zero problems. @ScottyKilmer just has clickbait videos and only talks about rare unreliable trucks from the majority that have no problems. Of course there are always some bad trucks going off the assembly line but most of them are fine

I have a 2017 with the 6 speed. There is an occasional delay when switching from park or reverse to first gear. Will shuddder. Not rear end but transmission related. Normal for these. I learned not to hit the gas for a few seconds on engaging drive. No other problems
