Thanks so much for the kind words Brian. I LOVE what you did on the track...such a killer lesson!!! The Clapton vibe hadn't even occurred to me, but it's totally true. Grew up listening to him sooo much. Anyway, thanks man - it's always SO inspiring to hear your soulful playing!!! 🎸

You do have to listen for sure.... But it's so much harder than just that. Have to learn the scales and the root notes, work on your vibrato and tone, and be able to inject some melody, drama, emotion, and structure into solos. And also know when to not play a note It's not easy at all. In some ways it's harder than what shredders do. They just go back and forth with a million notes a minute. I've seen so many of them do it without really thinking or feeling anything.

Quist is ridiculously skilled. But we all have to work on our strengths and not try to be someone else. I would love to play like Carlos Santana but it's just not how my playing comes out. I just wish I could find someone to jam with who's similar to my level. Just not happening in my area.

Another great lesson! The guitar is not necessarily my taste, but as you know, you can't argue about taste. Everyone has to decide for themselves what they like and the "audience" has to accept that. I also have a problem with the Helix. I stopped using my own "Mini-Helix" because the settings were too complicated for me and I could never get a sound that I liked. Your previous recordings with the Kemper gave me a more natural sound. One last question: Is there a particular reason why you have all your Strats equipped exclusively with single coil pick ups instead of combined humbucker? Otherwise, I look forward to your creative and valuable lessons every week.

  • @activemelody

i guess i just take Strats as they come - which is typically just a single coil pickup - I do have a Danocaster Tele style that has a humbucker and a P-90 which I love.

@@activemelody so it is. I thin I often hear presenters saying "in A pentatonic" and not stipulating A minor or A major. The A major pattern you were playing I believe is mostly played as a minor pattern 1.. but can be played as a major pattern with pinky on root. So im learning there are no major or minor patterns....play them in different spots get diff results.
