In case anyone missed it, the one in red was trying to pass from too far inside. There was incidental contact, then the one in blue sent his hand out to assert his space. Then the one in red stayed inside and pushed (accidentally?) the one in blue in the back. I'd DQ the one in red, the passer has the obligation to avoid impact. All contact occurred with both runners in lane 1. It's hard to argue intentional blocking when the passer failed to leave lane 1. The one in blue has no obligation to give up his lane to be passed. If the one in red had moved into lane 2 to pass there would have been no contact. However, these are kids and this is a learning experience.

So many people have no clue what they are talking about. Red needed to give more room, especially on a short track, you can't bust into someone like that. Just before blue's elbow came out, red brushed him TWICE, at that speed, on a curve, causing blue to go off center. The arm kicking out was an involuntary movement in order to try and maintain balance. As a runner behind the lead, you have a responsibility to be in a different lane when you try to pass, it appears he was trying to run THROUGH him, that doesn't even make sense. They are both young, they'll both learn. One has to wonder if blue thought the finish line was earlier? Very strange to have stopped like that. It was lucky that red was not DQ'ed.

@@joeadrian2860 Newman MAY have been a bit close but they are very young, half a land should be more than enough passing space for courteous competitors. Gonzales first initiated the contact, if you look closely you can even see him swerve to his right to further block Newman’s passing attempt. If you are unable to pick that out look at blue’s position after the shove; they were coming right out of a turn so if Gonzales was racing normally he would have been tight on the left side of the lane, and it looks like he is before Newman catches up, in reality he’s closer to the right… because he tried to block. Now it does look like Newman lashed out in retaliation which, although understandable, is unprofessional.
