@@The_PikaboiWe’ve been screwed by the rules for getting to Worlds for as long as I can remember so this really isn’t anything new for us.

Good news: You can't bubble out of Top Cut Bad news: You CAN bubble out of your worlds invite
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like this new ruleset stunts the growth of the game. But I guess their goal is to make it more competitive.

Making it more competitive is not the goal. The goal is purely logistical: worlds last year was a nightmare, and worlds this year is probably going to be a logistical nightmare, in large part because TPCi doesn't/can't organize events for the amount of people who've been coming to worlds. This decision is made to reduce attendees to Worlds, nothing more or less.

I think this change will make the events feel less accessible to newer players and stunt how much the game has been growing.

Hot take, but I actually don’t think that’s gonna happen, because the changes affect veteran players who have a shot at worlds and can afford to go big events than newer players looking to get into Pokémon anyways. I think it will cause veteran players to drop off, but I actually don’t think a lot of new players will drop competitive because of this.

@@Endershock1678 I mean maybe but I am a newer player. Not to vgc but going to events and the only time I went to an event without the intention of going to worlds was the first one because the goal was to see if I would have enough fun. Once I got over the first time jitters I decided that I wanted to make a push. So maybe I am applying bias through my own perspective but to me that is how it feels cause I am definitely not making worlds next year if I can't afford multiple international flights and only top 75 make it.
This is gonna be aggressive for people trying to get their Worlds Invite. I have to try REALLY hard
Wait this sucks Saturday I'll finally get out of high school and I was already planning to find a job to do while university to afford a couple tournaments abroad and try to qualify for worlds and this ruins everything, because I don't have THAT much time to get top 50 smth in europe which is stacked out the whazoo. Don't tell me my dream dies exactly when it seemed possible
New Orleans local here: i had so much fun an NAIC this year that I've been trying to do some grassroots organizing to get a local VGC scene up and going in the city (because believe it or not, the nearest place that does vgc events as of now is over an hour away). I've been ommunicating with other Louisiana players and talking with my local game store and everything because I want to try competing more this year so I can improve on how I did at NAIC2024. But thses changes make me feel discouraged, because I've seen a few of the more dedicated Louisiana players talking about just not participating as a form of protest, because they know they won't be able to make top 75... Idk, I've been so excited for the 2025 season and now it feels like I'm a year too late to really cultivate or even be part of the local VGC community because it's so tiny at it was. I hope tPCI hears the concerns from the player base.
TPCI trying to make a new worlds quals format and they decide “actually the current system is too skill based we need make it an even bigger wallet check”
I know nothing and haven’t watched the video but I agree and I am super angry
Limiting your international placements to six is so redundant. Even if they add Asia, Africa, and Oceania you still can't go over it. _Unless..._ Antarctica Internationals confirmed???

I’m excited because I’m from Baltimore, so happy to at least give the vgc scene a try. But traveling will be a huge problem for me. But if Moxie goes I would love to meet you.
At what point should a multi-billion dollar company just build their own locations meant to support excessively large crowds for the super events on the scale of worlds.
@loura246

Or just book larger venues! It's not like they don't exist
@AjeethRajesh
13 күн бұрын
They don’t need to build venues lmao. Look at Dota 2 and the International, which is the equivalent of Worlds. It’s a much bigger tournament and has been organised without any issues for 13 years now.
It really sucks that so many people won’t get to experience competing on the grand stage. Personally I think this should open the door to grassroots making a big leap. The game has such a tremendous skill, and it should absolutely be rewarded. I’d also say it’s time for payouts to ramp up, and major sponsors will do that better than TPC.
As someone who has literally no local scene, this tilts me endlessly
This is a really good change for those who play full time or have the money and time to compete. However it is not accessible at all for new players, essentially taking away the concrete goal of 500 points and rewarding people who have the means to attend multiple events. ;'(
Very hot take, I think if they do this they need to actually give a shit about hacking. I understand they want to limit the amount of people at worlds, but I think the time save is kind of a big deal now. Not to mention if top players are hacking monsters and breaking the rules, I think this is all the more reason to crack down. If they’re going to make it a money thing they should also make it a time investment thing too

Awesome, competitive pokemon now costs 1 billion dollars instead of 1 million 😊
Its a bit of a bummer for me. Im in NZ so travel to even my regions regional champs is an expense even for a weekend. Let alone an IC in another hemisphere.
I had considered getting back into comp Pokémon since 2016 was the last time my friends and I played, but I think I’ll continue to torture myself in other games instead.
The highest grossing multimedia company in the world can’t give a big enough shit to make what is one of the most popular competitive franchises have enough care and money to make their events work.
Would you say that it's worth just doing locals to win card packs and hopefully pull some good chase cards and make money that way?

Moxie is upset about BO1s being the norm in his area, my issue is that in Washington State it's for some reason around me inconsistent if there's ANYTHING VGC wise or Yu-Gi-Oh wise going on. So that's two of my hobbies that aren't as plentiful for me, and for Pokemon I'd HAVE to go to Seattle which is like an hour drive, and I don't drive
just gotta win an event to qualify i guess
BRAZIL MENTIONED!!!
By making money more and more of an advantage, I could see it creating a more toxic competitive environment, mainly because of the ability to lose your world's invite. The idea you can lose something you've earned is incredibly stupid in my opinion. Essentially means you can't have confidence unless you've already got like top 10 even that you'll make it to worlds, which while the closer it gets the less stress if you're already really high, being top 60 and then losing a world's invite is stupid. It creates a prolonged stressful season
Only somewhat relevant to the video, but what advice do you all have for someone thinking about getting into vgc?
I got it, i completely understand how frustrating it is, but from a viewer perspective its going to be more interesting bc everyone wants to qualify
this kinda stuff is the reason why i'm not interested in playing vgc. i play singles but vgc is really interesting to me, so i'd definitely be interested in learning to play it properly, but there's literally no point since my financial situation would never allow me to compete. i'm not a world class competitor by any means, i just ladder, but i know that whenever i feel confident enough in my abilities i'll very easily be able to start playing singles tournaments since there's no travel, no cost and i can even schedule my own matches. more than the practical aspect it's just painfully obvious that tpc doesn't care about their players or vgc in general, at best vgc is a small but consistent source of interest for the franchise that tpc wants to maintain with the least effort and money possible. they don't care about fairness, fun, or competitive health, they only care about profits. why would i want to dedicate so much of my time, effort and money to participate in something where the organisers value me less than a penny they find on the floor? not only is it likely they'll get rid of vgc at some point it's just insulting to the players, and this new season structure is only the icing on the cake after years of bs like ridiculous power creep, completely unhealthy mons that make the gameplay miserable, lazy rng implementation that ruins a lot of matches, genuinely terrible quality games, overpriced dlcs with the strongest mons, and their stubborn refusal to make building competitive teams accessible. if i didn't know better then i'd say everything about that is deliberately designed to p*ss me off
As a Canadian, Toronto isn’t that cool. Also we don’t pronounce the second t 😂
Dont americans need a visa to visit Brazil. Can't even show up and play lol

The goal is to find the best VGC player in the world. Do you really think #211 to qualify this year, with 0 wins and 0 top cuts, who farmed local events to hit the arbitrary CP goal deserves his shot as the BEST player in the WORLD?
