Maintenance of Way, Track Geometry & Blown Turbos!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
April 14 was an eventful day. We had gotten word about a track geometry train coming down from Hanover, PA into Baltimore. So to get out of the house and "break quarantine" as our engineer friend Dave says, we decided to go to Westport, just outside of Baltimore city to catch it next to a vintage Baltimore and Ohio CPL signal. The signal has very recently been marked for removal, as when the welded rail train in this video was filmed on March 22, the orange spray paint was not there. Before catching the geometry train, we saw a truck pushing a string of gondolas picking up old ties. After the geometry train when we went to catch it again, local train Y134 came out of Locust Point with a GP40-3 leading, which ultimately ended up blowing its turbo.

I have spent lots of time sitting next to the tracks and just watching as the trains go by. When My son was a baby, I [we!] had a great time watching trains as they came by, and teaching him where our food [and toys, yep, he was a baby!!!] come from. And "Wave" Wave as the Noisy Ones come by, there are men in those, they will wave back AND blow a whistle. One of my best memories of My Boy And I.
The most important thing about the locomotive is probably the horn. ;-)
Good job as usual
Great catch!
Keep up the great videos
It's hard to picture that as a Marc engine now
Does it look like we care if we are braking qurintine
The engineer just gave both of those girls the spurs. They were probably due for a healthy full throttle clean out. Good catch 👍🏻
The horn on the Geometry Car sounded better than the horn on the ex-MARC Geep.
That cab reminds me of the cab on the DDA40X
Awesome Video 🍃🍃🇮🇳🍃🍃
Lol i thought that was a GP60M and i was like *wait what?* funny engineer to. That was a cool RS5T in the GP40-3!
Great Video Looks like they are spending some Money on that Line fore sure.
Nice "smoke show" 🤣

Bad, but not bad enough to be a blown turbo, and it cleared up once he got round the corner. Just clearing its throat.

@@SteamboatWilley what is there happening then? is the exhaust dirty or something and burns free?

@@jonassonbacon3388 what you will often find, particular with older diesels, is that it takes a while for the turbo to spoil up, so when the engine is accelerating there can be a bit of smoke as the turbo catches up with the engine. Insufficient air for combustion=black smoke. See also: British Rail Class 37.

@@SteamboatWilley alright thank you for explaining. Yea i have seen videos of the Class 37 smoking hard.
What was with the geometry train driver?
I'm curious. At what time mark are the "blown turbos?"

Railfan Central Don’t waste time, it’s about to be taken down.
What does a track geometry car do?
That first frieght train with the freight cars that’s the remodel of crazy 8s or 8888
what is that car use for
That looks like Jersey City or Secaucus.
You should ask them to donate the signal
Was Dave Witty the engineer when the geometry train was going from Hagerstown to Hanover?

No, just Hanover to Baltimore. It was a Hagerstown crew from Hagersburg to Hanoverburg.

That smoke at the first was a joke👹👹👹👹👹👹👹😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠
Ok ??? what is that ??? a SD45 on GP trucks LOL with a wide cab Is it safe to call that a wide cab GP45 LMAO
Did that driver give you the finger? Oh dear. And he's right, you shouldn't be out filming at this time. Fair enough if you happen to take your daily exercise alongside the railway and time it so there's a train to film, no problem, but it looks as if you have driven to the location and are hanging out wit friends. Also, in that particular shot it looks like you're standing the wrong side of the barrier. Sorry, but it's a thumbs down from me.

Thumbs down this overly critical comment 👎

SteamboatWilley The crossing I was standing at is a one way street. There IS no barrier on that side. Also, the engineer is a good friend of mine and did not flip me off. You can see him smile and wave after I pan the camera.

@@CrossbuckProductions So it was just a bit of banter between friends. Fair enough.

What is wrong with standing and watching trains? Covid-19 is not transmittable out doors if you are not in proximity of another person by 3 or more feet. Plate [C] ©
