I love the way the Principal Timpanist looks out over his fellow musicians when playing important solo parts

You sometimes wonder how Mahler could have conceived of a work this immense and still pulled it off. Everyone goes home tired...a good tired.

OMG so many times I have heard this.................and still the last movement brings tears to my eyes !

I've heard online at least 50 times. The Resurrection stands above all others! The first time I heard it (I'm a very late comer to classical music) I wept. It was a spiritual experience.

All credit goes to Alan Gilbert from making the transition from rank and file violinist to a very accomplished conductor BRAVO

What a unique combination of orchestra culture + attentive and sensitive maestro, and the result is Mahler the way we would love his ingenuity interpreted.

Just an increadible performance! The video recording is also magnific, always bringing into focus key instruments that are playing at each moment. I just love Mahler's symphonies, but the second is my favorite, and this performance is lovely great!

The most intense and sublime music I've ever heard. Mahler is an emotion maker.

There is no doubt that Orchestras from Germany are always at the forefront when it comes to musical masterpieces. Thank you so much NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester for giving us the opportunity to enjoy the great symphony.

Il y a 40 ans que j'écoute cette symphonie qui est ma préférée de Mahler mais cette version est au dessus de toutes..la façon dont le chef laisse respirer la musique et la précision des musiciens...je suis soufflé ! Et les poils qui se hérissent...ce qui devient plus rare à 60 ans...merci!

Well NDR Klassik you've done it again. I have always loved the music of Bruckner,and the Wand/NDR performances of this composer have certainly contributed to that love, but I have never been drawn to Mahler's music...until I came across this video. I found the music and performance compelling and the finale in particular quite moving. I am stunned. Thanks NDR Klassik!!

Without a doubt, this is one of the VERY BEST performances I have seen on KZread, and I've seen a lot of them, this being my favourite Mahler symphony. Choristers and soloists sans scores - wonderful to see! And real bells instead of the tubular variety. Sublime!

Der intelligente und geniale US-amerikanische Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete deutsche Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Alles ist wunderbar!

wow, this isdefinitelyy one of the best Mahler 2interpretations i have ever heard. Maybe is the best to follow the score (cause Bernstein just ignores the accelerando) the overall piece is also conducted really well and i just like his intertperations and the orchestra did NOT fall short. Bravo!

Cuando una orquesta interpreta esta obra, todos los músicos están super motivados y las interpretaciones son magistrales. Lo más importante es que el intérprete emocioné al espectador. Gilbert lo consigue. Interpretación muy buena y muy original.

A good upload. Mahler's music demands strong percussion and forward horns so why did the engineers think is wise to keep the microphones away from them? Impact is lost. Sad.

I have praised, and critiqued, many live performances of M2 on KZread, and I stand by them all. That said, and with tremendous respect to Mr. Gilbert, the only way that this performance could possibly have been improved upon is if I had conducted it myself. ⬇↩↪⬆
