Mahindra XUV700 AX7 L Extended Test Full Review

After securing 1100 pre-orders in just 2 weeks, it's obvious that the buying public can see the value proposition of the all new XUV700. Add in the fact that there is a 12-18 month waiting list for this car in India and the facts speak for themselves.
Having experienced the car briefly at the 2 launch events, 3 weeks living with the top spec AX7 L model simply endorse our first positive impressions. Taking the pricing into consideration, it truly is targeted as a "market disruptor".
The 2 L petrol turbo engine delivers 149kW and a massive, diesel like, 380Nm of torque to the front wheels through a 6 speed torque convertor automatic transmission. In general driving, the type that really suits this family car, it's smooth and comfortable and there's always enough available under your right foot for overtaking situations.
Fuel economy varies between under 7l/100km in freeway cruising to higher in commuting duty but should deliver an average of between 8-9l/100km overall in the long term. This is quite acceptable for a car that can accommodate 7 when needed.
Although the range starts with "base" 5 seater version, all are well specced. In the top model the massive panoramic roof (on all versions) was spoiled by the roof racks on the test car. To explain, these create a whistling noise at freeway speeds which is far worse when the roof blind is opened and unbearable (to me) when the sunroof section is opened. Simple solution is to not fit these roof racks UNLESS you are using them.
The light cream coloured interior looks superb although many may question the practicality in the long term. I like it. The infotainment screen offers wireless Android Auto that connects quickly and easily plus inductive charging. The top model adds items like adaptive cruise control and auto emergency braking. My favourite feature is the blind spot mirrors activated by the indicators that show a clear camera view in the centre of the driver's digital display.
Another feature that you do not expect at this pricing point is the comfort access on the powered driver's seat that also has memory function.
Dual-zone airconditioning with adjustable vents for the 3rd row seats are a bonus. Speaking of the 3rd row, the middle seat folds and tips in 1 movement allowing easy entry and egress. I will say that these extra seats are best suited to youngsters and not adults. Typically, using the 3rd row leaves virtually no luggage space, our test car had a removable tow bar fitted for such circumstances.
My biggest gripe, and this applies to practically every car fitted with stop-start technology, is that you have to turn this off every time you start the car. I intensely dislike this technology and would prefer to be able to cancel it permanently.
With pricing from R474 900 for the AX5 to R559 900 as tested, the XUV700 offers an amazing package for the money. Add in a 5 year/ 100 000km service plan and a 5 year/ 150 000km warranty as well.

when product is good for Indian roads.. you can trust that product avery where in the world ...
Indian cars have to be reliable and made to run.. Even the manufactor making full effort to correct the product during lifespan. Defenetly better engineered than Chinese cars

Defenetly better engineered than Chinese cars....definitively far better than the Chinese craps
ADRENOX is the next gen wireless tech which enable user to give command like sun roof open/close, play particular music, open map, etc
Great review just ordered c5 a 1.5 diesel after three yrs with citroën berlingo 1.5 d not as much sun here in northern ireland as you have there

Great reviews my brother. But your mic is not audible. I have to crank the volume really high, whether I’m watching on my TV , smartphone or Ipad. I think if you could replace the mic , the quality would even be better.

What's the waiting time over there ? Here in India, it takes more than one year to get it after booking.

It depends on your phone model. my older android phone it didn't connect well with the android auto, just basic functions like normal Bluetooth connection. In a newer android phone it connects perfectly with all the apps and maps showing. You just have to connect it through Bluetooth and it will do the rest.
Beat decision to buy this also review Tata cars like Harrier and Safari

Its underpowered. 2.2L Diesel engine produces around 185HP Takes 9.99ish secs to sprint to 100kmph.

It’s actually the safest car you’ll get in its segment… it’s equivalent to Mercedes. Here in India a crash was there and nothing happened just got scratches on it and Mercedes got dents

Jeez the side mirror whistle noise is loud and present, that's a problem

The whistle noise is from the roof-racks that were fitted on the test car and not the side mirrors. As I state in the video, I would not fit these unless they were really needed
