I served onboard Springfield from 2001 thru 2003 and did one Med Run. Then it was off to Sonar "C" school. She was my second Boat and one of the best crews I had the honor of serving with!

Thanks for the "attaboy" I just love watching the subs come. That is the local veterans doing the gun salute.

Great video. My old home town. Better than TV. My dad worked for EB from the Nautilus project up until 1968. Seeing the river and bridges, and a sub, again is real nostalgia. Beautiful show and great seven-gun salute by the cannon crew, thanks.

That Navy gun boat when they shot the canon got a little scare. You can almost see the guy driving the boat jump and start driving in circles lol. cool stuff, God bless our Veterans

Learn how to shoot video without moving the silly camera like a drunk. It makes the viewer dizzy.

I was on an outbound ferry out the harbor and I might have seen this sub coming in the other day. Same setup but with navy boats. Awesome video none the less.

Jeeez... we never got such a welcome on my boat. But back during the Cold War, nobody really gave a sh!t about us anyway.

My friend, am sure people cared for you and all submariners... But the people that are saluting here, are veterans. People like you.. The veterans of the past are saluting the veterans of today, none of them were ever saluted either. But now is the chance for you to show respect to all submarines.. Look into joining a Submarine Sholder Sailor Club? This SALUTE is for YOU.. From your old shipmates... Thank you for your service...

I was new at it.. I was late, Was running, Had an umbrella in the other hand.. I have come a long way, have my wings now... may be shit, but they say anyway to get attention from a picture is ok.. Had it been perfect, you would NOT have said, "great job"...

man oh man, look at those guys standing topside in their dress whites, getting brought home by a cannon. fancy fancy. got to be honest with you, I'm kind of glad the line handlers didn't have to wear their dress whites on my boat. the cat is awesome, but it probably would have scared the crap out of the Marines on Delta Pier.

cannon, not cat. also, those Sub Vets are awesome gentleman. I had a chance to talk to a group of them while in C school down in Georgia.

You know i have to like the video, I always salute any vet and active ship or aircraft, but there is one complaint with your camera skills. You make me sea sick with all the camera movement. Either use a tripod or at least quit sweeping the camera around and up and down. Makes my stomach feel like I am in a North Atlantic storm on a small tin can.

They really don't "shoot that cannon AT the submarine." lol

I am surprised that they are allowed to shoot that cannon when the sub comes through. Having watched numerous boomers transiting Hood Canal, I know that you could never get away with that there.
