Magura MT5e switch modification
Bafangs work with NC (normally closed) switch, if you got a NO(Normally open), you can try this to change it to NC. Worked fine 2 times for me ^^
Sorry about the shitty accent and poor editing, just wanted to share something useful, not make a blockbuster ^^
Magura's video on how to remove brake levers : • MAGURA MT: Changing Br...
Modify the connector to connect to bafang : • Magura MT5e Hydraulic ...
If the switch doesn't feel as "clicky" as before, the blue and black wires running around the switch are probably not well positioned. So reopen the brake lever and reposition them.

Thanks, Charles, for the tips. I bought a Magura MT5 NC to connect with a Bafang M620. From your description, it should have worked fine however I needed to reverse the switch as you did ☺. Works fine
Thanks Charles, this actually works ! bravo
Thank you Big Boss! This just fixed my problem and saved my life! Love U!
Great job! Appreciate the information, keep up the good vids! 🤘
Thanks Charles saved me having to buy a new one :)

Happy to help ^^ Is it working correctly? (Just to know if it's 100% reliable)
You absolute Donn 👊🏽 thank you

Happy to help ^^
Is that hot glue or silicon (can I melt it with a heat gun)?
can u install this mt5e stop break lever with switch onto the mt7 pro?
Hi people. It will save you some trouble if you order the right brake to begin with. There are two versions. NO and NC. Normally open, or normally closed. I’m ordering NO for my Bafang BBSHD. And I guess that makes sense...Like if you don’t use the brake cut off’s, the circuit is open. And if I’m wrong, I’ve got this video to fix it. 😅

Also, I’ve only seen one store on line that lets you select no or nc...
Does that switch activate immediately when pressing the brake or it has a bit of tolerance to it? I prefer a bit of tolerance for light braking and motor cutoff when braking more strongly.

The switch will certainly activate before you can put any pressure on the brake. The brake lever is actually 2 levers, one to press on the brake itself, and one pressing on the switch. The lever for the switch requires way less force to pull than the lever brake, so it will be pulled first and therefore activate the switch.
Nice tutorial. Would a replacement MT5e lever fit and function properly in a MT5 housing/master cylinder unit?

I'm definitely intersted in if this working out, I have MT5's and need a brake light switch added to them.

Are this not the same housings?
my magura brake is the open type and doesn't work on my ebike. You have to pull the brake lever to start the motor which is the wrong way round. If I use a closed type would this solve my issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

It should solve your issue. Changing from closed to open or vice-versa just inverse the behavior of the brake lever (electronic wise). Open type opens the circuit when the lever is pulled. With what you said, we can assume your motor only starts when the circuit is open. If you change the lever to a closed type, the circuit is open when the lever isn't pulled, and your motor should run, but when you hit the brakes, it should stop, thus working as expected. To change the type (open to closed In your case), just follow this video if you have the same brake lever. If you have a different model, it's worth trying something similar. All ebike brake levers work the same. Good luck ^^
I just ordered the magura mt5e brakes and wanted to know will it work right out the box with the bafang BBSHD motor or will I need to do this modification ?

Hey I'm wondering the same thing right now, did you have to do the modification?
What was wrong with the layout of switch from the factory?

factory layout is a circuit breaker to turn something OFF like a motor. Changing its "state" allows us to activate something like a break light

It's not wired directly to the motor but to the ESC (the wires are way to thin to power the motor, they would overheat). Almost all E-bike ESC have a "brake button" like this. Depending on the ESC, it will stop powering the motor if the circuit is open/closed. However, if it has the option built-in, it will also power the brake lights when the lever is pulled. The factory layout isn't wrong. I just ordered the wrong lever... got a Magura MT5e kit for my ebike without knowing what type of lever my ESC needed and found out I got the wrong one. 1/2 chances I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
