Hikaru’s defensive abilities are absolutely incomprehensible. He can win positions that literally every other person on earth (except Magnus) would lose.

I really like Agadmator for his strategic analysis and how he explores all the lines, but Levy has amazing commentating skills that make you feel the tension of the match. He brings that emotional connection

It was like watching a Bullet Train in real time. Impossible to follow unless you're a super-Blitz GM. Kudos to Gotham for showing the game in semi-slow speed, so we can appreciate the critical moves in the match.

@@fatshibaballs These bullet matches were 1+0 meaning each side has 1 minute with no increment. It wouldn't matter who was playing, the amount of games possible would be the same.
Magnus after loosing one pawn: its over... i resign Me after loosing my queen, two rooks, 8 pawns, 2 bishops, 2 knights and a king: this is fine

I cannot imagine the nerves of both players at all points of the match, but especially towards the end. Also, props to Hikaru for not only winning, but also not slow-rolling Magnus after he was 5 points up.
Hikaru sacrificing the knight to create space to block the pass pawn was masterful. The game in which he went up 15/14
I dont understand how these guys can just throw crazy tactics after only using 1 second and still end up in equal positions

That's the whole point of a final between the elite of chess. BTW, on Bullet, this was the absolute best tournament ever and therefore the best final ever. I dare you to name one bullet final that can compete with this beautiful set of games.

Thanks Levy- illuminating and insightful commentary. I didn't think anything outside of years of hard work would make sense of the game at this level, but you made it engaging and educational. For chess it is like the golden age of American Football, say 1983-1993 when you had these world-class commentators, these rivalries. Hikaru/Magnus is kind of like Washington/Dallas, Theissman vs. Staubach. But this is way better I don't even watch football now.
Great video! Wish you were also able to cover the Hikaru v. Alireza game though, that was probably the most stressful chess match I'd ever seen. I don't think I'd seen a more satisfying win for Hikaru ever. Great final match with Magnus though, what a great tournament.

this was an excellent tournament, the players in the late rounds were playing out of this world, Magnus and Hikaru did Magnus and Hikaru things, and the final somehow topped everything

8:44 - Actually, You probably know this, but for anyone who doesn't, Stockfish does not know any theory so Hikaru does know the modern defense better than Stockfish.

Stockfish plays the best move. Theory is humans trying to find the best move. Therefore stockfish will play human theory, until human theory won’t match with stockfish because it’s defective.
