Lex Friedman invited him on his podcast. Magnus said in another Norwegian podcast that he would feel too stupid talking to Lex, since alot is focused around AI and computers and magnus doesnt know about that stuff. He said he'd love to come on Joe Rogans podcast tho

@@krisselv I live in California so Norwegian wouldn't get me as far as Spanish, which I'm still trying to master! But no doubt Norwegian is beautiful.

thank you so much for the interview. So eye opening. I used to use alcohol. But Theanine in black tea really increases the calmness. I think GMs Nepo and Karpov used tea a lot. I stay away from alcohol because in large amounts it causes memory problems and liver problems. Not to mention dyspepsia and it's correlation with some cancers. Magnus raves and talks about alcohol, but really, he doesn't drink that much and I would quantify his alcohol intake during blitz games on Lichess as 1 large can an hour. Just enough to be tipsy and have elevated mood. Nowhere near the amounts Steinitz or Beth Harmon consumed in the Queen's gambit series which will cause health problems. This is bad for people with addictive personalities who can't get enough of a drug. So I would caution against alcohol and stick to tea for calming and focus effects. Theanine is also synergistic with caffeine as it stretches the effect of caffeine but if you are the anxious type, better to stick to tea alone. Caffeine is great to add if you are sleepy and understimulated.

This is very interesting, especially the part around 1:03:35 in relation to the Hans Niemann scandal. Fabiano Caruana confirmed that Magnus knew about Hans cheating before the tournament. Maybe that information alone could have influenced his decision to withdraw. "(...) but ultimately in the tournaments I play, it won't work if you don't trust your opponent". I know he was mainly talking about online chess, but I feel like it wouldn't be completely wrong to speculate, that the combination of seeing Hans play so good against him (in classical chess) and knowing that he cheated in the past just made him so uneasy or unsure, that he felt like Hans cheated again. But that's just a theory, and nobody really knows why Magnus did what he did (yet?). I also really don't like to speculate, I just hope this whole story clears itself up eventually.

I want a part 2 already!!!

Great interview. Thanks for subtitles. Magnus is the true champion, dominating not only classical chess but rapid and blitz controls as well. He won 5 or 6 blitz championships and has a whopping 2892 FIDE rating in blitz despite some people trying to belittle his play in blitz controls due to online tournaments where cheating may be rampant even at the top contrary to popular belief.

Just an idea, maybe this is already ongoing: I suggest a new Documentary on Carlsen´s life and achievements, I feel it could be much much more interesting than the one already published, as the second part was pretty boring, only focused on the world championship match in Chennai. Maybe more attractive could be more anecdotes, images on the board and off the board, related to his life and some of the many many events he has taken part in, including rapid & blitz events.

They should be filming a candid behind the scenes look at his Championship preparation, life and career in a series of several episodes or parts and release them in succession or as a documentary. Magnus would probably hate the idea but I do feel it's important in this day and age to document the real life of living legends while we have the chance. And I think Magnus is one of the greats.

Nah, I think that's a subtitle thing. There's a lot of redundancy and unnecessary words and phrases in spoken words that subtitlers cut out to fit it all neatly into two lines instead of blitzing it on. Norwegian is probably pretty similar to English in speed, since it's close linguistically.

Also, Magnus speaks slowly. He umms a lot, and repeats words. Other Norwegians can speak very quickly, the interviewer himself being a good example.
