    Magnus has dominated the chess world for more than a decade. To the point where he was so uninterested in the classical title that he gave it up. He’s been advocating for classical fisher random for a couple of years. It’s exciting and interesting for the players. This was Bobby Fisher’s vision. He was frustrated that chess had become such a game of memory and preparation and he grew to hate the game because of it. It’s too bad he’s not around to see it coming to light. It’s fun to see players like Magnus and Levon so excited to play again. They love the struggle.

    I think Ding is having a rough tournament because of a few reasons: 1) he probably isn’t as experienced with Fisher Random 2) he’s still very rusty after taking a long break 3) he doesn’t want to reveal any major prep for the WCC later in the year. Still a major shock he’s doing this badly, but I think he’s taken this invite not to win - but to regain some experience with chess at the highest level

    This is so much more exciting than regular chess! With Magnus endorsing this, I hope chess 960 will become more widespread. This also proves time controls are not the problem. It's memorization and recognition of positions that kills the fun: It makes the players too perfect (especially in the opening) and leaves them with too much time for the non-memorized moves. If the players think on their own from move 1, then time usage is very different.

  • @Taima

    @Taima

    And Bobby Fischer knew this soooo many years ago. Of course the rest of the world didn't want to recognize his genius and agree. Now, to be fair, there were still so few people who had reached the point of chess being "ruined" by too much perfect theory knowledge so it had to take time to get there, but yeah, it's finally happening.
