But the car wasn't created to run. The chess bot is created to play chess, so that humans can learn from it. It's the literal foundation of creating an AI. Humans can't learn how to run from a car, but we can learn how to play from this bot.

Nah, as even Magnus said, computers weren't really better than top human players at the time for Deep Blue. It took at least another decade before engines reached a league of their own. IBM made Deep Blue specifically to beat Kasparov and fed it lots of his games, but they didn't keep up their end of the deal and let him have time to study its games. Even so he could have beaten it, but the psychological aspects of it got to him, and they refused a rematch.

I would gather perhaps it's more difficult to learn from mistakes playing an a.i. as it will always be better and unforgiving. The fatigue would be harsher and you're not able to take any moment and grow from it because you can't see improvements against such an opponent. Playing someone on your level is a better experience to learn from, because it can be more forgiving. Even if you were to play someone far above you, as long as they intend to teach, you can learn a lot more from the loss.

i feel like somewhere reaching and right after the 2 minute mark, it is for certain the computer calculations are based on not being able to come with anything actually optimal. the game specifically gets weirder after 2:43, either player can just start pushing any pawn they want, and then all of the sudden the computer just calculates weird piece movements. at 3:03 it seems like literally anything can be a good play from magnus's pov. and then after finally choosing the pawn positions they did, the computer just somehow calculates the movement at 3:49 of capturing bpawn with wpawn at e5 from f4, after magnus moves brook to a8 blocking wpawn at a7. what if magnus just decides before 3:03 after 3:00 to take the wpawn at c5 with bbishop from d4, sure he leaves the e5 bpawn to be taken by the wrook at e6, but what if thats not what happens, and even if it does, theres still a ton of options. he would be winning with pawns, has better positioning, and still has all pieces. where as instead, he ends up sacrificing a rook for bishop for a game of bishop rook vs 2 rooks. and most of all each player worrying about pawns still, not just forcing the computer to worry about the black pawn while magnus can take out, block, or not care about the white pawn in various ways. even in the very end, instead of resigning, he still has ways to force a bishop vs rook game.

I think that you can write code to iterate through all oppoenent's possible moves (there are not as many as you'd think, especially in mid-late game) then iterate through all your possible moves after and so on and so forth, creating a branching map of possible moves, discarding the branches that are losing and selecting a branch that wins. There would be trillions of combinations, but honestly, computers are good at this. Its amazing how much data they can remember, especially since this data is quite simple compared to computing graphics engines (which I have done for colision detection or mesh deformation, where there are millions of vertices to move and keep track of)

My favorite chess game was one recently with my sister where I did the fastest possible win I knew by doing pawn from e2 to e4 to open a path for my bishop (I might be getting the places wrong I can’t remember I’m going as if bishops are next to king and queen) and I did pawn from c2 to c3 to make a diagonal path for my queen and then I moved my queen to I think b3 and moved until bishop was on c4 (so queen was protecting it) and then I moved bishop to f7 where the queen was protecting it and I had my sister’s king in checkmate because the whole time she was using her knights to knock out my pawns thinking she was winning but I won in I think 5 turns.

@@thelolmaster1997 I agree Carlsen would probably win, but it would be much closer than you think. Morphy is outdated, but he is still incredibly strong. He was so far ahead of his competition that he would often give pawn odds or even knight odds to his opponents in tournaments just to make it more competitive. Today, grandmasters win games even against Stockfish with pawn odds, so it signals that Morphy could have a chance of beating Carlsen, given just how strong he was during his time. He even ended up quitting chess because there was no real competition for him.

this reminds me of when I reviewed a game and a move I made that was a good move was ranked a mistake by the analyse bot, I was confused so I looked back and saw I had a forced mate in 45 moves. I dont think a human in the world would've seen that. Computers at their best are unbeatable

Yeah I'll second that, there's no way a human would have found a mate in 45. Computers have been designed to be insane at the game of chess, and as we can see, they're pretty good at what they do!

Is the engine used for the analysis a different rating than the 3200 engine played in the game? If not, it doesn't make sense that it would have any inaccurate moves (as shown on the analysis page at the end). Blows my mind to see these super GMs with 96%+ accuracy every game.

The analysis engine is a different engine than the computer engine, the computer engine is komodo, and the analysis engine is stockfish. Also it could be that Magnus was playing extremely well which allowed the engine to make one tiny inaccuracy.

Yes, Adam Billy is correct. I also wanted to add that the analysis engine was only searching moves up to a depth of 18, meaning that it wasn't accurately judging the Computer Level 25's moves which likely are planned based on 30 or more moves in the future.

I just have accidentially played against this level 25 3200 chess computer (actually i wantedto play against level 9 1400) and i played surprisingly well. It took the computer 25 turns to gain a serious advantage against me and i had to give up after 34 turns. Now i am confused and wonder if i could have >2000 because normally i struggle with the 1400 computer. Am i really that good or was i just lucky? I usually dont play much chess dont much chess and have no idea about the meaning of expressions like "sicilian defense, queens gambit (yes i watched the series) or the golden opening rules"

It would be one thing if you beat the engine, but since it eventually gained the advantage and won, leads me to believe that you probably aren't a prodigy. However the opposite could also be true and I don't mean to discourage you from continuing chess. Even the top chess players in the world can't beat (at least easily) the level 25 chess.com computer either. It's probably not a good measuring stick for prodigy-ness. I'd suggest that you just play 10 minute games on chess.com until you have at least 100 games played or until your rating stabilizes, whichever comes last. I wish you great luck in your chess improvement Robin!

But it would be fun to learn how to just play more like a computer. Making each move according to many possible situations and not a clear objective. In the future when person A at night goes down an alley, person B goes to the docks, and person C is intoxicated, a robot will save the correct one in danger. And you'll ask "how did it know?" The robot didn't know, it was just prepared, like a random piece on the board placed strangely.

Magnus and one of the best chess computers are definitely above my level of chess skills, but from what I understand, after Magnus takes the Level 25 computer's queen and rook on the next move (the Level 25 computer also will take Magnus' queen and rook in this trade), the position is simply better for the Level 25 computer. Because Magnus doesn't want to give his opponent this advantage, he avoids the situation.
