Pretty cool! I can see this for a display layout or to be used in one of the spots that your visitors see first. That bike set is a real neat item.

Agreed. The bicycles are super cool. I'm planning on doing up some motorcycles as well. I really like how the smaller vehicles, convertibles, bikes, etc look when moving around. It really helps with the illusion. Cheers, Kevin.

i tried faller but found the cars wouldnt follow the guide wire even after id fitted resistors to slow them down

IMHO, this system is perfect for moving cars on a highway where movement is continuous. For city traffic where you want cars to stop for railroad crossings and to merge and take different routes, the Faller system is best. Again, this is just my opinion.

Agree with your points. I also looked at the Faller Car System as well but didn't like the fact that there is a minimum size for the vehicles. That's why you see lots of buses and trucks on layouts using their system. Someone skilled enough could probably work in a computer controlled track that would speed up, slow down, start, stop, the cars using the Magnorail System. However, all the vehicles on the track would behave the same way. Cheers, Kevin

@@Modeltrains Yes, with fhe Faller system, the cars are motorized and just follow a magnetic wire embedded under the road, so it's more complex and only works with larger vehicles -- no bicycles.

Very informative video. Something I learned from a klatchco56 video: you can try glueing a tiny piece of insulation stripped from a piece of wire into the hole you drill in the underside of a vehicle. Also, if a vehicle will not go round the 180 degree curve, you can raise the front wheels until they do not actually touch the road surface.

thankyou for this video, i looked at it whilst waiting for my kit to arrive from france and it prevented me from making the same spru mistakes..... i do think the kit is way overpriced for the length of track you get but its a neat feature

Over price...☹️ they need to put more links in each set. They know dam well we don’t want a 12 in circle. I’m ordering two sets, 4 extra motors, 4 packs of links an the price tag is 456.00!

Available in the US through a company called Reynaulds. I bought the bicycle set. Slight back order wait but no other issues.

The bike riders are so cool, I love it.

hi kevin ive installed the system on my layout i too had the same problems with the track lifting out but got it sorted now took ages to sort out trying differant types of road bed i built up the area either side of the track to give me more stability on the road bed, im going to install the boats soon im going to try routeing a grove out the base board to slot the track into but good advice given cheers phil

Phil, thanks for the information. One thing I'm concerned about with routing a grove in the plywood is that the system won't be able to be accessed from underneath the layout. I figure at some point the system will need maintenance or something and I want to be able to remove it without having to rip up the scenery it is underneath. I might have the same trouble you've had once I get around to mounting it under the hardboard though. I might try mounting some wood blocks under the hardboard as well to fix the Magnorail track in place but still be accessible. Cheers, Kevin

I’ve been watching Magnorail for the last year and it’s nice to see how you show every detail to put it together. Question will this track hold a 1/43 scale car and a 1/32 scale car? Hope the price drops a little.

Heidi, I did test it with some 1/43 vehicles and they mostly worked. The 180 degrees turns are a bit tight for the larger vehicles and they came lose from the magnet some times as it tried to drag the front of the car through the turn. I didn't have any problems with them in the 90 degree turns. I didn't try any 1/32 vehicles. Cheers, Kevin

How much grade can the links handle?I know you say the transition must be smooth. How smooth? All the demos I have seen are absolutely flat. I'd like to use this system, but being able to handle grades is essential.

I'm not sure as I didn't test it to determine the maximum grade it could handle. I did set up a test track with about a 10% grade and it worked fine. There are several videos on KZread showing it going up grades. I've seen ones where it goes up and Autorack ramp, a inclined country road, and some others. The grade probably isn't as important as the weight/resistance of the vehicle it is dragging along. A free rolling vehicle will likely be able to go up a steeper grade than a non-free rolling one. Also, you may need to increase the size of the magnets if any of your cars detach while going up hill. Cheers, Kevin.

It seems to be made of 95% simple molded plastic parts. Wot's the price? 50 pence?

very cool system but fit and finish should be much better for the price, because ouch they are pricey.. probably a small company, small lots makes manufacturing prices high. i noticed they even sell them in Australia i wonder why they haven't expanded to the US

Do you think the system and magnets are strong enough to handle O scale vehicles?

Possibly but not the factory magnets. But with some larger magnets the limitation becomes the motor vs the resistance (friction) of the vehicle. If you have a free rolling O scale vehicle it might not provide any more resistance than several HO vehicles. Hope this helps. Cheers, Kevin

Hi Joe, I have recently got LEGO going using the Magnorail System which is about O gauge. Depending on the length of the track, you can always add another motor to take up the strain. Check it out at kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqmGpcGdfK-fZ5c.html - Clyde

The Faller Car system is great but requires larger vehicles to accommodate the motor and sensor. That's why so may of the Faller Cars are box trucks and semi-trucks. One of the things I like about the Magnorail system is you can use smaller vehicles, convertibles, etc even in N scale. However, with Magnorail you do have to set a fixed path for the vehicles to follow. Cheers, Kevin.
