MAGNORAIL DOES LEVEL CROSSINGS

Фильм және анимация

The Magnorail System can cross railway lines as proven by this video. Brian from Adelaide worked on the concept of a Magnorail level crossing, experimenting with Marklin, Peco, Hornby and specialist tracks resulting in the Magnorail cyclist easily negotiating a railway line along with other vehicles.

This could become the most influential Magnorail video for railway modellers. I am especially glad to see it working so well with relatively coarse wheels and track.

I am waiting to see how the Markln fraternity respond. I know Marklin Track is popular in Europe but no so much in Australia, but the work around will thempe some of hem to try.

I’ve been thinking through this problem for awhile, and glad to see someone who has experimented and put theory into action.

Brilliant work here, takes realism to another level, love all items that are animated. Surely to actually imitate BR signalling, they use insulated block joints on running rails to operate signals, so although ensuring an electrical overlap so train still runs, couldn't you use short lengths of plastic rail at the point of crossover?

Great job! I imagine I could thin down a couple of nickel silver rails with a file or grinding wheel until it could pass over. Never even considered it before but that is certainly a great thing to have seen in action to prove the concept!

This is the Magic of Magnorail - The Magicians are very creative in their use of the system. I am sure we will see more innovative uses of the Magnorail system in the future

All you have to do is cut the railroad tracks just enough for the magnetic sliders to pass through. As far as the railroad tracks, place feeders on both sides so the train won't lose any power

Thanks for your input. The problem is that the width of the channeling is 1cm which is too wide to have a cut in the rail track as it would derail carriages and locos. The trick is to reduce the track profile underneath to get as close to the channelling as possible, without losing the rail height that keeps the bogies on line.

What about anodizing a length of brass rail black and using it or the crossing section? That will still conduct, not look like brass, and not be magnetic

I saw the video that the track size is 800 x1200. Is this the motorail layer dimension of the track size? Is it possible to get an 00 gauge track into this size? That is the max size I have available and I’d rather not go down to n gauge. Thanks.

The recommended smallest radius for OO IS ABOUT 450mm but some large locos and long carriages cannot manage that. Possibly 040 tank engines would cope with 4 wheel carriages in tow. Trial and error would give you the good mix, or just do what we did with Cato Lake and go to HOe with N scale track and HO locos and carriages

@@MagnorailOz Thanks for that. I’m looking at micro 00 tracks at the moment! Just for short tank engines. I think magnorail will be too small for me to use vehicles.

Sorry - not sure what you mean by too small. Magnorail is under the road bed and the vehicles on top can be what ever size you need. The system is agnostic to what is on top and easily pulls HO scale vehicles and boats. The track can have very tight turns and even 180degree turns with the supplied kit.

@@MagnorailOz I meant too small for me to manage! I think I’ll go for 1/76 for the vehicles as they will be the main attraction, with drivers and customising, with a simple loop of 00 gauge tanker. . Bit of a hold up here in UK getting vehicle starter kit!!

Love the idea of Magnorail.. trying to figure if it would be possible to use it to model a hanging monorail..( where the car hangs under the rail supported by a side arm off the track… but I think the motor is too wide to pass Iff I did this… any ideas?

Why not incorporate the motor facility in a station on the line? That way you keep all the proportions right

@@ClydeHumphries Thanks for the reply Hiding the motor isn’t the issue.. I think I explained my problem badly. The train hangs under the rail, but is attached to the Top of the rail by a C shaped arm.. ( similar to the Wuppertal schwebahn). My problem would then be clearance of the drive wheels in the Magnorail Motor at this point ( was going to add a diagram but system won’t allow upload.. and very aware that I’ve pinched someone else’s thread… sorry)

I see the problem now, so yes I don’t think Magnorail can help unless you modify the top to be like a cantenary going direct from the train up to the Magnorail track

Could this be done with a vehicle as well?

  • @MagnorailOz

    @MagnorailOz

Even easier with a vehicle as the magnets only need to be 1 mm off the road surface and should still pick up the track magnets. They won’t catch on the rails and the wheels should flow easily over the crossing A round neodymium magnet 3-4mm diameter x what ever thickness you need to clear from the middle of the front axle to within 1 mm of the roadbed should do the trick.

Hi from Germany, unfortunately the volume of your explaination of Magnorail crossings is very bad - do see a chance for a redoing thatfor better understanding? It would be very helpful. I´m a new starter with Magnorail. Thank you at all for this video 🙂
