Beechcroft Model Railway - #52. Backscenes - Getting nowhere….Fast!

#hornbyrailways , #modelrailways , #bachmann , #modeltrains , #oogauge
I’ve been a bit under the weather so have taken a few days ‘off’ but I’m back now ready to continue work on the Goods Yard.
As you will see, I’ve ordered a Backscene which unfortunately isn’t quite what I’m looking for - that’s the risk from buying via the internet I guess. I can’t believe a simple Backscene can cause so much frustration. Anyway, onwards and upwards… I’ve got plenty to be getting on with so let’s see how I get on!
Hope you enjoy the update, Andy.

Progress is slow and good because there's always the next video. I like the idea of the bricked up window. You were right about the new back scene. If you lose the 4 story building, the others would look right in the with the current back scene!

Maybe you should make your own back scene (with pics of your buildings) using Inkscape. Chandwell on KZread uses it a lot. Need to get it printed then. Keep up the good work. PS if nothing to do, you could simply just run trains and enjoy …

Hi Andy is it worth (on masking tape against the existing back scene) tracing around the low relief then remove them, cut around the long awaited back scene buildings and tape in place (temporary) about 30 to 40mm above the baseboard so it can be seen above the low relief buildings, if any good I placed some of my backscenes on 2mm card to add to the depth effect. I saw them lamps but opted for the ones from the same supplier without the thread and a white light as against a warm yellow light 👍and only had to drill a 2.4mm hole in the buildings, are yours on a 3 volt supply. Enjoyed your update and can clearly see great progress many thanks for sharing and looking forward to next update regards Barry.

looking good, I'm surprised you don't create your own backscenes, buy a lightbox and some watercolour or heavy drawing paper, and you can create lots of ideas

Making back scenes work is an art in itself and it's not helped when many of the commercially available ones look dull, flat and lifeless. I wonder if you could place all those buildings on a platform high, raised area to help raise the buildings higher into the current back scene. Maybe also have a boiler house with very high chimney placed between the bigger, flatter building and that 2 storey low relief building.

@@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt I just read back to myself what I had typed and it sure is an ungainly collection of words. It all made sense when I typed it. 😀

Nice work. Applying the sleeper grime to the track, painting the sides of the rails & adding the flock and static grass to the surrounding area really transforms the layout. 👍

Sadly, an awful lot of back scenes are very disappointing and very expensive. One part of my layout is a bit like our first flat where people had wallpapered over wallpaper several times.

Hi Andy, hope you're well. Layout looking great as usual. Got some of those lights to fit myself mainly to the engine shed I'm building. Got exactly the same lights. Seeing it on your building looks nice. Well done with the grass standing up nicely. One of my pet hates are back scenes, can never get them right. Ended up sticking them up with copydex, not water based. Great vlog Andy, thank you. Thumbs up thumped 👍 .... Pete....

I think its going well.... that idea, getting some more low relief 4 story warehouses is a good one. You could leave the current back scene and cove it over where needed. Should be enough room to slightly step them into the background. Glad that you had some time off, shame it takes a bit off delay and feeling crook to take time off. Great Work.

Could Glue'N'Glaze not sort your window issues. They might not look the same as the others but they might be better than an open window. A couple of boarded windows might add to an aged look if it suits.

I have a stool to stand on to reach the back of the layout without damaging things at the front. One of the downsides to being a short arse. Sorry i have no suggestions for the back scene. Do you know any good artists?
