Magnitude 9.1 Nankai Megathrust Earthquake Scenario with Earthquake Early Warning

DO NOT USE FOR PLANNING PURPOSES
This is what a magnitude 9.1 earthquake on the Nankai megathrust would look like, this scenario assumes the epicenter is somewhere near Kyushu.

For those unaware, while the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake was stronger than the reading measured in this scenario (9.3, vs. 9.1 here), this is Japan's equivalent to the West Coast of the USA's predicted 'Big One'. Previous earthquakes in the region are well-documented, with records on prior seismic activity and the damage caused by it going back for almost an entire millennium, and as such, the Japanese government has invested a great amount of money into predicting and preparing for such an event.

Speaking of the Great East Japan Earthquake, it could have been even worse, as mt fuji could have erupted due to the seismic activity. That would have, combined with the earthquake, made a dust cloud cover Tokyo, delaying critical emergency services by possibly hours at most. “Live from Tokyo before the feed was interrupted by the ash cloud you can see alongside the shaking, the ash cloud, rolling down Mount Fuji right into the heart of Tokyo.” “The ash cloud covered the windows with dust, and combined with the shaking, it just made it worse.” “The ash cloud caused the Toyosu Natural Gas Plant, built, operated and maintained by TEPCO, to explode before starting fires due to the increased friction from the dust. TEPCO denies any responsibility of negligence due to both Fukushima and Toyosu Disasters, stating the magnitude 9.1 earthquake, and tsunami, alongside the eruption resulting from the shaking, was unpredictable, and that it would have taken a long time to fix the issues. TEPCO is still facing legal charges from victims of the two disasters.”

It should also be known that the Japan Trench that spawned the 2011 Tohoku-Oki can create a 2011 scenario once every 800-1100 years, with the last 2011 event occuring in the 869 Jogan 8.6-9.1. The Nankai Trough, meanwhile, is capable of unleashing an 8.4+ once every 250-350 years, with the last Full Margin Rupture being the 1707 Hoei 8.7. That earthquake was the strongest in Japan history until 2011. 316 years have elapsed with the last Full Margin Rupture and the last segment break was in 1944-1946. The money Japan spent on the 50ft Great Sea Wall to prevent another 2011 tsunami could have went to forming proper defences. The sea wall won't even be standing by the time the next Great Tohoku-Oki strikes, with the ocean salt breeze (and other factors) eroding the wall into uselessness within 300 years when the next Tohoku-Oki is, at minimum, 800 years away. I'm no expert in this field and Japan is quite literally the world leader in earthquake engineering and related fields so they would know leagues more than I ever could, but spending all that time, money, effort and resources on a huge wall that won't be around to serve its own purpose looks like a panic project to me when they could have built that very sea wall in a zone on a coast that is ripe for an event equivalent to the Tohoku-Oki 9.1. Especially when the tsunami has 1/4 the time to hit land than the one that inundated Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi and Sendai 12 years ago. If a Japanese Seismologist who is randomly prowling the comment section of a simulation channel can fill me in, I'd like to know why the wall is being built in an otherwise safe area compared to the oncoming threat that is the land adjacent to the Nankai Trough.

Thanks for my request, im sure it took you long time enough. Ill edit this comment when i finish watching the video. Intensities With IV Onwards would be observed in a large and wide area, Including Busan With V Lmao. Also the fact that 6 upper (6+) would be observed in Osaka with a X Mercalli Intensity (Which could also be Shindo 7) Scares me a bit, The original prediction were 323.000 deaths if i dont remember, but since i have seen the measures on Shizuoka Prefecture (I have to update and inform myself to see if theres more) I think the death toll would decrease to something around 300.000. Also for those who wonder, the tsunami would actually reach 34 m high in a worse case scenario. Although i think that it can actually be higher, like a max of 40.5 m like the 2011 one in Eastern Japan or a 47 m high wave.

Watch everything on this channel from start to finish and you will learn so much. It seems that if the quake is on a subduction zone and you are not on its epicenter then it might be one minute or more before the first seismic waves reach you (the shaking). IMO the most amazing recent video on this channel is: Nobody knows about this and it could kill hundreds of thousands of people
