I have seen a JMA simulation of how an earthquake early warning would be issued if an M9.1 Nankai Trough megathrust earthquake occurred, and in that simulation the magnitude value stopped at 8.3. If a Nankai Trough earthquake occurs in the near future and your earthquake early warning software or application, such as JQuake, indicates that the magnitude of the earthquake is 8.3, do not count on it. Do not let your guard down. Evacuate with extreme caution for tsunamis as a maximum magnitude earthquake may have occurred.
