hi . i am new to wood sculpting . i had been watching your amazing skills on display on youtube . i have a question . i read everywhere about safety tips for chainsaw use , and they all say not to use the tip of saw , yet i noticed all the sculptors who use the chainsaw use the tip of the chainsaw without any kickback !!!!!!!!. they also use the tip for plunge cuts . please advise . ( i am considering starting with a mini chainsaw for blocking the wood sculpture )

So I'm new to carving and thought the same as you. You do get used to it the more you do it. Key is to always be ready and position yourself so kickback will miss you just in case. You do get a feel for it. That being said I was almost done with my best bear yet and while using the tip to do some eye work, my saw kicked up and cut my bears eyelid off. So pissed but that's how you learn.

Are you putting your laptop in jeopardy with the dust? That will clog up your heat sink, kill the fan bearings leading to running hot and eventually killing the mother board. Oh... and the cedar rendered scene brought warmth to my chainsaw heart, man
