Magnetic Wood Sheath For A Kitchen Knife
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I show how to make a wood sheath for a kitchen knife. I recently made a kitchen knife and it's pretty big so it won't fit in my cutlery draw. This sheath is designed to hold the knife in the second drawer down, and we all know what that drawer looks like! It protects the blade and also adds to the showmanship of the knife. It's made from cypress and meranti and uses neodymium magnets to hold the knife in place. Wrapped around the outside is a cypress inlay.

I’ve seen a lot of videos, but this is the one I’m going to use. So beautiful, it’s so handsome.

The wrap around detail it's just gorgeous. Nicely done!
What a terrifically put together video. Loved the music, just lent itself to telling the story, so peaceful and enjoyable!
Wow, that turned out gorgeous! Nice Robin!
Looks amazing
gorgeous
Very nicely done the inlay looks has a 3D effect very cool. Take care my friend
Very nice video . . . that is a beast of a knife.
Man with my new job and new place, I think i might just start getting into wood working. Expensive hobby but sure looks fun.
That looks fantastic, Robin! I really like the pattern with the contrasting woods.

At first I thought the sheath was too big, but then I saw how it fit into the drawer and onto the counter. Well done!

very nice!
Hey everyone. In the previous video where I made the kitchen knife a few people wanted to see it in action. Stick around to the end of the video, I lose some arm hair in the name of transparency
This is sooo cool you should def sell these on your store.
Was just thinking of making something like this and googling brought me here. Nice video. One possible improvement - flip one of the magnets so the opposite poles are facing each other. That'd produce a stronger magnetic field in the gap.
Loved the inlay, really stepped it up. Something that pretty should live on the bench, not in a drawer would be my only complaint! :D
Good job. Looks fantastic!

Beautiful :-)
I've been thinking about making a magnetic Saya. This is a bit thicker than I had envisioned. I was imagining 1mm thick n52 neodymium magnets sort of placed down one side. Adjusting the amount for desired pull force. I was also picturing perhaps if it could work a nearly solid row set @ 90 degrees along the spine of the knife to keep the blade edge from ever touching anything. Either way, I thank you for the continued inspiration!

Thanks. I like the idea of putting them along the spine, it would also help lock it in
Looks great. From the editing side of things (because you stressed the different approach in the podcast) : I find the whack a smack action on the inlays plays well in contrast to the fine work itself and the easy music. And the no-talk also fits this kind of build perfectly.

Thanks for the feedback. Great to hear the no-talk was well received, it often divides the audience. As you say, the video lends itself too it so it works in this case
I love this idea! I have a few really nice knives that are always getting dinged up because SOMEONE doesn’t take care of them. I think this would go a long way. I think I’m going to take this idea, adopt it for three knives, and wall mount it.

This is a really nice project, I dig it. But if I could make a slight change to the video, I would invest in a tripod for your camera which stands on the ground. This way it won't fall over and we won't see the vibrations when you hit the table with force like at 2:09
I've had this idea for a long timeout...Оf curiosity - why two magnets, isn't one enough?

Correct, one just didn’t do the job. Also, I would rather it be too tight than have it slipping out
lol
Kinda wasteful way to make sheet
