... yup i'm making a Settlers of Catan board using this. This is perfect.
Love the magnets and puzzle effect! I think there was no need to draw all the hexagons. You could have drawn the first one, cut two opposite sides like you did and then put a stop block on the miter sled fence go get perfectly equal sized cuts on all sides and pieces. Anyway, we could always make things differently, couldn't we? :) Great great stuff and thanks for making me think about things!!
Boom boom! Out go the lights! Slick project, Bob. I'll bet lots of folks wondered how to lay out a hexagon and didn't even know it yet.
The outtakes were golden. The main part of the video was fantastic, but the outtakes were a nice addition.
Those are some attractive coasters ;)

I loved the outtakes and the coasters
The fact that it doubles up as a coaster AND a trivet makes this super cool. Really good idea
Bob, this was a great project. It is so cool. Very impressive. I don't think people realize there is a little trick to getting hexagons to match each other. Keep up the awesome videos, and projects.
Those are really cool. I like how the overall shape can morph as you use them.
Neat idea! I loved the rustic appearance. Its so cool when "barnwood" gets a new life, and it makes for a great conversation piece! Rock on Bob!
Very clever Bob! A trivet that turns into coasters and also a puzzle toy for the toddlers. I knew there was a reason for buying all those magnets I just didn't know what it was. Thanks for sharing.
These came out really nice, Bob. Might have a go at these this weekend. And the bloopers cracked me up!
i really like how you use tools that everybody can commonly have not like a cnc and stuff like that , great video i love watching them every Thursday !
love the way the intro works, very well put together
All I could think was Settlers of Catan! That and a miter saw. :) Great project - definitely going to do this (the Catan board) for a good friend of mine who is moving. Thanks!

+n8guy Absolutely! maybe even use some sawdust to create the basic terrain on each block, mixed with some wood glue, then paint and add flock for plant growth.

I love Catan! I'm really bad at it, but I love it!
I love how you give everyone more ideas on how they can make the thing you just made differently. This was a very simple project, but has big possibilities. Thanks!
Great job Bob. Simple yet versatile. I didn't know that Harbor Freight sold rare earth magnets, I thought those were more expensive, thanks for throwing that in. And the outtakes were awesome.
Man you just gave me an awesome idea for something I'm making!!! Thank you!!!
I love this project.
Great idea Bob! They turned out really nice!
Brilliant, I especially love that you could put a hot pot on them as well, like you said. No issue leaving this on your table all day/every day. Even if they get scarred with little burn spots it would just add character and make them even cooler. Well done Bob!
I subscribed to your channel the other day after stumbling upon all these great videos! I don't build any of these things, of course, but I enjoy seeing them being built! Thanks for the entertainment, Bob. I look forward to more videos in the future!
Even though I'm not a builder, I find your videos thoroughly enjoyable. Great video as always, Bob :)
Some good ideas & techniques in this one Bob. Fun project (and fun outtakes). Thanks for the video.
These are really neat, Bob. Now you've got me itching to go make my own.
Those came out great Bob!

Sticking around to the end pays off. Nice project.
This is a really cool project. I can see these as a nice Christmas gift. It was nice to chat with you at the Rochester Mini Maker fair, thanks for taking the time out and making the long trip.
Ingenious, Bob! Amazing what can be built with some scrap lumber.
Amazing mothers day gift and an amazing creation overall, love it
love the project and bloopers. I would like to recess a circular notching either side for a glass to sit inside. good job!
The bloopers won me over! You should have them at the end of every video! ;)
Great idea - love the built-in character!
I love whatching tutorials that I'm never going to do

I love WATCHING them too. Isn’t WATCHING Them fun?
Really nice coasters, Bob!
awesome idea Bob! I love your work and the Making it Pod cast is one of my "go to" listing pleasures.. the blooper outtakes at the end is a nice touch.
Made this same project at home after watching. My solution to the problems you had.. 1) Stacked, glued, and clamped the initial 5 in. sqaures 2) Marked the hexagon on top, cut with band saw. This ensured EXACTLY the same shape. 3) Flipped the stack on its side, made a stop block on the side of my band saw at ~0.5 in. This ensured exact thickness.
Great project for generating creative thinking! Loved the bloopers as well!
These are great. Love the idea and the use of geometry!
Came out nice!
Cool project! Those would make some nice gifts
Cool project! Nice work, Bob!
as soon as you went over to the bandsaw with the micro jigs I heard they're catch phrase,,, I have been watching too much woodworking for mere mortals
Great X-Mas X-Carve idea! I love that these can combine to form a trivet or be separated into coasters. Also, I really dig the outtakes at the end. I know some people think it's cliché but I think it makes you more human.
One of the best yet Bob! I love it. Keep them coming!
Yup definitely making Catan tiles. Thanks for this one Bob
That is so AWESOME!!! I love the idea of putting magnets on the sides. Everyone is doing diy tile coasters but this is so much better!!! Keep on making stuff, you're the best! 👍
Cool idea! Well executed too.
Simple, smart and useful. Great Job !
Nice video, I like the addition of the bloopers at the end.
Great video shots! Very nice depth of view / focus effects. And a nice and useful product too. Thank you.
Really fun project! I really like that you didn't use the CNC. I feel like that's all I see on KZread these days. I like that you could use it as a trivet too.
Fun project Bob!
great project! simple but very functional. i like the idea that you can join them to create a big "coaster" for pots and pans 👍💪✌
Awesome idea, Bob!
Great job on the hexagon coasters Bob! Love the out takes :)
Very cool Bob! Thanks for sharing this!!
Cool idea. They would make a great gift.
I used this technique on my catan tiles , it works great, only time i wished for a cnc for labeling them, nice job Bob
"I called you over for coffee but really, it's for Catan!"
That is a great idea Bob, you have given me an idea so you have certainly done your job well! Thank you the idea!
I’ve never seen them be done that way! That is so cool, Bob! I’m a math major and have found that when using the radius of a circle as the leg length in a hexagon, you get a value equal to 2pi•r, rather than 6r.
Bob! This is fantastic!
I was thinking of making a coasters from another builder but this is way cooler! Great job!
Great project, very creative!
Really like these! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool concept ! Great job buddy!
Great weekend project Bob, I like how you added bloppers it just goes to show we're all human :)
Love this Coasters!!!
Love the channel and the ideas. I appreciate you just using basic tools in this video. If I may, can I suggest you do a separate category of videos without the use of the CNC, 3D printer, and other specialty tools that most of us cant afford? Making things with basic tools is inspiring
Right after the intro I thought "Ha, I'd like to see the outakes for that!" And sure enough, there they were :-) Thanks for the inspiration!
Keep up the good work Bob.
Cool idea, Bob.
Bringing the lights down at the end. :) :) (outtakes)
That intro was toally badass :D Now I definitely want to make these coasters! And I am a big fan of both hidden magnets and outtakes ;)
This is awesome. You just gave me a great idea for homemade wedding favors! I'll be sure to get you pictures when I make them!
I sense an upcoming viewer using this process to make Coasters of Catan!
I love the outtakes.
Nice project, well done
I like it! What about making a video on a few Christmas present ideas for woodworkers to make for family and friends? It's perfect for this time of year!
Such a cool idea I like the though of hiding the magnets with vanier that way it's like a "wow" factor. I just need all the tools. Literally don't have anything
Great video. The opening was fantastic. I watched it 4 times before going on with the rest of the video. Nice work. -Todd
If you drill a bit deeper and use a magnet that is smaller than the hole so that it can flip freely within the hole, and use a thin plug to plug the hole, then you don't need to worry about the polarity of the magnets as they'll flip to the right orientation when coming within the field of another magnet. It's something I've done with some 2"x2" Dwarven Forge game tiles. With this technique you will get rattling since the magnets are free to move around. As well, you do need to get the N52 neodymium (rare earth) magnets - the strongest rated ones - since distance does affect the strength (ie. the thickness of two plugs of wood).
Very cool. Going to bookmark this one for another time
Love the Bloopers, hahaha. Once again two thumbs up, Awesome video!
Cool project.
Love the project! Wish I had a shop so I could stuff like this =D
Awesome!!
man! your videos and projects are all so cool! they must take some time to design and they look so nice! just cool, man
I LOVE your channel, you have such amazing ideas and they're not too difficult to make!
Hi Bob - I've just stumbled upon your channel. The stuff you're making is great - very inspiring. Makes me want to run down to the shop and start planning my next project. Keep up the great work!

Bob, this is slick. I'm a bit jealous. :-) I may steal this idea... Fortunately the outtakes show that you and I mess up just the same. I've banged the lights also.
Great vid,like the outtakes
great vid Bob...big thumbs up!!
Very smart coasters! I reckon that rough cutting a big batch of hexagons, and then finishing them all up against a master template with a flush trim bit in a router would go well. Keep up the good work. W
Nice. Never would have thought of this one!
i've been very inspired definetly going to have to try to make these .
The patterns and hexagons would look great for table tops
Please make more videos like this. The C&C machine is really cool but I and I'm sure a lot of your other subscribers never plan on owning one. The coasters look like there fun to make. I'm sure I'll be driving my wife crazy playing with them on the coffee table. 😂
Fun project. I need some coasters so might make some of these. Laughed at the out takes. :)
