Magnetic fields demonstration 🧲

Ғылым және технология

Magnetic needles and iron filings always orient themselves towards the direction of the current dominant magnetic field. In this way, the field process of the magnetic forces becomes visible. The resulting ‘field lines’ are characteristic for certain pole constellations.

I suppose you are talking about the needle at the left end of the eleventh rank from the top. There are two magnetic fields at play here--the Earth's magnetic field (notice that all the needles align with it when the permanent magnet is removed), and the field from the permanent magnet. Probably, the needle's excited state with the permanent magnet placed just so is a result of its being at a position where the two fields are nearly equal in strength, and its oscillations are powered by its alternations of alignment with each of the fields.
