Please leave a comment with your feedback on the following! SCOPE: Should we do a SMOL pack (1 board, 4 magnet sheets) for $40-$60 USD, or a BIG pack (double) for $80-$120 USD - PICK ONE! PROPS: What should we fit in our prop magnet sheets? As many ideas as possible, but in order of the most important to you! SCENES: What should we put on the board, on both the magnetic side (inside) and non-magnetis surface (outside) KEEP IN MIND: I'm expecting plenty of suggestions that I make multiple sized and themed packs, but I can't. Any product I make will have a minimum order quantity (MOQ) of thousands to be manufactured. Any additional pack, be it a size or theme variation, will have its own MOQ. I can't make multiple products first time I do this, I have to make ONE really good one, and try and sell enough to meet the MOQ - so please don't suggest I just make more packs, because I can't. Help me make ONE really good one!!

PROPS: I like the idea of having shapes that can mean different things. Regarding actual things I want tables, doors, windows, stairs, beds, chest, question mark symbols to mark if players have to look closer (for example a cluttered desk) Basically things for a bar or a house

SCENE: For the inside a basic grass would be nice to have basic terrain between buildings. For the outside maybe some stone/cave pattern so you can use it as terrain even if it's not magnetic.

SCOPE: Smol - More people can justify $40-$60 for a hobby purchase and if you want more byuy more packs. PROPS: generic tables/chairs/barrels/counters - the kind of things you can make work in any setting from late Iron Age to late 20th century/modern at a push. SCENES: A mix of grass/dirt and flag stone/floor boards - that gives you a good mix of settings.

Depending on production costs ect, they could also break it down into separate folder and packs of prop/scene sheets, people with magnetic whiteboards might get more use out of the sheets than the folder, and people without get mini folding whiteboards, also the folders and prop/scene sheets need to be covered in something to make dry erase markers fine to use on them. As for SMOL pack vs BIG pack, SMOL, people can always just order two to make their own BIG pack and if there's more than one released eventually they can mix and match between packs.

For props, don't forget the SUMMONING CIRCLE. It's on basically every pre-printed map which makes it really awkward to use them for regular non-boss encounters, but when you need an evil ritual to interrupt you really need it, y'know?

SCOPE: I’d say go with the BIG PACK for this first one. It’s good value for what you get in it. There’s more variety and it’s a well rounded first pack for people. Then , down the line, you can think about bringing out smaller, more specific packs, for people to then add to their BASE pack. You guys are doing great btw

Still hope the final finish on the tiles and play area will be dry erase compatible. I feel like a double pack as a starter set makes more sense. It could be packaged as one "book" is the foundation stuff - ie all 4 sheets are wall/building titles - and the other book is 4 sheets of props. For the scene, I think a basic earthen space makes the most sense as you're making buildings. On the other non magnetic side maybe more of the wilderness terrain that is less likely to need as many of the tiles. You could also just make it like a faux book cover so it looks nice on the shelf (or make that a dust jacket) In terms of props: market stalls, tables, bookshelves, hay piles/hedges could all be on a rectangle 2*1 tile. There's definitely more, but those are the things I find myself typically needing to slap down 😛 Lastly, I love how expandable this could be. Like you could have an underwater set, or a desert set, or so on. Will be very excited to see where this goes.

I like this a lot, but I would say also have the books as individual purchases as well. Then people can buy what they need (including more of the "foundational book" if they have a huge city" or more of the "props book" if they want more props. Or just the foundational one to see if it fits their playstyle.

I like the dust cover idea, that would pair well with having some kind of playable graphics and then shelf appeal. I would have the base set have two books but have single books available, both for expansion or an option for someone to try at a lower cost (but less cost effective) compared to the intended starter set. If there is enough dead space on the sheets, maybe some small fairly universal dressing scatter type stuff like spiderwebs, or barrels could add extra value to a given sheet. Maybe some low production cost supplement like an adventure or different dust covers or reversable dust covers with different book looks from the expansions for the bigger base set to make it a more robust value vs getting singles. Maybe see if static clings would stick to the base pieces? That may make customizing or changing the look easier. Not sure how hard they would be to get off if perfectly alligned though, and it would be something else that could use the same cut. Since one side is not magnetized maybe the dust covers could have a 3rd graphic style on the reverse. Other than the standard different terrain types on other packs, perhaps having a range of styles would also be good like something more cartoony for the kid and light hearted stuff. Or a darker more gritty look for grim dark stuff.

I like Dave's idea of cobblestoneish area being the magnet side and an adventure grid being printed on the other side with grass/terrain, as you're less likely to want to build a grass scenery, as you're more than likely quickly passing through VS a township as mentioned. Ie, pub, blacksmith, guards quarters etc

My vote: The default is 1 board, 4 sheets (buildings only, no props). Add ons being the 2nd board and props sheets. The people like me will be fine with making paper props but want enough building pieces to complete the rooms (like the circle one). In the future, we can upgrade to the special props pieces and additional boards... I love the idea of the grass coloring on the outside and cobblestone coloring on the magnetic side.

Maybe a sheet of dry erase compatible circles with lower strength magnetic-ness (if that’s a word?) to use as characters and mobs? Alternatively, could do 4 sheets of varying sizes as an expansion pack 😊 Honestly $100 for the 2 “book” set seems pretty reasonable for the amount you’d get and the playability it would give. Absolutely love Dave’s idea for having set up building levels that can stack! The possibilities are endless 😊

Its a pritty cool idea, but i would split the tiles themselfes into different purchase packs. maybe the core pack is the flip book and all you need for dungeons, and then there are expantions packs, for outdoors and forrests, villages, cityscapes, castles and so on. so you can focus with each pack on all the variety you need and not be forced to cut tile ideas because you whant to cramp to much into one purchase.

Big board for sure ! $100 ish is fine for a premium reasonably large layout. Then packs for different scenarios (swamp, castle, farms, caves, dungeons etc.). Double sided with inside magnetic (for the war base or town) and outside for the surrounding forrest, hills, desert etc.). Extra packs for greeblies - barrels, fences, rocks, trees, carts, fire pits etc. At 28 mm (usual size for D&D resin characters, 1.15in tile size should be fine. I tend to prefer 32mm, as they have more detail, but can scale them down to 28mm, if needed.

SCOPE: Make a base set with the double the items; but, make accessory packs where you can buy extra parts. PROPS: rocks, trees, bushes, barrels, tables, chairs, counters (for taverns) Fireplaces, firepits, bedroom furniture, throneroom furniture, dining room furniture, library accessories, floor tiles with spell circles... I could keep going for days! Definitely make some accessory packs that are different themes: Underdark with mining equipment, castle, wizard's tower, miscreant hideout, tavern, farm, town, roads and paths Scenes: for the base set, I would go forest, cobblestone, underdark (I'm running OotA right now), and plain grassy bits with random dirt.

Feedback: SCOPE: I think a BIG pack would be great, as you can do more with it, and those who are interested probably wouldn't mind the extra cost for such a high quality product. PROPS: Tavern is a must have; every D&D session ever starts in one! A camp would be neat too, it could work as an adventurers camp or bandit camp etc. Also magic props perhaps? Such as for a wizards tower or evil sorcerers cult. SCENES: Cobblestones would work great for the magnetised side, as it goes hand in hand with the buildings, and I think that the versatility of grass on the other side would be awesome.

SCOPE: I don't know about this mapholder... Many of us have file folders at home. So I suggest you create sheets, which you can store in file folders. That way you can flip through you world and if needed you can extract the sheets and lay them down as you want them. You can also store your character-sheets and story in there. I think that would also solve the problem of the scope as you could let the buyer decide how many sheets they want. You also get the opportunity to let you team design an exclusive file folder for the starter-pack with 2 sheets. And if you really want to have a holder as you have now, you can make one, which holds the sheets. You know slip the sheets into place and go onto your adventure.

Scope: I like the idea of the bigger one, you then have the bigger board, with the option to go smaller, depending on what that scene/map needs! Props: I like the idea of a table, and well...others I would consider is trees, hedges, bookshelves, rocks/boulder, chests, desk, possibly armour/weapon racks, treasure piles. Traps (spike, pit fall, tripwire etc)...i am trying to think of things that would not only decorate, but be used for cover, and exploration! Scenes: I like the idea that Dave had for cobble...this leaves it open for dungeon surrounds, city streets etc, the other side I would go grassy, to have meadow, field, forest scenery (where trees and heges from "props" could come in handy for decoration, cover and barricades) Even with the limited amount that could be produced going by tooling, you could also (and i am guessing you've probably thought about this) do some videos on the other channels about making your own tiles at home. making the possibilities pretty endless!

Love the idea and work. SCOPE: 2 boards for a starter pack seems ideal, cobblestones and then grass for the non-magnetic - perfect. PROPS: if this is for a town based theme - what are the props most interacted with, particularly for a fight in a town.... Need a bar /tavern props; need an inn /hotel /house; a market / shops; a small temple; stables; a graveyard? A rulers hall? Generic props: Stairs! Table! Rug with a closed trap door on the other side? A trap door that is open/shut if you flip it over. A cart, a goods box, a vendors table, bookshelves, a chair or thone, an alter, a cellar door, barrels, beds, trunks, couchs, towns guard weapon racks.... Finishing all of it such that dry erase markers will work is a Brilliant idea!

Scope: I'd say small, that way people can tailor to their needs and individual budgets, since you can't offer both, or extra magnet sheets separately. Props: trees, rocks, water. Things that present a movement hindrance or potentially block attacks/shots that isn't a wall. Scenes: forest, ruins, towns...or maybe make whiteboard sides for people to draw their scenes so it's not as limited. This looks so awesome!

  • @Howzee87
    @Howzee87 Жыл бұрын

Scenes: Dave’s idea seems best. Cobblestone inside for a town feeling when you place down your building & grass / forest outside for adventuring. Leaving the Tavern built and then adventuring out from there you simply flip the folder and nothing moves. Have your adventure in the forest, then return to the Tavern to rest - flip the folder again and you’re done. Or, a more dramatic example - only one folder is out, made up with a tavern. Adventurers leave the tavern to head into the forest. DM flips the tavern board, and brings out the second folder to expand the forest area. Adventurers come across a wizards tower. DM flips second folder to reveal their pre-made wizard tower, leaving first board over as the forest surrounds. Having the outside whiteboard marker compatible would be amazing. Both if possible, but particularly the outside as this would let you add some details, props, etc, that you can’t do with the magnetic items.

I'd say the Small pack is the most ideal as it would be a great size for an introduction/travel kit. It being smaller will help with introducing new people to the tabletop genre. With that said, I can also see the opportunity for the extra board(s) and tiles being fit into an intemediate box/expansion pack for those who are invested fully already into the product/tabletop genre in the future. Side notes , people could also substitute the board for their own self built variants if bigger was needed, so focusing on the tiles themselves I'd say is the bigger priority. Also there are those who have already made investments into other tabletop franchises will have an opportunity to meld their kits together with the product to make it more personal to the player. P.S It should be called something like "Shape and Play TableTop" to keep it fun and simple.

Scope: Big Pack, makes the whole thing more versatile. I like the idea of having sections you would be able to hide from the player and then as they move in a dungeon you open up another "chapter" or "book" Props: Trees, large rocks, tables, traps!, portcullis, barrels, chandeliers!, stairs, chest, wells/pit, tents, fire pit, grates Scenes: Magnet side - Cobblestone, could be used for a city or dungeon, non-magnet: forest, ocean, desert

I would make the smaller pack personally - I think it has more scope as a modular product (That's how wotc and games workshop built their business model for a reason) and I think the expansion pack mindset might be good for you! I would concider making the actual play area in the book larger as it seems there would be little space around the structures for props (perilous gardens are my favourite) and maybe then you could do slightly more on the cut page with the extra space. Personally I do dnd on a huge whiteboard (like Dave) so I'd feel restricted by such a small play space. However I'm totally looking forward to how this integrates with my current mapping style. I guess what I'm saying is somewhere in the middle - it's not a whole army - you're making a kill team to convince people that they should buy the rest of the army later. This is a product we nerds will buy edition after edition.

Scope: Double as starter kit, and single as expansion kits. Props: Various kinds of furnitures, treasure chest, stairs, obstacles to put in a city like a well, sales booths, a cart, a trough, a hitching post, ... Scenes: On the inside cobble stones or something like that, on the outside some grassy landscape, maybe with a road or track, on an expansion pack it would be nice on the outside to have cobblestones with a transition over to a pier/jetty/wharf area and water. Suggestion: Have some printable PDFs on a web page that people can print on magnetic paper themself with additional props, and also make it possible for people to upload more PDFs with fan created props.

What an amazing concept. Let’s be honest, hobbies aren’t cheap and I think you get your investment worth of map building with this. I would start with a SMOL pack (half a tower plus accessories) you can buy two if you want to. And then launch the extension sets with extra terrain and accessories. I would love a door that show whether it opens inwards or outwards. PROPS: chairs/steppingstones, table/bed/ tent,/stairs. bookcase/cupboard/cabinets/divider. Sconces/lights Well/round rug/campfire . Fireplace Also trees (could be same as rug/well) Scrubs/barrels and I would love horses (combined with table and barrels= cart. Also tent could well be market stall as well. Scene: cobblestone yes! And a grassy place. Again I say horses as props. That way you can see if a horse is ridden or not which is hard to do with miniatures.

This is a really cool idea. For Scope: Did you ever get into something and go and get a "basic" kit only to find that you need to buy something else? And it turns you off, because you thought you were getting a starter package cheap? The 1 board 4 magnet Sheets, reminds me of that experience. It would lead me not to want to play, because I would want more. The bigger package souldn't like you can really have a complete set. It might mean that I will have to wait to get it, but it would be worth it, knowing that I can build on the world with ----- Props: Expansion packs to really refine my world play or even explore other worlds. I like the idea of having the ability to add more ... As for the Scenes: I am not sure, I am sure that your imagine will make them fantastic. I am sure that Dave can help you in that department.

First off, I love seeing this thinking process. Second, when Dave talked about laying one floor on top the one below when progressing through a building I got an idea. What if you don't just lay them on top of each other, but you use little stands with brackets where you can put them in, so there is an actual space between the floors. This way, some of the players can be on one floor, while others are already up onto the next. (I guess you'd need 6 stand, 4 for the corners and 2 for the fold in the middle.) This way the separate floors would take up less space on the table and it might feel more immersive, since it's more realistic, stacking them on each other. The retail value of the double board would be fair, I think. Yes you might have to pay double for the double the amount of materials. But the creative possibilities grow more exponentially. So the value of the product doesn't just double, because of the amount of the materials you get, it actually would triple, quadruple or even more, in my opinion. Finally, you guys are just awesome! Greetings from Belgium.

SCOPE: leaning SMOL, allows you to try out the kit at an approachable pricepoint and expand by buying a second pack down the line if you like it PROPS: Chests/crates/barrels, stairs up/down, tables/platforms, barricades, rubble, bars/portcullis (dotted "door" tile), rivers/ditches/chasms, torches?, pyres?, wells, "trap"/hazard tiles, pillars SCENES: alluding to cobbles/stone on one side would work for dungeons + towns you could revisit, and greenery on the other side sounds superb. Leaning lush undergrowth with a patchy brown mottled throughout could help the tiles stand out, assuming they're more solid in color

Loving the progress based on the video. I have points that i think would help. 1. Make all the walls, including the round/curved walls, removable. Because a tower with no walls can be a town centre, courtyard, and so on. 2. As nice as the mdf board looks, I'd say that'd be great for a Premium edition product. Laminated Vinyl print on both sides should be cheaper and will still look great. 3. Scale i think is a great question. I'd be happy if there were separate outdoor and indoor packs. The outdoor one would be double the size with outdoor specific props. And the indoor would be as shown in the video. Could also sell one of each and call it the town pack. 4. Nothing wrong with keeping doors simple, I'd say make the page fit more small rectangles, change the color so it represents windows or vents. 5. Small 1 inch circles with a simple metal texture. Can be used for a million things, traps, toilets, ladders, graves, you name it. 6. I like the idea of the magnet sheet having a simple snap out and instant use simplicity. Not only because even a new GM can use it asap. But the remaining "waste" can be reused by simple cut and glue. Admittedly though the magnet would need to be slightly rigid. 7. I recommend some simple laminated paper/vinyl sheets for the outdoor packs. They just need simple ground texture/artwork, are non magnetic, would be held in place by the magnetic terrain, and be usable with whiteboard markers for marking rivers and such. One grass, one snow, one swamp and so on. It could also work as an add on purchase. 8. Also this idea has alot of potential for many genres. For example a simple black board with space assets, allowing DMs to build space maps for Spelljammer/Star Wars campaigns. 9. Last minute idea. A vertical terrain pack. Characters are in combat while climbing up a cliff face or castle wall. Changing the angle but staying 2D

SCOPE: I would prefer the folder boards be sold separately from the tile sets. So, you have the player boards, the tile sets, and the prop sets, and people can mix and match whatever combos they'd like. You could also have a pre-selected starter set that comes with certain packs (kind of like a MTG starter deck). PROPS: Prop sets sold separately would be great. Personally, I don't think they need to be included in the base starter set, but maybe a select few could be a good way to give people an idea of what they could get with the separate additions. I love that you pointed out that you can simply print different designs on them and use the same tooling. I'm not sure how this would work, or how practical it is, but since your audience is probably made up of a lot of creative people, it could be neat to offer a blank set that people can use to create their own. SCENES: This is partially why I would prefer the folder boards available separately. I could see wanting the magnetic side to be cobble, grass, snow, or dungeon themed. And that's just D&D. Maybe future versions can be sci-fi and cyberpunk themed. Something like this project is long overdue. I love the simplicity of the idea and the creative problem solving going into making it. I've done product design in the past (still partially involved), and this would be an amazing project to be a part of! Lucky team you have there!

I think you should sell the two packs separately. A smaller play space is totally fine for many many group and actually more ideal because they may not just have the space for a larger play space. That then also gives people the option to purchase additional building tiles without the props if they would like or to buy an additional set of just props. Then that gives you the ability as you grow your collection as you can afford to, and to have more and more boards to store pre-built designs on that you can just pull out as you need them while taking up little to now space. This lowers the barrier to entry which is a very big issue with a lot of people wanting to get into this sector of the hobby as not may people can afford to spend over 100.00 for something like this for their games, but if the cost is between 40-60 as an entry point it is much easier for someone to make the leap. This design is absolutely amazing. So much so that since your first video I started trying to figure out the cost to do something similar myself at home and while the cost would be less, the amount of time it would take is just not feasible for me. And to top it off, the folding magnetic boards are 100% a game changer and I literally could not find anywhere to source that material from. This is possibly one of the best TTRPG products that I have ever seen, so long as it remains affordable.

I think the larger pack with two boards, then offer smaller packs that are themed. Swamp, desert, forest etc. You could do the same with the props. A large number of very basic props with the large pack, then smaller amount of props appropriate to the theme of the smaller packs. You could also do themed prop packs, for example a tavern prop pack that has stools, bar pieces, stairs, cooking pots, vegetables, even include tankards and smaller glasses to help with immersion. Another smaller pack of props could be items such as loot items, swords, crossbows, gems, jeweled goblets. You could extend the range further when you include some items such as arrows so that if a character has 10 items in their quiver, but is only able to retrieve 3 from an encounter, then they can have that visual reminder of their actual inventory. It could evolve and evolve from there.

I like the idea of having a BIG intro book like starter pack.. giving you a wide variety of different building pieces and props to work with.. ($100-$120 intro pack isn't that bad honestly for everything youre offereing in the pack).. Also having the cover (non magnetic side) be a forestry/green hills/wilds that has a light shaded grid for play that doesn't require the building pieces but could make use of the prop sheets I think would be perfect. Also the idea of future installments or "books" could be thematically specific like "dragons dungeon", "desert terrain", or "under water city" as add on packs would be so cool to see. ❤🎉 either way love this idea!

Single sets (with different themes) makes the most sense. "Room set" and "prop set" and "dungeon set" and and and... then the more you buy, the bigger the area you can have, but you also have a low cost entry point.

Also also... sets with the boards, and packs of just the punchboards is an option right? so... Room Set (with board), Prop Set (without board but 6 or 8 sheets), Dungeon Set (with board), etc. etc.

I like Dave's idea of having the nonmagnetic side being an open gridded forest, then you've got outside battle on one side and inside battle on the other. The only thing I'll add to that is it needs a sleeve or dusk jacket so it looks good sitting on a shelf when not in use.

You need to kickstarter this… take my money now. I think the large set is the way to go as a starter book, then you could buy additional “chapters” as expansions and themes. This is better than printing 3D tiles. So cool.

Scope: Go for the smaller packs. A lower price is more appealing, and it allows for more flexibility in how much a person gets per purchase. A big pack might shotgun into people having way more than is necessary. Props: tables, chests, waist-high obstructions/sandbags, concrete dividers, lamps/torches, barrels/rubble/trees, different doors (thick metal door vs. medieval wooden door), chairs Scenes: Definitely a grid should be put on the inside, for the first batch use an earthy dirt inside backdrop as it will fit pretty much anything, reserve part of the outside as logo/brand and part of it as a gridded extension of the inside for quick use

12:43 I think having 2 options seems the best. A "beginners/intro" pack with one board and the room tiles, and an "Advanced/Add-ons" pack with another board and the props. Then you could do a bundle option "save 10% when you buy 2 or more" because i would probably like buying 2 of the room tiles set and one of the props set. Love this idea!!

I like the idea of books and floors. I think ppl will buy multiple sets. I being one of them. Plus you can make a add-on pack. We’re it just the book or just the props. Making different scenarios and scenes. With different background types. Like forest, ocean, and space. Filling the different world and storylines DND already has, and making it customized to the players and DMs. I can’t wait for this! Keep up the great work! My pocketbook is ready!

I think the beauty of this comes in the accessibility. You set out to create something for those who cant afford or who dont have the space for all the minis and terrain to make a super cool play space. I would go with the single pack and give us the option of buying 2, it allows those who can afford it to still get the bigger play space and tiles, and those who cant can still get something really decent to play with. Props wise it would be great to have some Customisable simple shapes to use as player tokens (or whatever special specific item the scene requires) sometimes magnets can be drawn on with dry erase markers. Could be a way to allow for more generalisation on your part. For scenes i think what you mentioned was a good idea, something town-y and something forest-y. I think both sides will benifit from a player grid. For scale ect. Excited to see where this project ends up.

For scope I would go with the big pack, the size of it feels right and the ability to keep your board in order after a session is great. For Props: stairs, pillars, bar counter, tables, a hole, trees/bushes, rocks, cacti, wagons, fences, fireplace, shelves, chests (could the reverse side be a mimic?), beds, fountain, statue, cannons, campfires, water for ponds or rivers?. coffins, graves, bridge For scenes I think the inside should be pretty neutral, it will probably be covered by the larger tiles in most cases. While the outside makes sense to have a more plains/grassy scene, less buildings out in the wilderness.

Instead of a sheet of props and one of scene, do a sheet of half prop and half scene so you can create your generic outlines and then theme your colorations by sheet. One sheet can have prop and scene for outside, another for inside, or dungeon, castle, village, etc. Opens up future expandability without have to make every expansion a two sheet set

Honestly for the size combats I run I think one board would be good. I see this as each board/book coming with four sheets (or however many fit inside when closed) of themed packs. That way you can buy the ones with the parts you need, each one comes with another board, and you can scale it as you need to. Additionally, having a dry/wet erase surface would make it so much more useable for on the fly building and would help reduce the need for tons of tiny props.

im extremely interested in this, ive played online and in person but we drew everything on paper , as ive never had tiles or anything id be interested in like a dungeon pack with the two boards and all the tiles but id love a town pack as well that had half the tiles and a a bunch of props . 1: a big pack, around the $80 mark 2: tables, carts, barrels, torches, books, chests, fences, boxes 3: on the inside a mix of grass and dirt and cobble stone, on the outside a forestry transition into like a meadowed area with a river along one side , and mountains on the opposite side

SCOPE: I thing the bigger pack is better, because a single board does not look like enough space for a truly fantastic experience. Yes the cost is more, but I believe it's definitely worth it. PROPS: For the base pack, I would maybe include wooden tables, chairs, haybales, bookshelves, carts (either wheelbarrow-ish and/or with a horse hitched up to the front), stone wall and/or hedges and/or fences, stairs (Dave was mentioning having upstairs and downstairs of buildings laid out, so I figure stairs will be helpful), barrels, and market stalls. Maybe also a few water tiles to make a stream? They can piece together kind of like the river tiles in the board game Carcassonne (some are straight, some are curved, one has a bridge over it, etc). SCENES: I really like Dave's idea for what's on the board, so I would honestly just go with that. IDEAS FOR LATER: After this base pack is all figured out and available for purchase (and if it's doing well which it probably will), you can design smaller "expansion packs" with more specific themes (castle, swamps, etc. like Jazza was saying). Maybe each expansion pack could come with one board plus the tiles? That way people can get more boards without repeatedly buying the base pack if they don't want a billion base pack tiles. Including only one board with each expansion pack would also cut down on cost so that they're less costly than the base pack. Also, I know in the past you had a miniatures set available to purchase. Would you consider maybe making another one of those that can be another type of expansion pack to this? Maybe a pack of enemies, one for townspeople (shopkeepers, wizards, farmers, etc.), one of animals, and one of heroes (maybe only the most common races). Or would it be better to have magnetic tiles of enemies/shopkeepers/etc. and have miniatures only for the main characters/creatures? I know it's a lot more work to figure out and make miniatures, especially if the set includes paints like the last one did, but it's something to maybe keep in the back of your mind for a bit. It's definitely best to focus on the base pack, then the tile expansion packs and board designs, then maaaaaaaybe after that think about miniature sets.

Scope: Smol. I think it might sell better and the people that have a bit more money at hand can easily buy two sets. A smol set can be useful already. And if its an overall win and more variations of sets are on the way, the ones with just one set can easily buy another one later to expand the possible variations. I feel a bit of a collecting vibe here. Props: i dunno. Some stuff to build a tavern and a sleeping room, some stuff to build an orc-ish camp with tents, campfire and stuff. And something to fill a cave, but a cave might be something for a future pack with a different theme. Scenes: oh i already mentioned some earlier, i guess as dave already said a more city-ish vibe inside to build houses there for long term use would be nice. And some grass and stuff on the outside as a bonus battlemap would be good too.

I like the idea of making a main set and then having expansions. You could do themed expansions. Also I’d say doing a large base set for 100 dollars makes the most sense. If you’re going to go for this you really want to have enough supplies for a minimum of 4 players and a lot of groups play with more which is where the expansions can really help with. I do love this and can’t wait to see this develop.

SCOPE: For a first product, the double board layout is best, even with the higher price point. Having more props, a complete circle and the bigger play area really makes a difference. PROPS: - for circular cutouts: wells, fire pits, fountains, summoning circles, pillars, circular staircase, pits (of despair) statues, -for smaller square/rectangles: boxes/crates, treasure chests, pallisades (nice ones and questionable looking ones), graves (opened ones and undisturbed ones), chairs, broken furniture/statues, bones, -For bigger square/rectangles: carts, vendor stands, cave entrance, broken floor pieces (that match your other floor pieces) boulder and/or rock formation, ruins (of walls, giant statue piece like a giant hand or half a giant head, broken columns, etc.), tables, cellar door, staircase, shelves (bookcases but they don't all need to have books), Fireplace, beds, couches or loungers, floor rug (this could also be circular). - As a note, I would usually say trees for props but since the grassy/woodland side will most likely not be magnetic not sure it would be worth it, maybe a few smaller greenery items. SCENES: I like the idea for the simple generic dirt cobblestone suggestive, magnetic town side and having a more greenery theme for the other side. I think it would be really cool if the greenery side was a little less generic and had a few more features, like part of a river cutting across a corner, some depth variation (suggestion of a slope or hill), suggestion of a path cutting across. I know if it's not generic enough, it is less adaptable for different situations but sometimes if it's too much of just generic green grass then you have to fill it with something. Might be nice to have the wilderness path just be playable as is. Hope these suggestions help! It looks really cool!!

Personally I think that the smaller pack might be the best idea because it's more affordable and we as consumers can always buy a second set to create the larger play experience. In terms of props I think you need to think of what kinds of scenes you would be making with the set, especially because you don't want the scene to become too crowded. The kinds of things I would be using the set for would be Taverns, Houses and Shops, so I would probably want things like Tables, Shelves/wardrobes, a Bar/counter, Barrels, Crates, Beds, Fireplaces, and some kind of seating. Along with that a couple of pieces of foliage for out side would also be a good addition. With the Scene outside it needs to be something that you can easily change its interpretation of what it is.

I am loving watching this progression. As a newer DM with a lot of ideas, I would definitely have a few requests. - AT LEAST a water terrain option with ship parts, as that is one of the hardest things to find customizable (I currently ahve a single map with water and 2 floors of a ship on it that I have to draw on with dry erase markers to make it custom to the mission) - decorative/puzzle elements like rugs, trap doors, sconces/torches - things for visual puzzle building that might still be highly environmental Thoughts on the project as a whole: - I love the more basic feel as that would give rise to mixing the terrain with minis (IE, that round table also being a statue pedastel would lend itself to having a statue mini sitting on it for a 3D effect) - I love the top down look - feels very Zelda-esque which is how the few campaigns I've run have gone lol THis is a great service to your fans and the RPG industry - I'm on board and will be figuring out how to purchase as soon as you are ready roflol

Props: Thematic to region Castles, Towns, Cities, Village, Forrest, Caves, Dungeons, Dessert, Crypt, Seas/Boats, etc. Scenes: Once again Theme like Town magnetic/Meadow non-magnetic or Dungeon magnetic/Caves non-magnetic. KIM: A base theme to start on should include common trope aspect ie. you meet in the tavern or you all are present before the ruler, this kind of thing will see most use as how you start will often be representative of a home/base of opperations and see multiple uses in a campaign. In other words a good first purchase is a maliable starting location.

Just thinking out loud: 4 sheets sounds about enough, but the 2 boards looks good for play size (I dont think I would need 8 sheets with rooms/walls etc) I would say 80 USD is max. We use Loke Dungeon Books, which create 24x24inch with 2 books opened up, but we hardly use more than half that size. I like the 1.15inch. For props, maybe a sheet with a few main props for the most used environments: tent-wagon-campfire for outside, tablewithchairs-bar-bed for the inn, stall-crates-displayedgoods for the market, a few trees, bushes and river would be nice for scenery. I dont really know what to do with the non-mag side to be honest; I think town and grass area is most versatile backgrounds.

I agree with your assesment, though if you have a road too clearly indicated it would mean that the play board would have a definite orientation which could be quite limiting to DMs.

I'd pay around $100 for something like this. I'd recommend having different pack sizes for those who can't afford a 2pack. If having 2 different packs is to hard then I'd rather a 2 pack. Props like chairs, tables, book shelves, carts, shrubbery, beds. Depending how small you want to go you could add mugs, plates, scrolls, open and closed books, potion sets, and more. Maybe also have it where you can buy like the props or the building tiles without the board just as extra sheets. I love this idea, it seems really cool and with lots of possible outcomes. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

SCOPE: Big pack (essential pack) PROPS: Variety of wooden, metal and wizardy base stuff to cover multiple environment scenarios. SCENES: outside and inside should be different for each board because we shouldn't waste the oopurtunity to use both and add variety to the scene, example; inside: rough cobble stone on one inside and slight forest terrain on the other inside so they can go together seamlessly, outside: big scene to cover both outsides for a night dark forest with fire pit or an area to fight or some sort of eye-chatching environment. This sits somewhere between that aand printed card stock (eg Loke Battlemaps) which can be bought pretty cheaply. Not wishing to teach anyone to suck eggs, but do some comparisons for yourself on whats in the marketplace already, does your price point suit. I would prefer a forest scene on the outside not magnetic side because it would look nicer. Maybe do some fireflies on the spine to add a little flare. I think a chest that can be flipped over to reveal a mimic would be classic. Tavern/house props are popular, like desk, table, chairs. Jail cell would be fun. Tapestries or a gilded frame would be good to dress up a scene in a fancy house. Bushes/ plants are versatile. A broom. (Beware the brooms)

SCOPE: I say go for the big pack! if you can only do one option, I think the people who are most interested in this project would prefer the bigger. (If you have the ability to revisit the idea at a later stage though then doing an expansion pack-based design like a bunch of other people have mentioned is probably the best idea!) Been GMing for years and always have designed my own dungeons/maps, I can say that for the first question: scope. More is better. Having an excess of pieces you don't need is a far better problem than not having enough pieces that you need. This seems more tailored to set-piece battles/encounters and not something you'd run the entire dungeon on. Props is a difficult thing since most of the time you want something very specific, but you also need something that's general purpose. It's similar to the scope question. If you go general, which is likely the best option, you'll still end up with not enough of some sort of prop, or there's some prop that you'd want that's missing. I don't really have a good answer for this, but having prop tiles use the same cutting pattern to reduce cost makes a lot of sense. As for the scenery on the in and outside of the boards. I probably agree that having grass on the outside makes the most sense. The two most common ground types in encounters are grass and stone tiles. I'd say that the inside of the board should probably be some sort of laid stonework that could work for both dungeons, towns and castle/temple interiors. I tend to think of dungeons as existing in negative space that I'm cutting into, when designing, so having the scenery be on the subtle side would be my suggestion. During the video I had similar thoughts of what Dave said when he mentioned taking out another board for the second floor of a dungeon. I was thinking that I'd probably want some standalone boards that I could have stuff prepared on and just pull out and put on top of the boards already on the table. It could be for the inside of houses if playing on a larger scale map, or upper/lower floors for dungeons and temples. A similar idea to the concept of a fold out dungeon map, that might be something to look at for inspiration, is Dungeons Pop on Kickstarter. I think their campaign finished already, but are allowing late pledges. As the name suggests it's fold out maps but that work like those pop up books, creating a 3D map. It's much more limited in what you can do, since the pop up designs are set, so it's not something I think I could find a use for, but it's kinda neat.

Props: tables n chairs, crates and barrels, a few trees or bushes for that exterior stuff Scene: the inside could be just a basic gravely stone to allow for city or dungeon vibes, and the outside could include stuff you might find outside, green grass, maybe a river or body of water, this could more a representative lay out rather than an exact scale measurement. I personally know that any product you end up with will have had plenty of thought gone into it, as passion projects tend to have. don't lose sight of your vision :).

I will definitely be buying these but here is some feedback: SCOPE: I think people would like to mix and match as much as possible (e.g. get the dungeon tiles in preference to props or vice versa). I would prefer to use 3-d printed props but I realise alot of gamers would not have access to these. PROPS: I think the props need to be items that are likley to be important to a scene such as traps, pentagrams or suspicious looking treasure chests (Chekov's Mimic). Also you will need to test the grippiness of the props which will be 3mm further from the metal base. SCENE: I think cobblestones one one side and generic grass on the other is perfect for the starting set. Alternately, a plastic sleeve on each side where a new picture could be dropped in as needed. Ideas: I presume there will need to be a cover sheet - perhaps Dave could write an encounter or two with a picture of the setup to get people started (perhaps with others accessible as a PDF)? Best of luck. I would really love to see this in my RPG collection ... it combines all the good things I like about preprinted maps and dungeon tiles without any of the drawbacks. Cheers!

I ask that because, personally think the larger would definitely be the one I would buy, but I narrate an online cogent game, and my desk space is incredibly limited, as well as what my webcam would be able to pick up. It’s really frustrating to buy something that kinda works but if it doesn’t quite have enough pieces to be used Consistently then it won’t get the regular play and will sit on a shelf forgotten about. PROPS: Definitely only have one tooling setup. Heaps of options to reuse the same tool shapes even if at the end of the day you have images of things just on square tiles with generic backgrounds around the item. All the classic things: - horses/mules +/- carts - campfires, tents, firewood piles - things players drop: back packs, a sword, a pole arm, a bow (maybe all on the tool shape of long rectangle with curved corners), a shield - chests, crates, barrels - shrubs/dense foliage, tree trunks - rocks maybe? - if you have space maybe a corpse token or like a skull/crossbones to place where the corpses are after their mini has been removed? Given dry eraseable then I’d be tempted to leave off water sources like rivers or lakes and have those be drawn on. SCENES: Your comments about buildings being more likely to need to be stored is very true but id still hesitate with the cobblestone since I’m fantasy that would be reserved for cities, a dirt/light grass more suited to villages and buildings on the side of the road. Something to INVESTIGATE: on the magnetic side can you have a piece of paper held in place and place by the magnets on top? Pending on magnet strength. If so then people can print out their own scenes/backdrops to build on, whether it’s snow, cobbles, mountains, underground etc. or even print out their digital maps and use the props as things that can be moved around the board but aren’t rolling everywhere. If this is possible then I would strongly look at having a nice spine printed on the outside so it sits nicely on shelves would be more polished. You could include an example print or two as well but that could be too challenging to include in the manufacturing line. If that can’t work, then having a standard grass clearing would be the safest. Bonus points if it’s light enough in the spine that you can write in dry erase a title (book like) about what you have currently set up inside.

I'm in the UK so not really sure I'll be able to even buy it but something like this would be amazing. I don't think price is a huge barrier. As a GM it's something I'd be happy sinking some money into. I also have a group that would probably happily split a set 4 or 5 ways. If that makes sense? I was also going to suggest double sided magnets. So the rooms could be both stone floor and wooden on opposite sides. Either way, great idea. Love to see it come together.

I'd say make paired sets, individually available. For example, Tavern Room Tiles and Tavern Furniture. You can buy just one at your 40-60 mark, or both together, possibly at a slight discount. Gives DMs an option to buy more building tiles if they want them without extra props, or you can decide just to make do with the room tiles if you don't want to afford a double set.

Scope: Keep it Small Props: Don't do props at all. Just buildings/walls/floors. The beauty of this is a that the map is modular, but I could put 3D stuff on it. If I buy multiples, then I'm burried in props and I can't help but feel like I would have had more walls. Walls = Maximum utility. Too many props would literally prevent me from buying at any size. Scene: On the base board to basic dungeon for dry erase, then do the tiles in a bit of a generic cobble. I know stone on stone feels dull, but that will get a lot more use than anything else. Keep versatility in mind.

You can probably also have a whiteboard version where the players can draw on the outside of the structures, good for adjusting the scene for encounters.

Noob here. I think that the larger initial pack makes sense. Maxing the return on tool cost is the most important thing at this point. Further expansion packs can cover things like water features and hellscape.

First off I love how your hilarious even in your Vlogs lol.. Second You make me miss playing DnD. Third I can totally see a serious DM buying this as an investment ,but I can see the dilemma of price. Just depends on how much they're willing to put into there campaign ,but I personally prefer the idea of double bigger set bc you do have more room an more to play with. I love the more little bits in a game the better.

You could do a mini starter pack for beginners & cost affordability: single folio, 2 sheets of building materials, 2 sheets of props/scenery. Then a full starter pack would be double that: 2 folios - 1 folio with 4 sheets of building pieces, 1 folio with 4 sheets of props/scenery.

If you did a kickstarter I would already have contributed! I think the bigger pack is the best option. It is not as costly as a lot of the other stuff we buy.😊

This might not be feasible, but you know the 3 ring binders that have the clear plastic slot on the front so you can slide a sheet of paper in? What if, instead of printing cobble or woods or whatever on the board itself, you have something like that and provide/sell printed pattern sheets that could be slid in? Bonus you could still dry erase on the plastic bit and the pattern is protected. And if your magnets are strong enough it could still go through the plastic and pattern sheet.

I am so flipping excited about this, I want this so bad! I love the bigger size from the prototype, and if it were me I would definitely do the larger pack first with smaller add-ons to follow. My daughter's school has a d&d club and I think this would be a real game changer for kids being able to play at school and they're free time pack up go home come back tomorrow. keep the good ideas coming You guys rock!
