Hello BOOMers! Some of you talk about how Cody'sLab or "The Thought Emporium " did the magnet implant and it worked. Well I couldn't find Cody's video [found now, read more]. I watched Emporium's video and all it says is how to install it, and how it sticks to metal and potentially can feel electricity. IMHO it is still a pretty useless body mod! So it can attract ferromagnetic stuff, and he doesn't show what current level you can feel with it. I also confirmed you can feel high enough electric current. But it is pretty limited application to stick a foreign object in your body for. If you think it would help you with electric works, IT WON'T! Don't stick magnets in your fingers for SH$%s and giggles!! It can cause bad infections. [edit] Found unlisted @Cody'slab videos thanks to @Dawnflare if you like to watch below. Kind of confirms my experiment, can feel high current or strong magnetic field of transformers. Can't feel wire with low or no current. AND later removed because of infection! Its an old 2014 video, but here it is: kzread.info/dash/bejne/poqKtrWRcZOuhLg.html He also removed a few months later: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2WDk8OAXbqtZNo.html

Yes, it won't help you with electric work, but as a person with two decades worth of body mod experience I wouldn't say that people do it just for "poop and laughs", there are by far more reasons why people would "stick crap in their body" than that. Some people do it because it's the new cool thing, many others do it because it's literally who they are, it's an identity thing just like anything else, just like the reason why you choose to wear a certain style shirt over another. 🤷‍♂️ I've done the magnet glued to the finger tip thing myself when I wrote my masters thesis in interaction design five years ago, focused on body hacking, and I know several people with active magnetic implants. It's a neat thing, a party trick and a bit akin to a new sense (sensing AC electromagnetism isn't exactly something humans can do without modification), but it's not something revolutionary that will change the world. No need to be flippant about it though, to each their own 🙂

I’ve had such an implant. Having the magnet under the skin increases the sensitivity ~10x I would have been able to feel the .5amp ac current if it was a single wire. Still the powers are a bit overhyped and the risk of it breaking and needing removal is why I haven’t replaced it.

I also have such an implant (3 actually) and... yeah, what Cody said. They are pretty neat, but in terms of actual practicality, the most use I get is always having a magnet on me to pick up tiny screws. I could just keep magnets with me on the outside, though. They were once helpful because I got used to how the actuator in my hdd felt when reading/writing and it started to feel... different... a few days before the hdd died. So I had time to backup the hdd before it actually died. That was neat, I guess.

So I've had magnet implants before and even have a whole video about them on my channel (it's the most viewed magnet implant video on this site). You're right that you mostly feel magnetic fields, or especially strong currents. The most obvious time you feel things is near something like a transformer in a microwave. But you can also feel the security checkpoint loop things in front of stores. But the best use case I've heard of was someone working on industrial robots or seriously large electronics. With the implant they were able to feel that the thing was live and not safe to work on before touching it and were able to make sure it was turned off safely first. For those working with very high currents, being able to feel them is quite useful. Also, there's a trade off between size of magnet and what you can feel. A smaller magnet may be slightly weaker, but it's smaller so it's easier for it to be moved as it has less mass. And when it's implanted and not just glued on, the nerves grow around it making it much much more sensitive. So the magnet you used is ironically less sensitive even though it's larger.

Hey, Mehdi! There's a funny bit of trivia related to the prison cooker thingy that you may not know about. Did you know that that's exactly how they cook the bread for Japanese Panko bread crumbs? (the longer, shard-like bread-crumbs) They have huge batches of dough between electrified plates, and the current passing through the bread cooks it. This achieves two things, apparently: one, it can't overcook the bread, because once enough water has evaporated when the bread is cooked, its resistance goes way up and it stops cooking. And two: it cooks bread without developing a crust, letting the panko stay nice and white in color. Also, it supposedly helps develop the large, long crumb structure that lets it crumble into shards instead of dust. From what I remember about it, it was developed during WWII when soldiers in camps didn't have electric stoves, couldn't risk lighting camp fires, but did have access to batteries from vehicles, and plenty of metal. When the soldiers came home, they missed their strange, long-crumb-structure, crustless bread and so bakeries started to do it that way, and still do to this day! So you _can_ cook your food with electricity and be perfectly safe! It just depends on what you're cooking. Bread is apparently just fine!

He survived with no problems, the video was released in 2006 and soon became viral. He gets mocked all the time by this episode. @@djaydeved My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

If you ask me why there is a wire running into the grapes, i don't know, but i think is for the lights or some kinda of chermestry with the grapes. The voltage, current and frequency from the shock if you are interested was 240V 20A 60Hz. And just for curiosity, in Brazil, we have both voltages, 220V that it's nominally 240V and the 110V that it's nominally 127V.

I can attest to the usage of silicon, especially since its electron configuration is a semiconductor, an inbetween a conductor and insulator. Though I wonder if Germanium would work too since that's also another semiconductor and its used in radiation detector and the solar cell technology seems to be the same, both utilizing a PN Junction Diode. Obviously in different ways as Germanium is about promotion of electrons to the conduction band with the best resolution, meaning that the lower that energy the better as then the amount of electron holes pair will be linearly applicable to the energy measurement.

The magnet finger implants are inside of an outer casing that the magnet can move around freely inside of, allowing the finger to feel thee vibration.

I tried placing a small neodymium magnet on my finger (no glue or anything) and held it close to a cable passing less than half an amp. I could just barely feel the vibration! Cool.

Well in Hungary some people used something (cant recall it at the moment what it was), it burned the motor inside and since they couldn't check what was your power usage that year they counted how mutch MW power was unaccounted for in your area, then placed a new one with a fuze (i think), that popped when they tried to mess with it and turned off the electricity so when the electrician was called to fix it they had to pay a fine for messing with the equipment.
