Thank you for the post, I've had a Maglite for 20+ years sitting in the cupboard for use in the garden. I think I might look at some upgrades now.

That’s the point, it’s not past it, it just needs and upgrade to bring it up to par. Wait for part 2 which will look at the larger upgrades.

I used to be a fan of maglites. But that was the 90's. After Clinton gave China mfn, improvements seemed to stop, and quality ebbed. My little go-to 2x AA... bulbs not lasting as long, and increased corrosion problems of the alumonum case. My 5x D cell flamethrower? The krypton bulbs that woked so well just disappeared - not available anymore at any price. I use LED's now. The little plastic case Larry Lights [rebranded at some point] are the perfect glovebox item.

My dad bought a Maglite from America when I was younger and bought it back to the UK, I was fascinated by Maglites then. A few months ago I picked one up at a car boot sale for £3 and I'm looking to upgrade it and my dads. I will follow this video for reference. I was wondering, my Maglite seems to have a painted-grey body, I wondered if that was standard or if a previous owner did that? (They did a pretty good job if they did) I would also like to know that if I stripped it and annodised all the outer-body parts, would the annodising affect the contacts/current at all?

Just follow what the original manufacturer did, they machined off anodising where electrical contact was needed. Maglites were never painted.

I've got a 3 cell torch that I upgraded with an led module summer time ago. I recently found it at the bottom of a drawerand one of the batteries has corroded from the inside out, through the aluminium tube. 😡

Ouch, don’t store long term with the batteries in, I use NIMH cells to Reduce the chance of leakage

Would like to see a comparison on injuries sustained when the wife gets ahold of one in a bad mood.
