Most consistent tell I’ve ever picked up on is when the person folds. 100% of the time, it means the person isn’t confident that they have the best hand.

That movie will always be in my top 5 movies. The only thing is once you know your tell you go out of your way to not show your tell. That's why I love watching poker players that are on TV all the time. I also perfer not to see their cards so I usually watch it without sound and keep that side of the TV covered to see if I can can using tells what they have. To me that's been my best homework and it's really helped me use body language to see who's really the strongest.

Look at the shaking segment again. He shows shaking while holding pocket aces. This is typical for this tell. To quote Mike Caro: "A shaking hand is a force to be reckoned with." Shaking typically means your opponent is holding a monster hand, often the nuts. It's happened to me only once in a live game, and it was when I had the nuts in a big pot. I knew what the tell meant and tried my best to hold my hand against the felt as I pushed chips in to disguise the shaking, but I couldn't stop it. Thankfully my opponent either didn't see it or didn't know what it meant. He called. The shaking occurs because your brain is already aware of the outcome and therefore releases the adrenaline. Imagine you are being chased by a serial killer and you are hiding in a corner. You don't shake while you are hiding. But once he leaves you will begin shaking uncontrollably. While you are unsure, it is much easier to "hold it together." Shaking is NOT weak.

Awesome video! I’ve been playing poker predominately online for the last 15 years. Trying to make a full transition to live has been an adventure for sure. I know how to play the game from a fundamentals perspective, but these little things like posture and how to actually handle things physically, in front of people, where before it was all mouse clicks behind a computer screen definitely changes the game entirely. Thanks again!

Another great one that always works once you find a players zero is blink rate and breath rate. Some people blink/breath faster or slower than others. This will change depending on what's going on. It can be different depending on the person though so you have to figure out their natural rates. Once you watch a hand or two that they aren't in you can know this, then watch them change on the situation. Generally most people blink faster when they bluff, some it's the other way around. Once you figure out that persons specific responses you can practically see their cards.

These are good tips. I rarely play poker but I am probably one of the best around when it comes to showing tells. Actually, in my case, instead of tells they should be called yells. I intend to video myself and see just how blatantly I give myself away. Thanks Rich, this is a great video and I learned a lot.

Loved the video Rich, great stuff I'll try and look out for. However, I feel like sharing this, of all videos, is the worst possible option for me. I'm all for sharing your other videos, but sharing this one is going to undo all the good you just did for me! Perhaps you can make a terrible, fake-information video on poker tells, and I can share that one? haha

I love the shaking hand tell. I see it at all sorts of games. The thing is though, it's important to note that the player THINKS he has a monster hand. That could mean JJ on a AK3 board. JJ technically is not a very strong here, but a bad player might mistakenly still be really excited to see two jacks in his hand, and his hand shakes as a result.

I don't shake because im scared but shake because I'm hungry lol Can't tell you how many times I've been called down because of "shaking" and they even mention it after the hand. I'm sitting there the whole time not noticing one bit and could care less

The one thing that becomes difficult is when people look tense and trying to decipher whether they're tense because they've got a monster, or they're actually scared of turning their cards over. Thanks for the great post.

Wow, really impressive how you can learn so much from someone’s body language and behaviour. I’d like to try these tricks on my friends. However, I have a feeling pros like Daniel Negranu for instance, would know about this stuff, and someone like that would practice showing fake tells.

Those guys are pros for a reason poker mentally is an EXHAUSTING game those guys in the WSOP and stuff play for dayssss for someone at small home games or 1/2 2/3 games those small details aren’t huge but they can help but those pros wear sunglasses for the SMALLEST hints the SMALLEST breath patterns those pros are crazy for how they control their bluffs and nuts

It's funny how many of these I've trained myself to mostly not do. Ie always put my cards in the same place, always know how much is in the pot/my stack, always adopt what I call a power stance (one leg flat on floor, one leg to the side and back, sorta like an athlete ready to launch a sprint). Lately though I've been trying a different seating position cause I'm starting to realise just how badly poker affects my posture...
