People are saying he executed these tricks sloppily and stuff, but I, an average civilian, was completely blown away, even after the "swaps" and stuff were pointed out to me!!! Hahaha

None of the people saying those things actually know what they're talking about, nor can they perform any of the moves they heard about on a youtube tutorial. Basically they just want to ruin the fun.

I can assure you that none of his tricks were sloppy. Dan White is a professional and amazing magician. The effects he executed here are well known to magicians, that's why they're acting all cocky and critical. Truth is, it's a powerful and amazing effect to the average civilian you are and that's what matters. Shitty youtube magicians often forget that magic is for the average civilian not for them.

I am a magician. This is not sloppy at all. He's a little nervous because he's on television, so that's going to affect your fine motor skills a bit. Anybody that says those things is guaranteed not a professional, let alone could they pull this off at anywhere close to that level. He did a fine job with this performance.

Just a simple card force, a poorly executed switch/swap. Of course, the live audience isn't close enough to notice, and the director keeps changing cameras, which helps (whether the director intended to or not), since the view changes on the trick, and the person watching the screen loses focus. He's OK, probably best in small groups/parties/restaurants... Carson would have played along a lot better, since he was a magician as well...

With the matches Jimmy picked a match towards the right and the burnt match was in the middle more to the left. When the “magician” grabs his deck he puts the matches in his pocket with his left hand but gives Jimmy the fake 5 of diamond with his right. With Magicians cards they go from wide to narrow, so he placed 5 of diamonds the opposite way from the rest of the deck, so “magician” already knew what card Jimmy would see.

In order to be a trick, it must actually trick someone. Being sloppy and revealing the core to the trick removes all mystery and absolutely shatters the illusion. Just because we already know it’s a ‘trick’ doesn’t mean the magician should half-ass his performance.

What makes a great magician is the magician's ability not to reveal how they've done a trick. This is what makes magicians that fool Penn & Teller on Fool Us so fantastic, the best magicians often leave us only with theories of how the trick might've been completed, but no definite answer thanks to masterful slight of hand or other highly unique, developed techniques. Dan White doesn't come up to that level in my personal opinion. There is no magic when I watch him, some of his tricks are so over the top like having a card in the sole of the hosts shoe, that all the magic is just sucked right out.

Matches trick is super simple. as he opens the book for the first time, he folds the burned one down and conceals it between his thumb and middle finger. He keeps it concealed as Jimmy picks a match. He removes the match Jimmy picks. As he closes the book to hand it to Jimmy, he bends the burned match back up and into the book. Jimmy squeezes the pack in his hand, making the burned match sit nice and flat in the book. Super easy but the misdirection and sleight of hand were perfect.
