I remember when Airbnb was affordable for the average person for a weekend getaway. This one is 2 nights minimum. 2 nights will cost you $941. Breakdown is 375/night, 116 service fee and 75 cleaning fee. Fun to look at but it's bonkers pricing.

Now THAT is FanTASTic!!! And being in Washington, I am guessing that Pete Nelson got the Permit offices used to the idea. I just picked out a plan and several acres of forest land and now I am wondering if I should give a tree house a shot. Is 70-75 too old to live in a tree house? Well, whatever I do, it's not about me and you guys built a beautiful place!

@@treehousewhidbey - since I am going to want retractable stairs, in case of several bears or the dreaded zombie apocalypse , why not a sling with a counterweight that will stop right at the first platform? Pulll them both (the sling AND the counterweight and the winding lift to pull up the weights back a bit on the platform? Then the stairs can come up and create a fence with upside down steps and I will be fairly secure until something with a reasonable takes a good look. 😁 What fun!!!

I like looking at these things but its always bitter sweet. I remember when some years ago the tiny house trend was marketed as a solution for expensive housing and the sky rocketing prices for houses and land (mind you: I do not live in the US so things are a bit different here but still similar in some instances. Land is more expensive here, rarer to find and laws are more strict for example). Years ago, I was told multiple times that this was the way people with lower income (in my case: due to disability/illness) could own a roof over their head. I was sceptical but felt a sense of "oh maybe this is for me". But thats not really what this trend is about. Its mainly for people who either already own land, have parents who own land, are able to pay rent alongside paying for a house, or just have the money to buy an additional tiny house for airbnb purposes. Literally ALL tiny houses I have ever seen in real life were guest houses, airbnbs or additional space for hobby stuff. All owned by richer people with a big house and land. Of course there are those with lower middle class income who buy tiny houses, but when I look at the cost of those plus STILL paying rent for a piece of land to put them, it isnt so affordable for me anymore or at least doesnt hold any benefits to buying a bigger house, especially in my country (in the US it maybe would be more realistic? Not sure). And this isnt really a complaint? I mean it kinda is, but probably not in the sense you might think. Even though this airbnb is so ridiculously expensive that it made me laugh out loud, because the irony is kinda funny how the people the "tiny house trend" was marketed towards years ago couldnt even stay here for one or two nights (i mean its a tree house so i get the pricing, but still kinda funny). But again, I am not really complaining about this in a "it should be different" way. Because I dont think this trend was ever meant to be different, the marketing just changed to something more honest and that's actually a good thing. Tiny spaces for poorer people without rich family or friends already existed before and they are called one room rentable flats and trailers. Cynicism aside, I still enjoy watching these videos because I can apply many of the ideas for small space living to my tiny rented living space in the city. I also dont think its entirely impossible for people like me to get there someday, its just not made for people like me by design. But dwelling on that doesnt change that, so I try to find my own way and my own solution. Going forward step by step, working towards it and seeing where it takes me. And if it doesnt work out, I at least have my small flat optimized with tiny house ideas lol

Over 50,000 folks live on Whidbey Island there's a major Naval Air Station on the North end in the largest town and 2 other significant townships 2 major civilian Hospitals plus a Naval hospital I assume. There's even a bus line. It's far from isolated. Lots of restaurants wineries, coffee shops, gas stations, grocery stores a bunch of rich people and their rich homes sprinkled throughout the Island especially on the south side.
